Elizabeth (elizabethoverton) | 11 comments Who's your favorite character, and (of course) why?

*I suppose this could include spoilers.*

HeyT | 501 comments The Luggage. It's terribly frightening and hilarious at the same time.

Jon (jonmoss) | 889 comments Definitely the luggage!

Kristjan (booktroll) | 200 comments Oy veh ... I couldn't stand the 'luggage.' Way too much power for the storyline IMHO and not particularly funny to me; in fact, the gods throwing dice was better (cliche ... but definately better).

Of the main characters ... my vote goes to Hrun the Barbarian (with the Dragonlady a close second). Over-all though, my favorite is actually a minor unnamed character ... the iconograph imp (with Sir Not Appearing a close second).

Angie | 342 comments My favorite character is the luggage also (though a close second would be Hrun). I loved how the luggage is so determined to stay with his master. I love the whole description of the luggage, and how it lured Hrun to save it's master.

I hadn't thought about the imp as a character, but it is a highlight of the book.

message 7: by Jen (new)

Jen (squirrelgirl) I couldn't agree more Angie. I loved the determination of the luggage. I don't know what it was, but the luggage had me laughing out loud. An easy second for me is Hrun. And I love his follow-up appearances in other Discworld books as well.

message 8: by KristenR (new)

KristenR (klrenn) | 124 comments I thought the luggage was funny, but I didn't think of it as an actual chaacter....my favorite character was Hrun the Barbarian.

message 9: by Amy (new)

Amy (amyhageman) | 60 comments I loved the luggage - but I also liked Twoflower. And I was happy when Hrun and the dragonlady left the plot. I liked the 'dead' dragon master much better.
I liked the luggage because of the fierce loyalty he showed to Twoflower. And I just like the phrase 'sapient pearwood.'
Why I liked Twoflower is a little harder to determine - he had a quality of innocence that transcended the dolting tourist image.

message 10: by Valerie (new)

Valerie (darthval) | 781 comments I loved Death. He was so matter-of-fact in carrying out his job.

The simplistic and ferocious focus of the luggage was also great.

message 11: by Leonie (new)

Leonie (leonierogers) | 1209 comments Yes, definitely The Luggage.

message 12: by Phrynne (new)

Phrynne I love The Luggage too. But Death is one of my favourite characters from the whole series. He has some fantastic moments in later books!

message 13: by Cheryl (new)

Cheryl (cherylllr) Ah yes, "sapient pearwood." Ok, now I'm convinced I have to make time to reread this.

I think that The Luggage really comes into its own a little later, but The Colour of Magic is a good introduction.

Sapient pearwood though - genius!

Not going to lie...I liked the luggage best of all. Single minded, loyal, persistent. Every hero needs a side-kick this awesome.
