Carol (actutor) Which book has you spellbound this week?

message 2: by Carol (new)

Carol (actutor) I finished I Think I Love You, and hope to start A Visit from the Goon Squad. I am also readingAll Things at Once

message 3: by Gretchen (new)

Gretchen (gkonkler5) I'm going to finish listening to Columbine by Dave Cullen today. Very interesting.

Think I will listen to Electric Godby Catherine Ryan Hyde next.

Not sure what I'm going to read. Did pick up Club Dead by Charline Harris but not sure I'm going to stick with it.

message 4: by Stacey (new)

Stacey I've just started These Things HiddenandBy Nightfall

I LOVED Columbine. It was sad but FASCINATING. I enjoy reading Dave Cullen's blog too.

I just finished Election last night. Loved it. On to The Giver next.

message 6: by Liz (new)

Liz I still have about a half hour of Brooklyn to finish listening to. But I'm currently caught up in Shadowfever by Karen Marie Moning. I have Mockingjay here to read too, which I'm really looking forward to, but think I'll have to put a light cozy mystery in between that & Shadowfever.

message 7: by Theresa (new)

Theresa I'm not sure that I was spellbound by it, but I finished up Moonlight Mile. I needed something quick and not too taxing, and this fit the bill.

message 8: by Melissa (new)

Melissa (melissa419) | 123 comments I'm halfway through The Silver Boat: A Novel by Luanne Rice.

message 9: by Leslie (new)

Leslie | 95 comments I'm reading "Swamplandia," and also " My Booky Wook" by Russell Brand and flipping through the compendium of the black dagger brotherhood by J.R. Ward every so often. I've got the newest one of that on it's way in the mail along with about 6 books I should not have purchased including the new Sarah Addison Allen...My TBR stack is enormous right now...and I love it.

message 10: by Stacey (new)

Stacey Now I HAVE to read Columbine! Thanks, Gretchen and Caroline.

message 11: by Dave (new)

Dave Cullen (davecullen) | 2 comments Thanks, Caroline. I'm really glad you like it. (And my blog, too. I can't post as much anymore, but I do a lot more on facebook and twitter. You can friend/follow there if you want.)

Stacey, I hope you like it.

message 12: by Annika (new)

Annika Dave - it was an absolutely fantastic book. I really appreciate the thorough and thoughtful way you handled such a difficult topic.

message 13: by Sue J (new)

Sue J (sue-j) | 54 comments Hi Liz - did you like 'Brooklyn'?

It was my RLBC choice last year and scored a high mark. I thought it was a good read and very atmospheric.

What did you think of the ending?

message 14: by Sue J (new)

Sue J (sue-j) | 54 comments Stacey wrote: "Now I HAVE to read Columbine! Thanks, Gretchen and Caroline."

Me too! I hope it's available here in London.

message 15: by Stacey (new)

Stacey This thread is from last week. I finished Columbine and LOVED it. Very interesting. My comments are in the April 11 post. I'm bringing Brooklyn with me on my move.

message 16: by Mary (new)

Mary | 236 comments Um, m-o-v-e?

message 17: by Stacey (new)

Stacey Yes, Mary! I'm moving to Phoenix....surprized? lol. This is IT. Phoenix was my choice, but I didn't think John would find a job so fast. As much as I love Portland it doesn't make me feel very good. The rain is relentless. We have family and friends in AZ and I need that right now :)We're packing and moving 4/26-27.

message 18: by Mary (new)

Mary | 236 comments Nah, I'm not surprised. Surprised I'm not surprised? LOL! I wondered how you'd handle Portland's weather. I know you well enough to know you really a love warm, sunny climate. My mom lived in Phoenix and when I'd visit her I was way too hot, so that hot environment would not work for me. (That's why I bitch about summer and love fall and winter so much!) It's great that you have friends/family there -- a real drawing card, in addition to getting out of Portland's wetness. Move date is coming up soon -- WOW! Safe travels and lots of happiness in Phoenix!!!!

message 19: by Stacey (new)

Stacey Thank you, Mary! xo

message 20: by Beth (new)

Beth Colarossi | 16 comments Unbroken was fabulous!

Carol (actutor) Mary wrote: "Um, m-o-v-e?"

Another move?!!! I understand it is easy to get rid of things when one moves.

message 22: by Laurel (new)

Laurel (laureljean) You'll have to give me some moving tips, Stacey. After living in Minneapolis since 1971, I actually plan to move to Cleveland around the end of May, after I finish things up here for the school year. A big decision and more than a bit scary. A lot has to happen by then, but I have made the commitment and am excited to start over in a new city. What I've seen of it, I love.

message 23: by Stacey (new)

Stacey The end of May is right around the corner! Wow, Cleveland. What made you decide on Cleveland? There is something positive to be said about a fresh start :) You can do it!

message 24: by Laurel (new)

Laurel (laureljean) That's what everyone says...Cleveland?! It has a pretty dismal reputation. I'm moving there to be with someone I've reconnected with on Facebook after a separation of 30 years. It feels right. The re-romance is right out of the movies.

message 25: by Gretchen (new)

Gretchen (gkonkler5) That is so cool Laurel!!! Good luck and best wishes!!

message 26: by Mary (new)

Mary | 236 comments WOW, Laurel, this is BIG NEWS! A real shake-up in your life, but it sounds like a wonderful one! You've sounded extremely happy these past few months, and I know all of your friends are happy for you. Fresh starts are often exactly what we need, even though they usually take some real courage to implement. I agree with Stacey -- You CAN make this leap. (Hope you'll let us go along for the ride! ;-))

message 27: by Laurel (new)

Laurel (laureljean) Thanks, Mary. I've decided not to question it or the rapidity. Thirty years ago I let this go and have regretted it ever since. Now I have a second chance and it feels as good as it did then. So...I'll be 62 in September and I have a chance to be happy and I think this will be it. I feel like I'm 17 (or at least 30). I will keep you posted. I have a lot of "stuff" to wade through (many of it unpleasant) before I get there.

message 28: by Theresa (new)

Theresa Congratulations, Stacey and Laurel! Stacey, your husband should write a book about how to land jobs because he does it with such success. And how great to be going to a warm, dry place. Laurel, how great for the opportunity for that second chance. As Drew Carey always said, Cleveland rocks!

Omgoodness. Hi, Dave! I didn't realize you would see my post. :) Thanks for the reminder about your FB page. I "liked" it a while ago, but I keep forgetting to check over there.

Since I am in the East, I read these posts early in the day. What a wonderful move for you, Laurel! I could tell you seemed to be more upbeat. You can always keep current with the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame.

message 31: by Annika (new)

Annika Wow, Laurel and Stacey - what big changes! Congratulations to both of you!

Laurel - my great-aunt reconnected with her high school sweetheart when she was 70ish. She had been married for years and it was a rather unhappy marriage. After her husband and his wife both passed, they reunited. I'd never seen her so happy. They married and it was just so wonderful! I wish you so much luck and happiness in this new adventure!

Stacey - Yay! for going back to AZ! This really is going to be it? Good luck! What a beautiful part of the country, and I'm so thrilled you'll be back near friends and family! Keep us posted!

message 32: by Libby (new)

Libby Laurel and Stacey, I'm so happy for both of you! What exciting changes.

Laurel, it's not very often we get to start over. I'm glad your taking the opportunity and running with it!

Stacey, I can't believe you're moving again, but am so glad that you are headed where you want to be & that you will be close to friends and family!

Annika that is such a great story you shared about your great aunt!

Liz Sue J wrote: "Hi Liz - did you like 'Brooklyn'?

Sue J. - I did enjoy the book & found it interesting. But somehow from reading the description on the cover, I was expecting something more....I don't know what, just more. I'm not sure how I felt about the ending, since I wasn't really enthused about the situation she put herself in while back in Ireland. I really liked the character up until then. I guess I was disappointed with her.

message 35: by Liz (new)

Liz Stacy - Another move! Wow, I don't know how you do it! But it does seem as though you've got it down to a science. Sounds like this is a move you really want though. Good luck!

Laurel - Congratulations! I've known other couples who have reconnected after many years & other relationships & they were very happy. Good for you for taking a chance!

message 36: by Dave (new)

Dave Cullen (davecullen) | 2 comments Annika wrote: "Dave - it was an absolutely fantastic book. I really appreciate the thorough and thoughtful way you handled such a difficult topic."

Thanks. This put me in a great mood today.

message 37: by Julie (new)

Julie | 59 comments What wonderful news you two!

Laurel, I wish you all the happiness in the world and think what you're doing is wonderful.

Stacey, you amaze me! I need to take a Xanax just to think about moving across town. I don't know how you do it over and over and such distances!

Congratulations to both!

Oh Laurel! I am so happy for you yet so sad for the people at Augsburg. You will be missed.

message 39: by Laurel (new)

Laurel (laureljean) Haven't given notice yet, Heather, but......
