As promised it's now time for people to start making suggestions for the Fall Challenge. You can suggest any reading related activity that you can think of and give it a point value (5, 10, 15, or 25). I'll be taking suggestions the entire month of August then I'll post the game on September 1st and we can start playing. If you didn't participate in the Summer challenge I posted you can still participate in this challenge. I look forward to seeing some interesting ideas.

5 points - reading while walking

10 points - read a YA novel

Those were two that I thought would be good additions. I personally liked the ones that were on the summer reading challenge.

Since fall is when everyone goes back to school, how about re-read a book you had to read in HS or Jr. High.

Tisha -- I like your suggestion. It would be incentive for me to take Great Expectations down off of my TBR shelf and finally read it.

I saw these on another challenge and thought we could adopt them and give them point values:

What's in a Name?

Name - a person's/character's name in the title

Location - specific location in the title

Weather - something involving weather in the title

Color - specific color in the title

Plant - a plant, flower, tree, etc. in the title (great for the foliage of fall)

Animal - a type of animal in the title

10 points - read a zombie novel
10 points - read a vampire novel
15 points - read a novel that takes place in a foreign country
15 - read a book with a Halloween theme
15 - read a biography or memoir about a famous painter
15 - read a book by a South American writer
15 - read a collection of ghost stories
25 points - call in sick at work and spend the day reading

I love all the suggestions!

How about reading a book with any of the fall months on it, like In November or Sweet November.

5 - read a book on a plane
5 - read a book with a cat/dog/rabbit in your lap
5 - stay up reading well past your bedtime (too easy?)
10 - buy/gift a great book to a friend that might not otherwise have picked it up

I don't know if any of those are good... ?

I like Stacie's 10 points! I'd be the queen of the challenge! And I would have more to discuss with others...though I'm beginning to find people are actually listening to my recommedation and reading The Gemma Doyle Trilogy. And LIKING it!

These sound so fun! We've been talking about graphic novels lately. How about:
15 - read a graphic novel

With the upcoming elections:
25 - read a book about/by one of the candidates

I can't wait to begin another round!

Or, for fewer points, read a book about U.S. History.

Charity, in order to get me to read ,willingly, a US History book... it would have to be worth double or triple points... not less... haa haa

I said "about"....very loose term. :-)

I am planning to read Howard Zinn's book this fall.

10 - listen to an audiobook
10 - read a bestseller from the 1960's
15 - read a novel by a gay or lesbian author
15 - read a historical novel that takes place during the Civil War

I'm already visualizing which books I would read for these various categories! Can't think of any to add though. :)

10 - It's football season! Read a book having to do
with football
10 - Read a book that won the Pulitzer Prize for
fiction
15 - Read a book with "October" in the title
15 - Read a book with "November" in the title
15 - Read a book with "December" in the title

Great Ideas! Some are impossible, but like Macy I'm already thinking of which books to hold off on until the fall to include in the challenge!

Here's a couple more ideas...keep them coming...even if we don't use them this go around we can use them for the winter challenge.

I may have to change the point levels on some of these because they are probably worth more.

*Read a book written by a Good-Reads Author
*Read a non-fiction book
*Read a novel written in the 19th century
*Read a fall related cookbook and make a recipe
*Read a book with a one word title

It's ok to pick activities that you know will help clear books off your tbr pile.

How about....

- Read a book over X number of pages (500 maybe?)

- Read a book and then watch the movie adaptation

(I REALLY love the 'one-word title' idea!)

LOL Donna! Two of my favorite things together at long last! If we could add drinking, cheese and live music into the mix I would probably die of sheer pleasure.

ok, ive posted this on the other thread, but can someone please tell me how to read while having sex? Ive done the whole watch tv thing (hee hee) but something tells me sex and reading will be quite tramatic for the book!

yeah, i can't argue with that. Yet the thought of it is mighty intriguing.

Well I can drink and read and probably drink and have sex so I am sure Iwill try all three out at the same time LOL

When does the Fall Reading challenge start. I might try to get in on that, since I came in late for the summer challenge.

It won't start until September 1st that's when I'll post the official list of tasks...I'm still taking recommendations for tasks until then though.

I'm new at this but I have to say I love all of Nancy's suggestions!! How about reading a book which takes place in the fall?

read next to a fire (in a fireplace or campfire or whatever)
read a science book
read a classic you've always been afraid of
read a book and then cook a meal of the food in (or inspired by) that book

Glad you liked my suggestions. I'm trying to come up with ways to go through my huge TBR pile. :)

All of these ideas are great and I love being surrounded by such innovative and creative people.

I think reading while having sex should be worth more than 25 points if you are willing to let us know HOW you did it.

Talking about multi-tasking with sex reminds me of George Costanza (who of course wouldn't consider adding a book to the mix).

Val - Well, maybe during the "Summer of George"...ha ha.

I gave it 25 because that was the MAX but trust me if I find a way to doing without offending anyone I will tell you and that should make it worh more points!

Donna I will have to pass on your suggestion I think the book would win! I know the book would win!

I think the act of doing it wouldn't be that difficult. What would be difficult is not offending your partner. However, my husband is so supportive of my uber-competitiveness that he would deal with it if I said, "but I get 25 points."

I think most men wouldn't care so long as they are getting it j/k.

*Read a book that has the word school in the title

*(stealing this from the summer challenge) Read a book by an author you've never read before

I am single as of January this year but my x-husband was rather drab!

Love the read while having sex comments-too funny. It seems like certain positions would be more conducive to this than others. Also if you were reading something sexy out loud it might actually spice things up!

A few more ideas (not sex related-sorry)

Read a book about music or a musician

Read a book about witches (for Halloween)

I have got quite a few points already I called in to read the other day!lol but i think 25 points for reading during sex is a little low like 25,000,000 if you try your either gonna be single or have one hell of a understanding/adventurous mate!

10 points - read a memoir about drug or alcohol addiction

10 points - read a post-apocalyptic story

10 points - School is back in session - read a banned book!
