Never mind! I already ordered two.

Loaned a kid and he loved it. Then I said if he read and wrote a 300 word essay on it, I would buy him 3 fantasy books. He loved it and ended up writing about 600 words. He also read it pretty fast.

So, now I need three fantasy books. Epic, fun, strong male characters? Not Harry Potter, he's read that. Doesn't have to be YA, just awesome.

So can you help me please? I need three books. Sheesh, next time I'll think before I throw out things like that. I haven't even bought myself three new books :(

the rangers apprentice series is pretty good! i liked it a lot. Another one that is a three book series is Sabriel, Liriel and Abhorson by Garth Nix. The first book has a female main character and male supporting and then the next 2 books switch off from 2 viewpoints, one female and one male. I will lwt you know if i think of any more :)

My favorite Epic Fantasy series is Robert Jordan, Wheel of Time series. The first is Eye of the world.



I also loved Terry Goodkind's Swoard of Truth series for the first 6 books, or so... that starts with Wizard's First Rule.



I also know that George R.R. Martons series that starts with A Game of Thrones is popular, though I havne't read it.

Ottilie, the Outsiders is good! I forgot about that one. Wait, what's it about? Is there a lesson learned in the end? I can't remember.

Emmy, I thought about Sabriel. Do you think boys would like it though? I was considering it because it's fantasy and everyone seems to like it, though I couldn't finish it.

The knife is good Peep. Stop being a baby! Gone would be great for a teen boy - that is your target audience...correct???

Yes, he is a teen. The boys are in placement.

Then Gone would be good. It is clean for the most part and it is about a group of teens who live without adults - every kids fanatsy.

The Dark is Rising series starting with Over Sea, Under Stone by Susan Cooper

The Lord of the Isle series starting with Lord of the Isles by David Drake

The Queen's Thief series by Megan Whalen Turner (how could you forget that one?)

The Heir Chronicles starting with The Warrior Heir

The Word and Void series starting with Running with the Demon by Terry Brooks, and really anything by Brooks is epic fantasy that will appeal to boys of all ages

The Bridei Chronicles starting with The Dark Mirror by Juliet Marillier

Age of Fire series starting with Dragon Champion by E.E. Knight

Eragon

The Farseer Trilogy starting with Assassin's Apprentice by Robin Hobb

Thanks Becca! I will keep all the books in mind. Apparently the kid acted up, so I only able to order him two. Out of the list he picked Wizards First Rule and a Game of Thrones. I wanted to get more but hubby said no way.

I'll use the list as a stand by because the kid likes to read.

if he likes to read i would say libraries may be your new best friend.

Wizard's First Rule is a great choice for a teen boy. Richard is a very strong character.

I read it in 7th grade but I think it was bout street boys and someone dies and the boys go into hiding and their lives. It was awsome. If the reader enjoys it there is a movie which stuck to the book

The movie was excellent, but it didnt' compare to the book.

Outsiders is DEFINITELY a classic, but Heidi's right, it's not a Fantasy.

I never actually read Lord of the Flies, though I've heard really good things about it. From what people say Gone is very similar to LotF, add in some mutations.

Gone is just like LOTF except for the mutations plus there are girls in Gone. You should read LOTF Wendy. It freaked me out for days!

You said you hadn't read Lies yet, right? Suffice to say, the eating of human's even for survival really really grosses me out. I don't even like to watch the Ethan Hawke movie Alive.

Nope I haven't. I read Gone and Hunger. By your last statement I think I am glad I skipped Lies! p.s. I feel your pain, I could barely even deal with talk of the Donner Party in "America: The Story of Us" on The History Channel!

I found Lord of the Flies extremely disturbing when I read it back in eigth grade (i think), and don't think I want to read something like it again even as an adult.

How about - great male characters. More horror than fantasy I guess, though.

See I like that sometimes cause I have trouble visionalizing some of it. With DaVinci code it was good to see what I read for a few parts, I'm more visual

Don't forget the Valdemar books by Mercedes Lackey or the Dragon Bones books by Patricia Briggs. Or the dragon series by Jane Yolen starting with Dragons Blood, or The White Dragon by Anne McCaffrey.
