Desperado (lethallovely) | 1360 comments Thanks, Sandra! =) Sorry, I didn't see your comment. Apparently, we posted at the same time.

Josie, I'm relieved to know the protagonist in Hex Hall isn't boy crazy. It's on my TBR but for some reason, I keep putting off reading it.

Vivian, I agree...somewhat. The book could've used a better editor & been cut in half, but I don't think it would've improved Glimmerglass. Okay, maybe it would've. Shorter is always better when reading novels this painful.

Hope you have a wonderful holiday in the sand and sun, Kat! Relax & enjoy!

If/when you read [book:Kiss at Your Own Risk|8062210], I'd love to hear what you think of it. I'm anxious to read that one.

Steph (angel4492) | 32515 comments @Lethal, I have Glimmerglass set aside for one of my challenges. Looks like I'll be hunting for another fae book. I'm not a fan already, so I definitely don't wanna read on that might turn me off them any more. Hope you enjoy Pack Challenge, I recently read it and really liked it.

@Inga, my vote is for Desire Unchained. I miss that series. Hope enjoy whichever you choose to read.

I'm currently reading Dark Embers (Dragon's Heat, #1) by Tessa Adams and lovin' it. Hope to finish it tonight.

message 104: by Desperado (new)

Desperado (lethallovely) | 1360 comments @ Steph: Thank you. I'm enjoying PC for the most part. It's taking me awhile to get used to the vulgarity & potty humor.

Glad to know you're lovin' Dark Embers. I want to read it so bad but I've heard so many mixed opinions about it. Not to mention, I am far from thrilled at the price of this sucker. Maybe they'll release it in mmpb, like they plan on doing with Blood Song. *crosses fingers*

message 105: by Steph, Serious series addict (new)

Steph (angel4492) | 32515 comments @Inga, yay! Hope it doesn't let ya down. I just loved that series.

@Lethal, PC does get wild, but that's part of what I enjoyed. Dark Embers had some hot, hot scenes. It's classified as an erotic PNR, good story too though. I've got to write about 15 reviews, but will post more about that one here eventually.

message 106: by CyberAlmu (new)

CyberAlmu | 302 comments 2 stars for Dead Until Dark, not sure about going on with the series.

I've just started Moon Called, last book in my cover hunt challenge.

BTW, I'm really happy to have joined, I've learned a lot of new series I'd never heard of. It's a bit difficult to get this type of books here in Spain, so most of them I just didn't know about. But as I say, thanks to you I'm getting into more and more series which are really wonderful :)

message 107: by Steph, Serious series addict (new)

Steph (angel4492) | 32515 comments Sorry you didn't care for Sookie, but glad you're enjoying Mercy.

So glad you're finding some good series. Yay! That makes me :D

Glad you're liking PC too Lethal, and I so agree with you on the price of Dark Embers. That's why I keep puttin it off. Even on BD it costs big time.

Literary Ames (amyorames) | 1854 comments Sleeping With the Wolf (After the Crash, 1) by Maddy Barone

I really enjoyed this. It was more than just a standard PNR. It was post-apocalyptic and set in the future so there was proper world-building and everything. LOL!

@Sandra, this is your sort of thing so I will be patiently waiting for you to read this. I want to know what you think. But you want to read it now right? *hypnotic gaze*

I read Hex Hall and Glimmerglass around the same time and Hex Hall was light years better, IMHO. I'm excited about the next Hex Hall book, which comes out in a couple months, I think. Plus, I put it into a challenge thinking it was already out and am too lazy to change it :)

I've already got it on the tbr with recommended by Ames. LOL. And it does sound exactly like what I enjoy, as was your review too. *oh no, getting dizzy, must be that hynoptic gaze*

message 114: by Literary Ames (new)

Literary Ames (amyorames) | 1854 comments @Sandra, LOL! Yay! And thanks, about the review. The author "liked" it as well. It always surprises me when that happens.

message 115: by Sandra, Kindle Operator Licence Required (new)

Shelleyrae at Book'd Out | 346 comments I just finished an ARC of Pack of Lies (Book #2 in the Paranormal Investigation Scene series) I have a bunch of non PNR/UF books I have to tackle but the next one should be an ARC of American Vampire

Pack of Lies (Paranormal Scene Investigations, #2) by Laura Anne Gilman American Vampire by Jennifer Armintrout

message 119: by Steph, Serious series addict (new)

Steph (angel4492) | 32515 comments @Ames, that sounds like a good one. I'll hunt for it myself. :)

I finished Dark Embers (Dragon's Heat, #1) by Tessa Adams and loved it. I am trying to start My Soul to Steal (Soul Screamers, #4) by Rachel Vincent , but keep getting sidetracked by life. LOL!

message 120: by Josie (new)

Josie | 1967 comments @Vivian: Oooh, I'm excited about Demonglass (Hex Hall, #2) by Rachel Hawkins too. I thought Hex Hall was excellent. Great plot, not too long and a protagonist that was actually interesting. For me this is what a YA book should be like!

Since then I've read Dark Lover (Black Dagger Brotherhood, #1) by J.R. Ward . Even though I'm not a huge PNR fan and still giggle at the brother's names, I couldn't stop reading this. It was a complete (guilty) addiction and I loved it. So, yeah, surprised myself anyway. Bring on the rest of the bunch ;)

Sandra | 25806 comments Fantastic news Ames!!!!

Just finished Burning Up (Includes The Iron Seas, Prequel; Children of the Sea, #3.5; Psy/Changeling #8.5) by Angela Knight and I agree Judithe, this is one of the best anthologies I've read for a while.

message 123: by Daffodil (new)

Daffodil (daffodil--ripcranberry) | 2098 comments Oh good, I'm glad to hear that. I'm about ready to give up on the mystery I'm reading (Delicious and Suspicious, Delicious and Suspicious (Memphis Barbeque Mystery, #1) by Riley Adams ) and start on Burning Up (Includes The Iron Seas, Prequel; Children of the Sea, #3.5; Psy/Changeling #8.5) by Angela Knight .

I'm not sure what it is, but I just can't quite connect with the characters in D&S. I'll probably set it aside and come back to it later.

message 124: by Regina (new)

Regina (reginar) | 2883 comments I agree with Steph, go wit Slave to Sensation. But I haven't read the others.

I am reading: Atonement by Ian McEwan Faefever (Fever, #3) by Karen Marie Moning

message 125: by Vivian (new)

Vivian (_vivian) | 1934 comments 4 stars to Undead and Unwed (Undead, #1) by MaryJanice Davidson
3 stars to Beyond the Highland Mist (Highlander, #1) by Karen Marie Moning and Passion, Betrayal And Killer Highlights (Sophie Katz, Book 2) by Kyra Davis

Now enough with the chick lit romance stuff, currently and upcoming:
Web of Lies (Elemental Assassin, #2) by Jennifer Estep , and yes, still trekking through Mistborn The Final Empire (Mistborn, #1) by Brandon Sanderson (I'm afraid to finish it and be disappointed), Catching Fire (The Hunger Games, #2) by Suzanne Collins , Once Bitten, Twice Shy (Jaz Parks, #1) by Jennifer Rardin

message 126: by Literary Ames (new)

Literary Ames (amyorames) | 1854 comments NetGalley gave me Pale Demon (Rachel Morgan/The Hollows, #9) by Kim Harrison . I'm gonna read it tomorrow. If they gave it to me in Kindle format, I would've read through the night but alas, I have to read it on my laptop.

message 127: by Sandra, Kindle Operator Licence Required (new)

Sandra | 25806 comments Just finished Coyote's Mate (Breeds, #18) by Lora Leigh 5 stars, it made me cry, in a good way. LOL.

Just about to start Stormwalker (Stormwalker, #1) by Allyson James

BOOOO! They rej'd my request. Second time now and I'm gettin' bummed. Really wanted that one. I just know if I had a blog they'd loan it to me to review. Oh well. :P***

Enjoy it for the both of us, Ames! Interested to hear what ya think of it.

I'm trying to start Hex Appeal (Jazz Tremaine, #2) by Linda Wisdom , but once again life is gettin' in the way.

message 129: by Sandra, Kindle Operator Licence Required (new)

Sandra | 25806 comments Well, I was gonna start Stormwalker (Stormwalker, #1) by Allyson James but in a fit of insanity I picked up Dark Beginnings (Includes Lords of the Underworld, #0.5 & #3.5 & #4.5) by Gena Showalter to have a look and started reading. LOL.

I don't know what to start on: Blood Bound, Succubus Dreams, Beautiful Darkness or The Hunger Games

Blood Bound is great, but so is Hunger Games, that's a tough choice...

Just read Some Girls Bite (Chicagoland Vampires, #1) by Chloe Neill and if all the books are like this, may become one of my fav series, loved it!

message 134: by Steph, Serious series addict (new)

Steph (angel4492) | 32515 comments I loved that one too, Vivian. Didn't like #2 quite as much, but still enjoyed it. Started audiobook version of #3 today and not happy with the narrator. May switch to PB v.

Glad you enjoyed it too! It's a new favorite for a bunch of us. :)

message 135: by CyberAlmu (new)

CyberAlmu | 302 comments Thanks for the recs, I already finished Blood Bound, it was awesome. I'm so in love with Adam...

I'll read The Hunger Games next and ask for more wise advise when I'm done :)

message 136: by Desperado (new)

Desperado (lethallovely) | 1360 comments I is-a reading Mistwood (Mistwood, #1) by Leah Cypess & Branded As Trouble (Rough Riders, #6) by Lorelei James .

Mistwood because it fits into 2 challenges this month & because I enjoy tweenage angst upon occasion...as long as it's not "I will like totally DIE if he doesn't kiss me. I will slit my wrists & he will drown in my bloody tears" tween angst. I'm too much of a bitch to sympathize with that kind of pain.

Branded As Trouble because I need dirty cowboy smut to balance out the tweenage angst. Plus Colt? Utterly hot. I would rape him if he came to my town.

message 137: by Steph, Serious series addict (new)

Steph (angel4492) | 32515 comments LMAO!! Look forward to hearing how heavy on the angst Mistwood is, I'd like to eventually check it out if it's not too bad. And, gotta love the hot smut. Certainly helps restore the proper balance. Good choices! :)

message 139: by Literary Ames (new)

Literary Ames (amyorames) | 1854 comments @Steph, I can't believe they rejected your request for Pale Demon! I wonder what their acceptance criteria is. I don't have a blog just a GR account. Weird. Anyway, I finished it and now I want Trent and Rachel to be together but Harrison has stated that they won't become an item. I'm incredibly disappointed :(

message 140: by Steph, Serious series addict (new)

Steph (angel4492) | 32515 comments I don't know either. I've read & reviewed everything they've given me. :( Oh well. I've had two rejects in a row.

Glad you liked it. Yeah, I heard that too. :P to that!

message 141: by Literary Ames (new)

Literary Ames (amyorames) | 1854 comments I had a couple of rejects as well. One of them was Angelfire. I can't remember what the other was. I think once you've read and reviewed for a specific publisher they get added to the "My Community" section, I think that means they'll accept a request from you in future. It's just getting them to accept in the first place.

Awesomevegan (AKA JenReads) (awesomevegan) | 468 comments If you do book reviews on youtube can you get accepted for NetGalley? I know some youtube reviewers get advanced readers copies in the mail.

message 143: by Steph, Serious series addict (new)

Steph (angel4492) | 32515 comments Angelfire was one of my rejects too. Huh, interesting. I'll keep tryin' for others. Maybe they'll allow me into the cool kids club soon. LOL!

I'm going to start my Bingo 'wishlist' shelf read Afterlife (The Resurrection Chronicles, #1) by Merrie Destefano soon.

I haven't heard of YouTube reviews, but I would imagine any public reviews would be acceptable. It's worth a shot, I'd say.

I'm currently reading Comfort Food, which is really different, but good. It definitely managed to capture my attention. Then I've also started The Hunger Games, which has been really hard to get into so far. I'm hanging in there though!

message 147: by Wan (new)

Wan (wanwaddell) | 612 comments I'm currently reading Poison Study (Study, #1) by Maria V. Snyder and found that it reads like the Hunger Games, especially the main character. I'm enjoying it though.

Awesomevegan (AKA JenReads) (awesomevegan) | 468 comments I signed up for NetGalley. I am going to try posting YouTube reviews and linking them on my blog and see if that works. I requested 4 books. We will see!

message 150: by Vivian (new)

Vivian (_vivian) | 1934 comments Rebecca - I was gonna say opposite of you, but wrong Comfort Food, oops. But HG, hope it gets better for you!

Wan - I think you'll find Poison Study pretty popular here, I read it because this group was RAVING about it. Have the spin-off, Storm Glass, from the library so hope I get to it soon :)

Steph - new 'bingo' shelf?? I'm 'bout as excited as a kid on christmas! woohoo, time to choose a new book!
