New author Patricia Leslie,The Ballad of Young Tam Lin has penned a great opener to what will prove to be a brilliant series in the fantasy romance genre. Along with romance, sensuality, and (of course) supernatural elements, it includes issues of morality, including addressing LGBT love as a part of the large (and ultimately, key) element of true humanity, the capacity to love and be loved. Preview it free on Kindle ("look inside"), or find more at .

Michael Taylor (AuthorMTaylor) | 7 comments Hi, my name is Michael (Mike) Taylor. I had my first book published in November 2011. The title: Survival of the Fittest - The Last Hope for the Human Race. It's a young adult sci-fi/fantasy book, but I've had a lot of adults tell me they liked it.

I would love to have anyone review it. I've found that it's very difficult for a self-published author to get a review. So if you're interested in doing one, please let me know.

I also have a website:

I am very glad I was asked to join this group. It's been a very supportive and friendly group.

My thanks to everyone.

Katherine | 12 comments Hi, everyone,
It's been awhile since I've tuned in here. It's a great group!

I'm pleased to announce that my memoir, The Box of Daughter: Overcoming a Legacy of Emotional Abuse, is now listed on Å·±¦ÓéÀÖ Giveaways! Enter to win a free copy until January 17th: http://www.goodreads.com/giveaway/sho...
The Box of Daughter will be released in print next Thursday, January 12th.

Kirkus Reviews wrote, "Mayfield’s memoir is a testament to the merit of psychological healing through the understanding and expression of feelings and allowing the past trauma of the psyche to come to the forefront to be acknowledged. Full of stark realities of abuse but also the hopefulness of healing, Mayfield’s memoir provides helpful insight to those facing similar struggles."

The Box of Daughter exposes the dark truths hidden behind a family’s façade of pious perfection. The author's parents were fine, upstanding citizens in a large suburban community, devout church members who volunteered and gave generously of their time, treasure, and talents. But behind closed doors they took their frustrations out on their children by bullying and belittling them, just as their own parents had done to them.

As a young child, the author found love and affection through her relationships with cats, neighbors, and extended family. In her twenties and thirties, she pursued a professional acting career in an attempt to gain the respect and attention she lacked in childhood, appearing Off-Broadway, in independent films, and on the daytime drama Guiding Light. Entering therapy in her thirties in response to a divorce, she began to unravel the threads of dysfunction in her family of origin. More than a decade later she sought to understand the challenges her parents faced and to recover from the trauma while simultaneously acting as the family caregiver for the parents who abused her. Freed from the abuse by the deaths of her parents in 2005 and 2008, the author began an inspiring journey to wholeness developing self-esteem, uncovering her true self, and finally creating a life that is truly her own.

Good luck!

Congratulations on your first radio-blog interview! I didn't think you sounded too ethnic, and I didn't think your way of speaking was distracting in the interview. But if you want to, you can change your accent, the same way an actor learns accents. Look up "phonetic alphabet," or look into hiring a speech coach for a bit.

I happen to think your accent kind of goes with the subject matter of the book.

Good luck with it!

Do you like to laugh? Then take a look at what happens in this timely, entertaining read when inept governmental leaders create theater-of-the-absurd conditions in a once very proud institution of higher learning. Hampered by severe budgetary problems, the powers-that-be at Famous Union College create situations that bring about comical chaos for faculty and students alike. How will the often eccentric characters cope with the drastic changes suddenly thrust upon them, where compromise is a four-letter word? Come visit Famous Union College, a microcosm of today's society at large, where what is what is not.

I think it is intriguing. I'm not sure what the story is about but I can see a weapon part of a planet and a skyline.

Sharon Michael Alex wrote: "Hi Folks, I just found this group. I'm asking for feedback on a possible cover for my next thriller, The Seventh Pillar. "

From an artist's point of view. Eyecatching, both composition and colors. The weapon draws the eye instantly and leads down to the skyline.

Two things that do bother me a bit. First, the weapon, once it's caught my eye, makes me wonder 'what kind of weapon' ... not a sword, not any of the hand weapons I'm familiar with.

Second, there's something that bothers me just a little about the strip where your name is and I can't put my finger on what it is. Not sure if it is something with the color strip laid over the skyline colors or something to do with the typeface, or a little of both. I think I'd 'play' with the typeface a little ... maybe heavier, blockier type?

I like the whatever it is but combined with the skyline, its confusing and/or conflicting. I'd stick with the switch-pike or whatever it might be. Looks like something from a Frank Frazetta painting d juxtaposed with a Mickey Spillane skyline; it rattles a bit.

Robert (robertdownsbooks) | 11 comments As a small press author, I find it more important than ever to help support indie presses and indie authors. Also, as I've branched out and attended more genre and writing conferences, as well as writing groups, I find my stack of books growing larger and larger. But without my love for reading, my writing skills would be severely lacking. And you can never have too much good karma.

Ken Rossignol | 20 comments There is a pretty good resource for authors at the Author and Publisher Forum at Amazon, lots of threads, some gripes, some pointers, lots of interesting stuff, the thread: What Mioves Kindle Books off The Shelf 1 & 2 are both a regular course for writing for indie authors primarily done by Rob Walker who has taken his nearly 50 books which had been with major pubs and is going exclusively Kindle. I have found that Createspace has really streamlined their process over the last two years and makes it much easier to put out a polished product. Good luck to all, hope to see you in my newest book Follow Titanic, which follows the voyage of the ill-fated ship 100 years ago.
