1. Swords from the Desert by Harold Lamb by Harold Lamb Harold Lamb
Finish date: January 11, 20111.
Rating: A
Collection of historical fiction adventure stories with Arab protagonists or main characters. Lamb wrote great stories back in the Pulp era. His stories are fairly free of the stereotypes that many of his era fell into and his love of the historical periods he wrote about comes through in these tales.

Finish Date: January 31, 20011
Rating: A +
Historical novel set in the decades preceding the year 1000 C.E. about a Viking adventurer named Orm. A brief description like that doesn't even begin to describe this wonderful book, which is one of my all time favorite works in any genre. I recommend to just about everyone I meet, certainly the folks in this group who love history need to check it out I think.

Finish Date: February 27, 2011
Rating: A
Second novel starring L.A. detective Philip Marlowe. Marlowe gets involved with an ex con and a beautiful woman who's possibly more deadly than she seems. One of my all time favorite works by Chandler.

4. Medicus (Gaius Petreius Ruso, #1) by Ruth Downie by Ruth Downie Ruth Downie
Finish Date: March 10, 2011
Rating: B +
First in a series of historical mysteries set in Roman Britain during the time of the Emperor Hadrian, starring a Roman centurion medic. Very enjoyable, looking forward to the rest of the series.
