Kurt I most certainly do! The local library has a room called The Book Nook, and all paperback books are 50 cents, hardcover books are $1.00! Needless to say I can walk out of there with an armfull of loot and VERY minimal damage to my wallet!!! I love it.

message 2: by Michelle (new)

Michelle Gilmore | 510 comments I do too. I go to used booksales and leave with bags and bags of books for very little money. Sometimes, I end up with duplicates, but I'm always happy to give those to someone else.

message 3: by Fani *loves angst* (last edited Apr 03, 2011 09:56AM) (new)

Fani *loves angst* (fanip) Definitely. I read about 120-140 books per year and I have over 300 unread already. I could buy no books for the next 2 years and still have more to read, but I keep adding to that TBR every month:( I doubt I'll read all of them someday.

message 4: by Kimberly (new)

Kimberly I do as well. I own over a thousand books and have read maybe 225 of them. Last year I didnt have a library card because I had fines on my account so I had to read a lot off my shelves which was great but now that I have a card again I've been neglecting the ones I own.

message 5: by Moon (new)

Moon | 37 comments Since I've discovered a couple independent bookshops with a decent selection of used books, I seem to buy so many for so little. Between my job and spending time with my boyfriend, I don't seem to read as much as I used to. I think biting off more than I can chew most certainly applies to me in this matter of books. :)

message 6: by Shannon (new)

Shannon | 63 comments In the month of March I bought almost 60 books. I read 10. And I keep adding to my collection! When I see a book I can't pass up on, I get it! I found if I wait then I can't find the book again! I just bought, Tales and Poems by Edgar Allan Poe, yesterday. It's an old classic book in mint condition! It doesn't look like it was even read once! So I HAD to get that!

message 7: by Lala (new)

Lala i do it too :) In Turkey they don't have so many sales for english books, but i still buy too many to read them all and i will keep doing it i guess....i just enjoy buying books :)

message 8: by Mark (new)

Mark (rorscach) | 8 comments All the time. I have loads of books to read all the time, but when i have some money and see a book or two that sounds good, i have to buy them, even though i know i probably wont get to read them for weeks.

message 9: by Ellen (new)

Ellen (elliearcher) Unbelievably. And then I take out library books on top of that-way too many to read. I don't know how fast I think I read but I'm not sure Evelyn Wood & his whole speedreading class could make a dent even in my most recent piles.

message 10: by Patricia (new)

Patricia (pg4003) | 45 comments At last count I had 348 books on my Kindle, with maybe 50 of those already read. Also have probably 40 on my Nook that are unread too. And yet I still keep looking for more, is this an illness???

message 11: by Traci (new)

Traci | 9 comments I buy books like most people buy clothes, most likely would be a good candidate for hoarding! LOL

Patricia, I think so, and we both got it! LOL

message 13: by Teawench (new)

Teawench All. The. Time.

At last count I had over 3000 books. I've read maybe a third of them and I keep buying more. Now that I have a nook it's probably worse. I've gotten a ton of free ebooks so I've not had to buy many, yet, but it certainly hasn't stopped me.

message 14: by Louise (new)

Louise | 280 comments Hmm I have about 800 books that i have NOT read yet...
For the 6-7 years I worked in bookshops I bought a lot of books, and when I see really cool stuff here, in a shop/flea market or in a review, I get it for my "collection" :-)

LOL! My family just accused me of hoarding my books!

I am going to have to call the library around me and see if they have something like this!

I do this too. When I grab a book I want to read OR I just see a cool old one, I grab it cause I KNOW if I want and come back I'll never find it again!

Kurt Shannon wrote: "Kurt wrote: "I most certainly do! The local library has a room called The Book Nook, and all paperback books are 50 cents, hardcover books are $1.00! Needless to say I can walk out of there with a..."

Shannon... yeah, alot of the smaller community libraries will have many people donate books to them, and they are bound to receive multiple copies of the same book. When this happens, they usually sell them very cheap! The library I go to uses the money they make on selling those books to go and buy more books to sell and it makes everyone happy!!!

I find out about a lot of library sales on booksalefinder.com .

message 20: by Veronika (new)

Veronika (vforveronika) I don't usually buy the books due to the lack of funds :'(
but I have over 300 books on my TBR list on goodreads and I add at least 1-3 books a week. I doubt that I'll actually read all of those books before I'm dead though lol.

message 21: by Neko (new)

Neko yep...kinda need to stop doing it >_<;;;

message 22: by Laurie (last edited Apr 04, 2011 03:47AM) (new)

Laurie Oh boy, do I ever buy too many books - I gave away 50+ bags of books and still have too many unread books on hand. I still buy more.

message 23: by [deleted user] (new)

o i do ...its terrible but i love it :D

message 24: by Arminius (new)

Arminius I have 36 books on my Nook. I have read 7 of them. I also have 4 around 500 page paperbacks and 2 hardbacks. I have read two.

Then at home I have about 100 books that I haven't read yet.

message 25: by Char (new)

Char (CharmaineElaine) I have way too many books, I feel the need to buy books at least one a week. I think it's an addiction, but my mum's making me put them on a wishlist on Amazon and is planning to get as many as possible for Christmas (She's decided to be organised this year.)

message 26: by Jennifer C (new)

Jennifer C definitely! When I see a yard sale or a friends of the library book sale I just can't help myself. So many books that need a home for so cheap - how can you say no? Of course I can go years without buying another book and still not get through all the ones I have to read but hey it makes me happy. :D

message 27: by Sam (new)

Sam (lit-brit) I constantly have a pile of books at my bedside and they never seem to disappear! I have to buy books for my bookclub, and inevitably I will buy 2 or 3 more to get free shipping!!!

I have also started to buy from Goodwill and the local library sale, so the pile is growing and I can't get through them fast enough! Even my husband has a pile!

message 28: by Ron (new)

Ron Feasel (ronfeasel) | 53 comments Reading enriches the mind!

message 29: by Julie (new)

Julie Rose (julierose_) | 4 comments I have two bookshelves in my room: books that have been read and books that need to be read. The need to read shelf just got under 20...although I made an Amazon order this afternoon to up the count again. It's bad for my wallet but I like variety in my authors, so if I only have a couple books on hand they may not be what I'm in the mood for at the moment, which makes me always buy more!

message 30: by Beth (new)

Beth (vanburren) | 69 comments You know it!!! I think that's part of what classifies us as obessed!! I have about 400 books on my shelves that I haven't read yet, and at the end of the month, there are THREE book fairs in my area. I'm pretty sure it's safe to say that I'll probably have another 50 books or more by the time I get done shopping all three!!

message 31: by Mark (new)

Mark Burns (TheFailedPhilosopher) All the time... when I have the money, that is! When I do my vice is buying a whole series or two or three and anything new from the fantasy section... and I do still head over to the philosophy section. And then to Science... and history... and religion... well you get the point.

message 32: by Lex (new)

Lex Mori (lex_mori) | 12 comments Too often, but only because I never have time to read them anymore. Waayy too busy with work and college. But I know which books I really want to read, so I buy them before I can't. Also, I just keep running into great books for really cheap, so I just keep buying them. The other day, I found brand new hardcovers of John Green's Papertowns for $3 a piece, so I bought one for me and one for my mom.

message 33: by Afsana (new)

Afsana (afsanaz) | 157 comments I think it stands to reasdon that we all have books that we do not have time to rad as per the name of the group book buying addicts.....LOL!!

I have 330+ book on my tbr but this year I will average at about 12o -130 and I can't stop myself buying more

message 34: by kwesi ÕÂӢʨ (last edited Apr 05, 2011 03:16PM) (new)

kwesi ÕÂӢʨ (kwesifriends) I have to tell you the truth guys, I buy triple the amount of books I've read. I don't know why, I can't imagine myself buying books every week. I'm new here and I don't know where to start. Haha. In my place, we have this secondhand bookstore that sold books below 1 dollars! I can't help but to buy.

message 35: by Trinkit (new)

Trinkit | 3 comments I've been letting books pile up from birthdays, Christmases and visits to the bookstore for the past year. I haven't been reading as much and it's probably because the book I'm currently on is boring, but I want to finish it. All 1000 and some pages.

message 36: by Jocelin (new)

Jocelin | 151 comments I would definitely have to say yes to this question. I have a pile of 38 books sitting on my coffee table waiting for me to read them. There is one that has been unread for about 10 yrs. I think I need to give up on that one.

message 37: by Blair (new)

Blair (bloodyirishguard) | 2 comments You bet I do, I have two book shelves of books one for fiction the other for non-fiction. That and a few boxes full in the closet/attic. Kind of a book hoarder, I hate to give/sell them just in case I want to read them again.

message 38: by Cecilie (new)

Cecilie (cecili2424) | 5 comments I definitely do that too. I end op buying some more than I read, but not really many, but as I watch my stack of non-read books i bought it usually just keeps growing, but I try to keep up the best i can.

message 39: by Amanda (new)

Amanda (amandapearl) I own almost 200 books I haven't read.... o.O

message 40: by Joy Marie (new)

Joy Marie I have about 100 books on my shelf waiting to be read. Luckily my husband limits me to one bookshelf or I would have a house full of books waiting to be read.

Laurie (barksbooks) (barklesswagmore) No, I'd never do such a thing. You people are all crazy ;)

Honestly, I'm afraid to count them all and I will surely die before I get everything read but yet I continue to collect them. Now it's ebooks! At least those are easier to "hide".

message 42: by Faye (new)

Faye (lastchapter) | 14 comments Sorry, I am guilty as charged....I have five book cases I used to keep all books but now I do part with the ones I have finished reading. Over the last year I have sold my books I have read and I donate the money to charity. This makes sure I continue to get rid of some books.

message 43: by Jack (last edited Apr 08, 2011 02:37AM) (new)

Jack (echoicglory) | 41 comments I usually try not to buy that many books. But, I ended up buying more anyway. On average, I'll buy around 10 per month and I barely have time to finish 80% of it. It's driving me crazy. I wish I have all the time in the world to read. Currently I have around 30 books (I was hospitalized and found the time to read half of the books) I've bought from 2008 - 2010 that I haven't even read and I'm pretty sure I'd ended up with more. So many books, too little time to read...

message 44: by McKenzie (new)

McKenzie | 45 comments I have over 60 books that I have yet to read and I still buy more. I am trying to discipline myself from buying too many lately but it's not working. I am slowly chunking away at what I have to read and get like 3 or so done a week on average.
It's gotten pretty bad this month due to the Borders going out of business sale and the fact I found a used bookstore near me that has a good, big selection of horror titles.

message 45: by Denise (new)

Denise Always! My being loose in a book store or library is like leaving a gambler at the racetrack.

message 46: by Ellen (new)

Ellen (elliearcher) I have 900 books just on my Kindle (that I got last Christmas) to read-and my paper books are even worse (I don't keep most pop lit after I read it, just poetry, lit crit, that kind of stuff so most of what I have is to be read).

I could never buy another book and have enough material to last even me several lifetimes.

But do I let that discourage me from buying more? No I do not.

when you say last xmas do you mean dec 2010? 900 books in 3 months?

message 48: by Ellen (new)

Ellen (elliearcher) Well, my kids started me off with 200.

Somehow that sounded more impressive in my head.

It does leave 700 books.

I'm beginning to see why my daughter gets so upset. :{

message 49: by Louise (new)

Louise | 280 comments Wooooow....

*bows to queen Ellie* ;-)
Better than 700 pairs of shoes or 700 cigarettes - right?

message 50: by sonya (new)

sonya marie madden | 411 comments better than a booze closet with 700 full bottles. I'm like an alcoholic but with books. Most of the books I have are tbr. I'm not allowed to bring new books in for a while. I used to have 800. down to 400, but over 100 on my ereader. Hey, they came with the ereader.
