Laura (apenandzen) Thank the Lord is right, Ann. Good for you that all is well. Makes you realize what we all take for granted.

message 555: by She'Davia (new)

She'Davia Williams (redsoxocd) Jeremy...nope I've never played baseball, but just looking at that play, one more step and he would have caught it. It wasnt a difficult play.

Okay so yeah I didnt watch the entire debate last night...well I only watched like a 1/2 hour of it. But yeah what I saw kind of pissed me off at both Palin and Biden...

But yeah today we talked about it in History...and well and discussion that started out with talking about the debate and me defending Palin and McCain vs. 28 people defending Biden and Obama turned into: Me defending our government vs. 28 people saying what they thought our government should be doing.

I just want to say I HOPE THAT NO ONE IN MY HISTORY CLASS EVER BECOMES PRESIDENT. I'm sorry...but I would not be okay with living in a communist country. I would not be okay with people mooching off of the government. One person specifically said "well the government should be in charge of every thing, they should be able to control everything and they should be able to help the people with everything." I raised me hand and I'm like "umm...thats called communism...thats so no okay" and then I defended my point.

Yes the government should offer some asistance but really how long are they supposed to do that for? How long are they supposed to just keep giving out checks to people who are refusing to work.

And it also pissed me off just a little that people think that Obama is going to be so much help, that he is only going to raise taxes for the rich (by the way, once that is done some of those rich people will have to cut payroll and a lot of poor and middle class people will lose their jobs). Really we dont need another Jimmy Carter...that would never be any help to our country.

But I could write more, but I need to turn my attention to the baseball game....4-1 Red Sox top of the 2nd. (My love for Jason Bay is official...wait Manny...Who the Hell is Manny?!)

Ann from S.C. | 1395 comments Thank you for all your good thoughts!! Yes, It has been a very crazy day here. But everything always happens for a reason. And he is working on a resume, because his company seems to not be going in a positive direction.

Anyway... We are finally having cooler mornings! It was actually 65 this morning. Cool.

message 557: by [deleted user] (new)

Ann, all good thoughts from me, too.

message 558: by [deleted user] (new)

Holy F! I've never played baseball but it wasn't a difficult play? Make sense, that's all I ask. But I'm sorry, you're incoherent ramblings that follow only show that knowledge of baseball and politics are fairly equal. That's ok, you're young yet.

message 559: by [deleted user] (new)

Ann, glad to hear that everything went okay for you and your husband.

message 560: by Stacie (new)

Stacie Lep, that was the best and most concise defintions that I have EVER heard and I have read on each of those political leanings.

Thank you. I hope that others are as open to your schooling.

message 561: by Sherry (new)

Sherry She'Davia, perhaps you may wish to exercise a little discretion when posting.Referring to people "mooching"off the government during these times when many are faced with lay offs and job loss is at the very least unfair and inaccurate.

As for the idea of taxes being raised should Obama win I would not hang my hat on the idea that should McCain win taxes would not be raised. There is a huge deficit that must be contended with and I seem to recall a certain president promising "Read my lips".There will be no raised taxes. It wasn't long before that president had to go back on his word and do just that.

message 562: by Emma (new)

Emma Blue (litlover) | 2389 comments Totally agree with Sherry here....that reminds me Ken, I need to read more about Socialism, Capitalism and Communism. Ack, so many books, so little time. *sighs*

Ken great comments. I have actually always wanted to read Marx' Manifesto never did. I still have time. If I recall correctly no goverment ever truely used all of his ideas only parts.

Taxes will never be raised on the "Rich" they donate the money to the candites. Honestly, the Obama's & McCains aren't going to "bite the hand that feeds them".

The horrible economy that Bush Admin got us into is why many people are loosing their jobs. Thousands are struggling & the economy is going down hill quickly. Personally I think we are headed towards a depression. I have to laugh when I see interviews with legislators saying that we are in the beginnings of a recession?! What the *&%($????

Those of us with Jobs need to be thankful but we need to try to be proactive, I am seeing lots of companies laying employee's off.

For example Ann's poor Husband. 61% of co-workers laid off! That is sick.

Unemployment is rising, & companies aren't hiring because of the economy. At my work two people got laid off and they posted a new position to cover both of them hired a college grad making 1/2 of what one of them did. My company isn't giving raises this year and our last company wide meeting they said it doesn't look good for 2009! Yeah! :(

We are going to see thousands of business go under. We need a change in government and it is going to take years to fix the problems that we have right now. The scary thing is, who is truly going to help all the people who have been laid off! I can't see that the funds are even available.

OK all the more reason that SPORTS talk need to be contained to the SPORTS thread. This is no longer a suggestion, it is a REQUEST.

ALso, the politcal debating must come to an end as well. We seem to be aggrivating one another and 'schooling' one another... and before this breaks out into a virtual fight where members are getting upset and saying things they might later regret..... I am calling it quits on the politcal talk! If you want to debate, feel free to create a new group that you can moderate about it. I really am no longer comfortable with it here on this site.

Sorry guys.
But im trying to be proactive. It only seems like this will get worse and worse the closer we get to election time.

I'm pullin the plug!

message 567: by Charity (last edited Oct 04, 2008 06:30AM) (new)

Charity (charityross) Excellent, Excellent, EXCELLENT post, Ken!! You said it better than I ever could have!! Bravo!

A few points left to make:

Yes the government should offer some asistance but really how long are they supposed to do that for? How long are they supposed to just keep giving out checks to people who are refusing to work.

Um...yeah, there are MILLIONS of people without jobs in this country (9.5 million, I believe) and that number is growing. Do you really think that is a result of people refusing to work?!? No one can be that blind, can they????

And it also pissed me off just a little that people think that Obama is going to be so much help, that he is only going to raise taxes for the rich (by the way, once that is done some of those rich people will have to cut payroll and a lot of poor and middle class people will lose their jobs). Really we dont need another Jimmy Carter...that would never be any help to our country.

Boy!! It's a good thing that those economic stimulus checks issued by the current administration did so much to HELP our economic situation!! Wow! Trickle-down Economics REALLY DOES work!! I feel like singing "We're in the Money" all the way to my bank (that might be closing soon). Yeah! It's a good thing that we don't have another Jimmy Carter or "rich people will have to cut payroll and a lot of poor and middle class people will lose their jobs". Whew! You are soooo right! What would we do if THAT happened????

(end of sarcastic rant)

Side note: I know you amy all think I'm nuts but I was raised to have a back up in the house. What I mean is Food Storage/72 hour kits. I have for my children & myself a 3 month supply of food/water. This includes back up paper goods (paper plates, cups, spoons (ect) batteries, flashlights).

My food storage has come in handy lots. Last year we had several microbursts/mini tornado's had no power for several days. lived off the food storage and ample supply of flashlights/camp lanterns.

Six years ago when I was unemployed lived off the food storage til I got a job.

The government won't be able to continue to give everyone money-it's just not there. My back up food ect is part of my plan. I know my kids won't starve! Or myself.

Emilly R (rosario0829e) | 198 comments I am so glad you wrote these article,it drive me cazy when people called Democrats Communist, the only thing close to socialism in America is social security. But what i really like to talk about is Cuba,i live there,i know for a fact that Cuba does not have "militarist Communism" my brother who still live in Cuba ,was in the military, his job was to cut sugar cane, now he is out of the military and own his photography studio. Some people in Cuba do own private property,so Cuba is Communist, where all the natural resources are in the hand of the people thought the government, that provide the people with healthcare for all, education, free electric, water and other services .The reason why Cuba looks militaristic is because the government is in uniform and everyone have to serve, the only instance that Cuba got involved in any military intervention was in Africa, specially Angola in which the Cuban military defeated UNITA,and to a lesser extend Venezuela, that particular incident ed at the Caracas airport involved the father of my best friend,he was killed, name will remained anonymous

My favorite lollipop is also a cherry tootsie pop. May favorite dog is also a cocker spaniel. My favorite cat is a calico. Mine is so pretty and sweet. Did you know that all calicos are females?
I love rainbows of any kind. They are so beautiful.

message 582: by Laura (new)

Laura (apenandzen) Especially double rainbows - they are the BEST!

I did know that all calicos are females - neat, isn't it? We have a calico cat and a black male cat who loves to pick on her & attack her.

message 583: by Charity (new)

Charity (charityross) I really like rainbows that lead to pots of gold!!

message 584: by Laura (new)

Laura (apenandzen) When I was little, I used to try to find the ends of rainbows. When we bought our first house, we named it Rainbow's End. My husband and I used to write poems to each other when we were dating, and the first one he wrote to me was "Rainbow's End".

Random thoughts! Love those random thoughts!!

Laura (apenandzen) I think I'm going to get some hot mulled cider going today in my crock pot.

Love this fall weather! Crisp & cool, and completely energizing - which is great when your sleep is not so good!

Can anybody smell the cider??

Kellie (acountkel) | 992 comments Thank you so much Lori!!
I was getting a headache reading all the political stuff.
I think we are much happier talking about happy things... like puppies and lollipops!!

Grace...I would love to talk about wind!
When I was younger, we had a windstorm that was so bad it blew our neighbors shed down the street! I watched blow away like Dorothy's house!!
Needless to say, I am not a big fan of wind. It scares me. But I do like the sound of pinetrees blowing in the wind when it's snowing....

Lori (tnbbc) | 10557 comments Mod
Ken, no need to get slick with the political stuff... Im not trying to censor anyone.

But it became apparent to me this morning that we are unable, as a group, to keep our personal feelings out of things when we are discussing politics. Certain people were being 'talked down to', certain people were making 'uninformed comments', and then 'being schooled' by other people, and I just couldnt take it anymore.

I really dont like to get involved with what people should or shouldnt talk about, thats not what I am all about. But I cant stand by and watch this political debating keep traveling down a dark and dangerous road.

Sports has its own thread. You can discuss to your hearts content there. But politics will no longer have place here in my forum. Im sorry. I have to take a stand on that. Its too close to election time, too many people feel too strongly about thier opinions, and its just a recipe for disaster!

I appreciate everyones support and understanding here. I am only one person, overseeing almost 1200. I have to do what I feel is right for the masses.

Jen | 278 comments Yeah, guys! Knock it off! It's an Obamanation! (sorry, couldn't resist.)

I think that's a good judgement call on your part, Lori. Personally, I love to talk politics (I know this comes as no surprise), but it does offend people and comments can easily be misconstrued and feelings hurt. I really like this group and wouldn't want it to be a place where people feel bad.

Petra In Aotearoa (petra-x) I have been reading this and not commenting and I really agree with your stand on this. I made some political comments on a book and got back a blistering long comment basically saying that I had no right to say anything as I wasn't an American. So I thought I'd stay out of this too.

This is the best group on Å·±¦ÓéÀÖ and I appreciate the way you run it Lori.
