Help!! Please list series where the books start at the place where the last book stopped.

Wouldn't it be better to know so you can read all the books close together?

Patricia Briggs's Mercedes Thompson series may be one. I just can't remember the details of the books before Bone Crossed to say for sure.

Joanne, I'm not sure I understand your question? Pretty much all series start at the place where the last book stopped, especially UF series like Mercy Thompson. Usually though, there is a little bit of time between them--the Sookie Stackhouses are usually a couple weeks apart, the Harry Dresdens are a month or two apart between books. Are you talking about books with a cliffhanger? Where the next book picks up exactly where the last one left off?

Now that I'm typing this, I think that's what you meant, books with a cliffhanger. If I remember correctly (which I usually don't...) there is only the 1 Mercy book with a cliffhanger, but it wasn't an action cliffhanger, it was a romantic one--I don't want to give away any spoilers. :) But I don't remember which 2 books that was, I just remember the scene did start back up in the 1st chapter of the next book.

Another series known for the cliffhangers is Karen Marie Moning's Fever series--those are doozies. And the most recent Harry Dresden, Changes supposedly ends with a cliffhanger, but I haven't made it that far. I'm on book 10 and Changes is book 12--but that's the only cliffhanger so far in a 12 book series--they're pretty rare.

Can anyone else think of any series with cliffhangers? And Joanne, if that is what you meant, you might want to change the title of the thread to use the word "cliffhangers" and you should get some more responses. :)

Thanks! I did change the title. But even more than cliffhanger endings, I am talking about books where the next book feels like the next chapter.

Morganville Vampires was the same, even though a book ends, the next book is like the next chapter. You have to remember everything that came before for it to make sense.

Other books tend to review a bit. Ijust started reading the 4th Harry Dresden book after not reading that series for a year and it was easy to pick up since there was some review.

Maybe my problem is with the books I can't put down and read in one sitting so I don't have any time for the story to sit in my brain. Iron Kissed was like that and the story just didn't stick for me. A reread is in my future before I read Bone Crossed.

I haven't read Morganville Vamps yet, but you're right, I only like that when I'm reading a series straight through. KMM's Fever books are like that--I read the first 4 back to back, so the cliffhanger, the next book is the next chapter thing obviously was fine with me, but when I got to the end of the 4th book, I wanted to throw it across the room--it killed me to have to wait for months to find out what happens. :)

And reviews/recaps in the next book in a series--I'm fickle about those. I appreciate them when it's been months since I've read the last book, but when I'm reading back to back, I'm all like "come on, come on, get on with it, I already know all this!" Lol.

There aren't that many I know of because I avoid them, LOL.

I think those are all the cliffhanger series I know.

The House of Night Series is like this too. Every single book has a cliffhanger. I got to the end of book 6, and I was desperate for 7. After the months of waiting, I bought it when it came out and I haven't read more than a chapter.

I hate the constant cliffhangers. Better to read them back to back, I think, if you're interested.

Thank you for mentioning The Blood Lily Chronicles, I was going to look into that series soon since I love Julie Kenner. Another series to wait until it is complete.

As much as I love the Parasol Protectorate series by Gail Carriger (and simply adored Heartless). . . I would warn people that there is a cliffhanger between books #2 and #3.

Rachel Caine's Outcast Season. The cliffhanger at the end of the first book is why I'm waiting until the last book comes out next February to read any further. The first one was an awesome read but it literally stops in the middle of the action!

She seems to do that alot! Happened some in Weather Warden, killer cliffhanger at the end of book 1 of Morganville Vampires...and now, Outcast Season. At least, I've got a lot of Morganville to read and not have to wait a year to find out what happens next!

Rachel Caine is the Cliffhanger Mistress - the Weather Warden series had cliffhangers in all the books. I started Morganville and when book #1 had cliffhanger, I dropped the series. I have enough series on my table without adding another cliffhanger one.

I've started it...barely. The library has almost all of them, except #2! Eek. I'm buying it...just have to click over to the bookstore...unless the library responds to my request first...fingers crossed!

Let me know how it is, Judithe! I might read the series then cos I remember it had a diff portrayal of vampires (will they NEVER die?).

I liked the first one, and they seem to be fairly "typical" old-fashioned vamps...just more openly in charge than in most modern vamp stories. I do like Caine's stories...just have to be sure to have the next one at hand before getting started!

Regarding Morganville, #2 and #6-11 don't have cliffhangers. I bought the first 6 together so they didn't bother me at all. It's one of the few YA series I love.

Did you like them straight away or did it take a few books? I'm up to #3 and I like them but I think I prefer her WW series at the moment (even though I'm not that far through either of them) :)

I read books 1-6 one after another in 2 days. I'm not sure when I "loved" them, I just couldn't stop reading. I've only read 1 WW book though I have a couple more from that series here.

Ah right. I think I've got the books up to #7 or maybe more so I might try reading them altogether like you did. Tbh, it would probs be good anyway since all my fave series are ones that I've read one after the other.

Good to hear - I've got up to 11 waiting to be read starting today. I'm hoping to get through them quite quickly so I get my 2012 challenge off to a good start.

LOL! Yep! I was all ٩(͡๏̯͡๏)۶ ?!?! At the end of #3. Good Golly, but she dropped a helluva bomb and I really wish I'd known in advance and had #4 on-hand.

The Kara Gillian series #4 Sins of the Demon ends in a huge cliffhanger. Next book is due out hopefully in January 2013.

The Kingkiller Chronicles ends with a cliffhanger.
And according to the information here on goodreads the third book is due out in may 2025....hopefully that's a typo.

Yeah, I know. I think that is because he said it would probably take him a year to get book two finished and then it were four. So I guess he doesn't want to make any promises. The thing is that he had all three books finished before he even found a publisher so I wonder how long it can really take him to edit the book. Surely not 15 years^^

Well it kind of make me glad I still have not read them yet. This kind of waiting would kill me...better not know what I'm missing I guess.

No, don't let that stop you from reading it^^ I really don't think the third book will only be released in 2025. I mean, I am no author so I don't know how it works but I really cannot imagine that it would take someone over 15 years to edit a book:) I think it's a typo and 2015 is more likely

If Martin can do it in less than 15, so can Rothfuss :)

I'll read it eventually, but it always gets pushed down the reading list for some reason.

LOL Jennifer! Those were hard endings. Thankfully, I had #1-2 on-hand before I started, so I only had the wait between 2-3.

Diana Rowland is terrible with doing this, especially that last book!

Karen Chance's Cassie Palmer books usually end with cliffhangers. The last few were really aggravating!

Agreed, Elaine - those do tend to leave us hangin'.

Cliffies or even just unfinished plot is the main reason I tend to avoid most series', of any genre, that I'm interested in until they are finished. There are exceptions, but not many.

Yes, the cliffie between books 2 & 3 in Parasol Protectorate!!! I always warn mbrs when I see they are about to read #2. That comes up in Bingo at least once a game.
