After a Persian translation of Will Cuppy's The Decline and Fall of Practically Everybody (translated by Najaf Daryabandari) was published, Cuppy's being unknown in Iran and the good style of Persian prose led to several speculations that the book, which was translated to Persian under the title of Čenin konand bozorgān (چنین کنند بزرگان, Thus Act the Great), was not a translation, but an original book by Daryabandari and possibly a collaborator, which was speculated to be Ahmad Shamlou. It was guessed that this has been done in order to bypass the Pahlavi era censor. Although Daryabandari denied this several times, also after the Iranian revolution, the issue was not publicly settled until the satire magazine Golagha ran an article about their "discovery" of Cuppy, which proved Daryabandari right.
اما قضیه یه چیز دیگه است. تویسنده باید پشت مترجم مخفی باشه (مثل چنین کنند بزرگان و شعرهای بازگفته شده لورکا از زبان شاملو) با به عکس (مثل عبداله کوثری، مهدی سحابی، و فرهاد غبرایی، احمد میرعلایی، کریم امامی که رفتن و حیف شد). راستش من هر دو رو دوست دارم. نکته اینه که این ها بدون شک استادان زبان فارسی ان. اما کدومشون لذت زبان مبدا رو به زبان مقصد می رسونه؟

I've read both the original book by Cuppy, and Daryabandari's translation. I have to say, the Persian version is a loose translation of Cuppy's work, and is much more hilarious! Daryabandari has removed (rather boring) parts of the book, and added some jokes in the translation.
