Cheryl | 547 comments Sometimes it is difficult to determine whether a book is M/T or not. I may move some things around. For example: Jim Butcher's Dresden Files is cataloged in Fantasy, but they are mystery and/or thriller as well.

TOPS:
THE 19TH WIFE - David Ebershoff
STILL ALICE - Lisa Genova
THE HELP - Kathryn Stockett

Ann (annrumsey) | 16677 comments Sherry: Every Last One will be on my top list this year too. It was a haunting book. I was absolutely enthralled with The Story Sisters. I gave DD a copy and she read it in one sitting. It took me longer because I listened to the audio read by Nancy Travis. I can still hear her voice and I read it in 2009. Very powerful, it made my top list last year. I have several others from your list on my wish list too!

Ann (annrumsey) | 16677 comments Melodie: I loved these too! I am following up with the second books in 2011, so I picked up Beautiful Darkness at the library today and hope to get to it soon as well as Linger which is in one of my tbr piles! I picked up Late, Late at Night too, but DD took it home with her. After I heard that Rick Springfield reads the book himself, I got the audio too. ;)

message 29: by Donnajo (new)

Donnajo | 4281 comments I remember when they made that movie. Part of it was done at the airport my me. That is the one that the plane flies into the house right? I was living in FL at the time at work and the family all went to see them filming that part of the movie. They had the house up for along time and I saw that. All it was, was a big cardboard picture of a house. I forgot what other parts of the movie they did here but it was a few.

Melodie (melodieco) | 3679 comments Barry wrote: "Hotel New Hampshire was no Garp, but it was pretty good anyway."

I've never read anything by Irving, but for some reason DH read GARP. I can't remember why, but I remember him saying how much better it was than the movie. I don't think I've ever seen the movie either.

message 31: by BarryP (new)

BarryP (barrypz) | 3458 comments Garp, the movie, was a pretty good effort. Garp the book I read while at sea when I was in submarines. We were on a 3 month patrol and had one copy of the book for 150 people. Every 6 hours you had to hand off the book to somebody else. The only thing near as popular was Winds of War.

message 32: by Ann (new)

Ann (annrumsey) | 16677 comments Barry:
Now that is a shared book memory hard to top!

Loved Lonesome Dove. Later I bought the dvd. It's one of my all time favorites.
BTW, McMurtry lives in Archer City, Texas. Many years ago he bought most of the buildings in the town square and opened used book stores. I got a chance to see him one time there. He does not do autographs, he doesn't like to be disturbed.
