I am reading Monster Hunters International and I love it. Sarcasm, guns, monsters.... perfect.

Jingo, by Terry Pratchett, looks like it might be relevant. In fact most of Pratchett's Discworld novels skewer with satire people who are racist, sexist, nationalistic, or all of the above.

The Star RoverEast of Eden

I am currently reading The Star Rover which i got on interlibrary loan and do not want to travel with as I fear losing it. So I am carrying East of Eden around with me right now as its an old paperback that I own.

I think we should read Fish is Fish sometime. I used to read it to my son quite often.

Fish is Fish Its really a children's book but ....won't spoil it for you.

Is Fish is Fish relates to prejudice or racism in a way? It sounds interesting though!

Last Days in Africville (a children's novel about the forced destruction of the African Canadian town of Africville in the middle of the 20th century and the forced relocation of its residents, it would probably be a good book to discuss, except that the title might not be that available in the USA and other countries)

I wanted to read Mary Poppins too Gundula! I'm actually reading Pippi Longstocking and I'm really enjoying the book!

Yeah, I liked it a lot better than when I read it when I was a kid. You should probably read the sequels as well, Pippi Goes On Board, Pippi in the South Seas and Pippi On The Run.

The Iron Time Bomb

I was reading The Star Rover but we were going to go out of town so I grabbed my paperback copy of East of Eden and then misplaced that so picked up The Iron Time Bomb to remind myself that drinking milk will block iron absorption from meat and tea will block the absorption of iron from veggies. But they should not be taken together as they cancel each other out.

Yes, I have read it and believe I own a copy. I love that book. I like most all of Ken Follett's books. The only one that was great was The Man from St. Petersburg but I did read the whole thing. I start many books and quit on them. My husband just told me to quit reading one that I wasn't enjoying much.

I'm reading Being Plumville by Savannah J. Frierson, which is a romance set during the late 1960s between a black woman and a white man who grew up together. Her mother worked as a housekeeper for his family. They were very close, but his mother made her mother keep the two separated, because she felt it was wrong for Benjamin to be so attached to Coralee, a black girl. It is wonderful, and sometimes so painful with its inflinching look at racism and bigotry that I have to put it down and read it in spurts. I highly recommend it, even if you're not normally a romance reader.

That sounds like a great book to read in this group Danielle! I'll have to check it out!

I thought about recommending it, but I know some readers don't like romance.

I am reading Song of the Silk Road, by Mingmei Yip. Just finished the Peach Blossom Pavilion by the same author. I really loved it!

Song of the Silk Road sounds great Amber! What is it about?

A young woman is charged with several tasks she has to do during a journey in order to recieve an inheritance. I really loved that book!

I am currently reading "Empire Falls" - a story on the decline of a small town and the lives of it's residents.

Spymaster by Oleg Kalugin: Spymaster: My Thirty-two Years in Intelligence and Espionage Against the West

It's a autobiography that sets a whole new twist on the cold war timeline.

I'm reading Dancing with Bears. it's post-apocalyptic set in Russia. I like the Russian cultural elements a lot.

I like that this one is sort of humorous. I think post-apocalyptic stories tend to be downers, but this one isn't.

Yeah! They seem to almost always be depressing.

I'm currently reading The Graveyard Book and it's pretty interesting so far!
