Okay, so here's a list of what we have come up with that needs to be done.

We need to find out:

1) How and from where to hire security/people to direct folks with parking

2) A place for the convention. Location, and building

3) Where we can find medals and other such things for awards

4) A date! We need to know when we should have it.

5) More things that can draw people to the convention. Something other then awards, speakers, publishing companies, authors, and maybe a dance. The more the better!

6) Find publishing companies and authors that are willing to come.

7) Any publishing companies willing to publish books as a sort of reward. They'd be getting the best of those unpublished so I don't think we'll have too much problems getting them to come.

8) And we need to find some people who are willing to look at different books and act as judges. That part would be done before the convention.

9) The costs for:
**the place
**any food(if wanted/needed). If there will be a celebration party we'll probably need caterers. Otherwise local businesses could fill in any other needs.
**security and staff
**medals, rewards, etc
**any advertising we want/need to inform people about the convention.

10) Find a way to get the money for all this!

If anything else is needed, we can add it to the list.

I don't know about this, but how are people going to find friends and certain groups that they are in?

Dunno. We'd work that out later. Maybe the larger groups that wish to can rent their own meeting room off the main convention area and they can all meet at a certain time. It would be something that would have to be worked out later. But if we had details of the building, time, and place, people can arrange to meet at certain places and times. It doesn't even have to be at the convention. You could even tell all your group members or friends over GR to meet at a certain restaurant at a certain time as long as you know they are going to be at the convention. There's just sooooo many options but that is a really simple thing to solve, and should be dealt with last.

And....er, Awesome(is that what I should call you?), I was bored for a while yesterday and came up with some things for which we can have awards for. It can be something to work up to all of them, but I still think if we are to pull this all off we have to do it with a bang! Should I message them to you, post them here, or what? I also have some other ideas like how we can get the word out about this, I have a list of speakers that needs to be added to, and a list of other optional awards if we are going to make this like an Emmy's for authors as I really, really, really hope we do.
I'm thinking I should make a topic here on this group that would be things we've thought of that would be included in the convention, or are option, or ways to bring out a little further in the future to get the news out there and stuff. It would include my lists, but would be added to as we come up with things. Is that alright? And would you like me to message you my ideas first?


Not only that, but I had a thought..... are we going to have legal issues if we call it a Å·±¦ÓéÀÖ Convention? We may just have to call it something different(but that doesn't mean we can't inform those on GR about it, so they can all come and meet). So making it something more like an Emmy's for authors and not being so focused on just a GR convention might be the smart way to go.

Oh, and I added something to the to-do list.


Also(dang, this is getting to be a long post....) am I on the right trail of thinking? That we can/could make this an Emmy's for authors? I really think it's the best way to go..... But if you are on a different trail of thought, maybe we should start a poll and see which way everyone in the group thinks we should go. Just a normal convention, or something bigger. Either way we have to come up with funding for it, and I think it would be easier to come up with it for my idea.... but if that's not what people want, then... we can just have a convention.

Months, yes. I know. Same with any good convention.
And the where and when... that won't take much time to figure out.

*facepalm* AGAIN!!!!! It depends on where and how booked they are and the cost. Some places might not be avaliable for like...say 8 months but they're really cheap.

Maybe we won't be ready in 8 months! Ever think of that?! It sounded to me(based off of other's posts) that authors are wanted. Well authors are busy people and may want extra notice in advance as well.

Here's what I think we need to do:

1) Find out how much it'll cost to book a convention(this is after we choose a location).
2) We find out if we can get the money back(or at least a portion of it) after booking it, if we can't get the convention up.
3) We book the place, then start coming up with a list of the rest of the costs we'll need then add it up.
4) We split up the costs for how much we should charge any authors, publishing companies, entrance fees, etc and break up the cost that way.

If we do that, there would be no way we'd have financial issues with it all. And if the whole things fails..... we just ask the place to not keep the place booked for us and the most we could loose is just the cost for booking it, and our time.

We shouldn't book till we now all the details.

Okay, so first we come up with a list of the costs. Then we figure out how we'd split it up. and THEN we book it.

THEN WHAT? You seem opposed to every single thing I say! Even what it makes sense!

I said we don't book till we have a loy planned out...don't forget...if we gonna have security that'll effect where we are.

But if we get an actual convention center it may have security and stuff already in with it all.


OKAY. so I guess first thing first is to look at some convention buildings in a few locations(let's say Vegas area, someplace out in California, Chicago, and NYC) and also at some of the larger hotels in those places.
From what we see we can come up with a general idea of pricing, room/building size and the legal number of people allowed in the room/building, and if they offer security and other needed people(like folks to clean up after, people to direct parking, etc).

Sound like a good step one? Maybe you and I can both take a city or two and come up with some numbers by the end of the week?

Nope.....we can't figure out location yet...remember the polls! The members!!!!..I think we should figure out location last. But yeah we should ask around in multiple places in thoose areas to get general ideas..

Anyone mind helping? I've been busier then I thought... I've gone through most of the ones in California, and the ones in NY. If people don't want to, or don't have time to help, I don't mind. But it'll take me longer. A lot of those websites created for convention centers are hard to navigate and takes forever to figure out costs and stuff.... so don't feel you have to help.

Well we could have sectioned off areas for different types of groups.... Like reading goal groups, Warrior groups, Hunger Games groups, and ect...

A plan of attack:
-Get 600 people interested in this convention idea
-choose 20-30 people for staff
-From those choose 5 to head the whole event. These people would be set up as such: 2 people to organize the food/catering. 2 people to oversee the set-up. 1 person to oversee everything in general
-Choose ONE city to have this in.
-Narrow that city down to a hotel/center/building and book the place
-Look for caterers(Random people can bring food, but separate that food from the catered food. Could be poisoned.) and rent-a-cops
-Choose an entrance fee, I'd say $8.
-Contact people from comic-cons and other conventions from your town or area. Try to convince them to sell their merchandise there and we can take a small percentage of their profits for selling their goods at our convention.
-designate stations to people in the convention.
-have a logo and advertise everywhere
-make a youtube video to get it out there, have someone who can design it very well make the video
-decide HOW you want the convention to be, an Emmy awards thing should be the main attraction, but not detract from the stations
-get authors from GR to come and sell their books
-Make a team of people who can contact authors and inform them and try to get them to join the convention. (This does not mean pestering)
-Get people to start making a big deal about the convention. Make sure to tell people that it is loosely based on the site, and more of based on books and a group of authors coming together to peer-review, buy, and talk.
-Section off areas for groups from the site. Groups who want this will have to pay a small price for it and reserve it.
-Buy sticker name-tags and have markers attached to a wall where people can put their usernames on it
-Get a TV hooked up to a computer that someone can run and list all the users from the site who have signed in, people in groups who have signed in, and authors who have signed in. It can scroll/flash-change
-design and print pamphlets that can list all that will go on including groups that have paid for their spot

Feel free to add on to this. I just felt this would make everything seem a bit more real and less like an unformed group of people going, "Yeah! We should do that!" And then no one doing anything. I want this done.
