I really liked this book, much more than I thought I would. I never saw the MMC but I know about it just through tv and reading things about it. I saw this book in Entertainment Weekly and thought it looked interesting because I like everything about Disney. It was a really easy, fun and interesting read about behind the scenes stuff. I liked that the author interviewed the people and took information from credible sources, and the book wasn't full of gossip or anything mean. I definitely recommend it to anyone that's considering it :)

i wish she wrote more about the beginning of the nobel prize and who conducted it first!
all in all it gives u a quite fair information about his life and experiments.

The Girl Who Couldn't Say No by Tracy Engelbrecht

I did wonder what I was letting myself in for with this book. I very rarely read memoirs or autobiographies and was concerned that being childless, married and in my fifties would mean I would have difficulty identifying with Tracy or caring about her life. My concerns were groundless. By page two I was hooked. Tracy's description of Maria reminded of the girl in one of the Haribo adverts and that always makes me smile. I recognised the voices that live in Tracy's head, the sensible voice and the impulsive voice. Their cousins inhabit my head and, I suspect, just about every other woman's on the planet. Tracy's story made me smile and laugh. By the time I had finished the book I really cared about her and her family. In what has been a dross reading year so far this really stood out and I would highly recommend this to anybody.

الجميل في هذه الرواية أنها لا تتناول فقط حياة المؤلفة بل تناولت كبف كانت الحياة الإجتماعية و السياسية و الأحوال في إيران ..
كيف بعض التناقضات اللي يعيشونها
لغة الكتاب سهلة و بسيطة
استمتعت بقراءة الكتاب ..أخذت جولة في إيران و رجعت =)

يُجسد هذا الكتاب فكرة سعي المرأة للتصالح مع ذاتها الوحشية، الذات الوحشية هي الكائن الحي الذي يعيش فينا، يدفعنا للتقدم و هي الروح الحارسة التي تعتني بنا، هي ما يدفعنا للقيام بالمغامرات و التحديات للقيان بالإنجازات لتي نريدها.
الذات الشافية التي تقف بجانبنا لتخلق ولادة الحياة من جديد بعد أن يحل فينا الموت " موت مرحلة ما"(دورة الحياة/الموت /الحياة، بعد كل تجربة قاسية نمر بها هناك ولادة لحياة جديدة). كلارسيا بنكولا تتخذ رواية القصة كدواء و علاج للجروح و الندوب التي مررنا بها نحن النساء.
كتاب يروي الكثير من القصص التقليدية العالمية و إرجاعها للمثيةلةجيا الإغريقية و غيرها، باعتبار القصة و عناصرها هي ذات المرأة و مكوناتها( الأنا، الذات الوحشية، المضلل الذاتي، ... الخ)مع كل قصة نكتشف جانب جديد في نفس المرأة، الجانب الذي يساندنا و يشجعنا على المتابعة، و جانب أخر يضللنا و يقلل من شأن إنجازاتنا.
أستغرقت وقتا طويلا في قرأته، كل قصة و ما تحويه من دروس يحتاج وقت لاستدراكه ، وقت للاستفادة من هذا العلاج لجروح و ندوب النفس.
الان بعد انتهائي من الكتاب أصبحت مدركة لجوانب المرأة النفسية، اكتشفت نفسي من جديد، عزز داخلي مفاهيم الذكاء العاطفي، الحزم، محبة الذات، إحصاء النعم، تقدير انجازات الذات، و إن ما مررنا به من تجارب و خبرات هو ما يحولنا من فتيات ساذجات إلى امرأة وحشية قوية.

Loved it! perfect for light reading and was funny!
Needless to say, I felt pretty childish 'cuz it had many 'moral' short stories in it. But I found it very deep too!
I found something we can relate to almost every day of our lives
"Now, you know, the world is made up of two different kinds of people. One kind just sit down and mope and do nothing when difficulties come - and the other kind think about them hard, and find some way of beating them."
Loved it, and would certainly recommend it to people who are looking for something light to read and isn't afraid to embrace their inner child.

I liked the stories in this one better than the ones in the other book. Not all of them though, some were pretty boring. It was more interesting cuz their stories were longer and contained lots of magic!
I also liked how it gives chance to let our imagination go wild!
Turning people into bicycle, a handkerchief that turns everything it touches invisible, objects moving trying to ki- hurt you badly.. those kind of things, fun things!
It taught me an important lesson: Don't EVER throw old shoes in the trash, it WILL hunt you down! ((joke!))

not what I expected, I thought this book could be applied to real life, however I found that it was predominantly about in depth war strategies. definitely hasn't change my life in any way.

في البداية، في الفصل الأول "الل�� في الإسلام" نفرتُ جداً من أسلوب الكاتب لتعمقه الشديد في الصوفية التي بلغت ذروتها حينما بدأ بتفسير كلمة "الل��" حرفاً بحرف من غير سندٍ واضح. لكن بعد ذلك، في الفصول التي تلت، أستطيع القول بلا مبالغة أن الكاتب أبهرني بسيل المعلومات المتواصلة عن فكرة "المعبود" على مر التاريخ منذ الإنسان البدائي وحتى يومنا هذا، ثم بعد ذلك لدى مشاهير العلماء والفلاسفة على مر التاريخ، وأخيراً بالسبع النقاط التي لخّص فيها حججاً مفحمة ترد على أكبر حجج منكري وجود الخالق ألا وهي كيف تكون الدنيا من صنع خالق كامل رحيم وهي مليئة بهذا الشر والعذاب. استفدتُ من الكتاب مجموعة لابأس بها من المعلومات التاريخية والفلسفية.

I saw this book a few times in different bookstores in Istanbul. Although I picked it up and read the back cover at least two times, I hesitated before finally buying it. The reason being is that although I enjoyed reading historical novels, I did not particularly find the story very interesting. Eventually I bought the book, and for the reason that I did, I was not entirely disappointed!

The book was well written, allowing the events of the story to leave their mark in your short term memory so that it was easy to draw up later on. However, having recently walked the same roads as the characters did and witnessed the beauty of this city, I was more interested in the places mentioned and the description of people, places and things. The Ottoman Empire was full of colors and traditions; composing a very interesting period in time. It was intriguing to learn about parts of it from a different perspective.

I would only recommend this novel if you are interested in the history. Otherwise, I would not call it an amazing story�� And, I think that by time it would be forgotten!

First of all, I've heard about this book ever since it was released, all my friends around me started reading it, and I personally didn't give a damn. I didn't even find the name interesting at all. So I decided to read it now, few years later.
Let me say that I'm neither an author nor a critic; I'm just a reader, and a Riyadh girl.

The book was interesting at first, but then it got boring and confusing because there were too many stories, which was good and bad at once. I liked the idea that it was similar to Gossip Girl (the TV show). There were also too many accusations.

Gathering Blue

I think this book is a companion to The Giver, which I thoroughly enjoyed. This book was very good as well. Kira's story is sad because she is alone and has a disability. She is fearful for her life and when you see the community that she lives in, you are afraid for her. Even though she has a disability she is able to overcome many things because of her courage, strength, and a special gift. Now I am getting ready to read The Messenger, which is the sequel to Gathering Blue.

The Hobbit by J.R.R. Tolkien

I haven't read many fantasy novels (or none at all, actually). This was really enjoyable, even though it took me ages to finish it, but it could be because I was depressed. It was really easy to read and hilarious at times.

Not planning to read the Lord of The Rings trilogy though, heard it was painfully slow-paced and I don't like that.

Brilliant. Absolutely brilliant. I haven't read a book with a genuinely original plot in a while. I started off mildly interested, but with each page turned I became more caught up in the plot. 

Set in an undetermined future, the plot revolves around the morality of advanced medical procedures. The futuristic world the author has presented us with is slightly crude and not very imaginative, but that can be forgiven as it helps you focus on the story instead of the universe it's in. 
I'm afraid I can't mention much without giving away any spoilers, and its slightly frustrating since i don't know how to properly write this review, but.... I guess... Wow, what I'm trying to say is....I guess what I can say it's a very well-written novel, conveying the story in a first person POV that fits perfectly with the plot. All the characters are three dimensional despite not having detailed characteristics. I especially liked Ethan and Lily (though I hated the latter in the beginning). The ending was... Okay. Not anything mind shattering. But I guess it's hard to end a book that climatic.

Eh. Sorry for the long and slightly boring review, but you'll get what I mean when you read the book. Which you should do. Except, don't blame me if you don't like it or something, I have this feeling that this is one of those love/hate books.  Anyway. Read it. You won't lose anything if you do:D

Persuasion By Jane Austen

I really enjoyed reading this book. It was a somewhat light read. I love the writing style of Jane Austen and her usage of language. I am sure this admiration can be attested to most 18th century novels but I believe Austen is unique in that she has such clarity with her expressions.

The story revolves around Anne Elliot and her "whiny" posh family and the society around them. It's quite a simple plot but also a very moving love story, as the usual theme in Austen's stories. I understand now, why they say this is the most mature of Austen's work (besides the fact that it was her last). It has much more mature as well as older characters than, for example, Pride & Prejudice.

I like Craig Ferguson. I like his show. And I like it when he sometimes takes the time to address something serious. There's just a tone of truth that I find interesting.

I purchased this book (audio book, read by Ferguson himself) because I was interested in his account of his alcoholism, and because I find the inside world of comedy and comedians intriguing.

He talks first about his childhood in a rough town near Glasgow in Scotland; of his sudden and short trip with his fat...moreI like Craig Ferguson. I like his show. And I like it when he sometimes takes the time to address something serious. There's just a tone of truth that I find interesting.

I purchased this book (audio book, read by Ferguson himself) because I was interested in his account of his alcoholism, and because I find the inside world of comedy and comedians intriguing.

He talks first about his childhood in a rough town near Glasgow in Scotland; of his sudden and short trip with his father to NYC; of his first forays into drugs, alcohol, and rock and roll; of his family and his marriages; of his move to the US and start in show business.

Obviously, the book is funny at times. Some parts are heavy and some are light. I just really liked the author's take and analysis on various themes that appeared in the book. One example is sectarian violence amongst kids. Another is his decision to always choose adventure over stability.

It's the war between science and religion all over again!. If you're new to the so called "debate" between evolution and intelligent design (creationism), this is defiantly the right book.

In this book, Shermer (a former creationist) defends evolution and science against the ignorant creationists' crusade.

I'm familiar with the whole debate, so the book didn't add any new information, but I'm impressed by how the author managed to present the ideas and arguments in an easy and simple way.

Excellent book.

well as much as I loved this book, it seems when you set the bar high after the first book..people expect more..I'd rate this 4-4.5 because the first chapters were kinda dull and had no right sense of time. Only after half of the book was over I started to feel the excitement and the thrill that's when the hunger games begun. The ending actually has done it all..struck me with the reveled, unexpected secrets..overall this series never fails to keep me wanting more! I'm going to read book 3 soon!! hoping it's as good as the first 2

Inivisible Monsters by Chuck Palahniuk

This is the second book I read by Palahniuk; I can see why this guy is popular! His style is kind of aggressive, if I could say so, he is not so mainstream and gosh how much he hates television! I will read more of his books in the future and I'm sure I will find the same concept in each books he wrote; angsty, revolution and disturbing images! I must say that I had a different idea of this book before reading but either way, I'm not disappointed in it. If there was a hint of disappointment, it's just because that I had to stop reading it for a long while :( The book so entertaining, and I personally believe it's better than Lullaby. The sotry of a beautiful model losing her beauty and trying to live her life afterward is so gripping, and the end of book is so shocking you want to shake the book and scream WHY? WHYYYY?! I loved how the sotry peels itself pages after pages until you can see the whole shocking truth. The books is consisted of several flashbacks, disturbing humor and of course, qoutes that will make you think!
