Michelle (nocturne_13) Introduce yourself!
Hi, I'm RubyRed74 AKA Michelle, and this year is my first NaNoWriMo.

message 2: by Farrah (new)

Farrah I'm Farrah. Second year attempting Nano. Ended with 25k words last year. Will complete it this year!! :)

I'm Cari, aka prettydemons, and this will be my second year doing Nano. Started last year but life intervened and kept me from completing (or even writing at all during this past winter), so I am determined to finish this year!

message 4: by Farrah (new)

Farrah I didn't think to put my link. Here is my page on nano. I think I have my idea already but that could change before November. Last year I approached it comepletely fresh like the book said. No previous ideas, no outline, no research. Just opened the lap top and started typing. I kept writing into ruts though. This year I'm hopin to at least have an idea and somewhat of a direction.

message 5: by Kayla (last edited Jul 15, 2011 05:07AM) (new)

Kayla (kaylareads) I joined the group a few weeks back and totally forgot to intro myself!

I'm , and this year will be my forth NaNo. Fingers crossed it'll be my forth win too.

I'm really excited for this year. I've been planning since May (the whole 'end of the world' thing kind of got me thinking, and I work better with a detailed outline) and I can't wait to delve into the world I've created.

So yeah... It's great to meet everyone! Michelle, don't be too worried. I made goal on my first NaNo with about 22hrs to spare after getting about 10K-ish behind while on a family holiday. And if you don't make goal, you've still written a lot more than most people will write in their lives. :)

message 6: by Teralyn (last edited Jul 19, 2011 12:56PM) (new)

Teralyn Pilgrim My name is Teralyn, though my Nano name is rosepetal720. I don't know why I'm prepping to early... I had such a great time last year, I just can't help it!

@Kayla: I can't believe you finished so much in such a short period of time! I bow to your awesomeness.

I am mystified by "pantsers." I'm an avid outliner, myself. One of my goals in life is to sit down and type with no idea where the book is going, but I tried it once (outside of Nano), and got about five pages into it before I quit. How do pantsers do it?

message 7: by Stewart (new)

Stewart | 1 comments Hi,
What happens in here?
Just stumbled across the group and thought maybe I should join.
Had a bash at NaNoWriMo last year, but only lasted for two or three days. Maybe if I take a longer run at it this year...

message 8: by [deleted user] (new)

Hiya, I'm SongoftheWolf, but my real name is Samantha. This will be my second attempt, as I finished last year with 17,000 words. School got in the way unfortunately, as did writer's block. That is always my main problem - writer's block and not knowing where I want to go with the story. On the good side, I do have a simple outline this year, so it might go better!

My name is Janeen, I am 16, and LOVE writing! I've been writing since age 6 and most of the time feel restless when I'm not writing anything. I made a NaNo account and enjoy exploring the vast website, but it can get overwhelming and confusing at times, so I'm glad I found a group for it on Å·±¦ÓéÀÖ! I have never done anything like this before and am really excited!!!

message 10: by Beth (new)

Beth (smartybee) I'm Beth, and I just joined the group today! I'm no stranger to NaNo, though, been participating since 2003. Last year was my first winner! I hope I win again this year! :D

message 11: by Koori no hi (new)

Somebody make a sticky note! A thread for good luck and reminders not to despair in mid-November would definitely be helpful.

message 15: by Vicky (last edited Sep 30, 2011 01:20PM) (new)

Vicky (thesevagabondshoes) Hi everyone, this is my second real nano, although third attempt, as I mucked up last year by going to Rome for a week's holiday. Writing? No chance.

So this time I've used up all my leave for other things and given myself a fighting chance. I failed in my first year due to massive amounts of procrastination and doodling, so perhaps being in the group might give me some motivation.

message 16: by [deleted user] (new)

hey everyone, I'm Shmrie () and this will be my second year doing NaNo. I won last year with a wordcount of just over 92,000 words (sorry, I have to brag on the internet when I get the chance, people in my real life just aren't interested).

super excited for this years nano as this plot has been boiling in my head for like, three or four years now. I can't wait to get to know everyone in this group and have awesome party times next month!

message 17: by J.C. (last edited Jul 09, 2012 06:18AM) (new)

J.C. (jcjoranco) My name is J.C. Henderson(obviously), and this will be my second year. I'm doing a slightly more ambitious project this year so I'm nervous about winning. Best of luck to you all!

Kourtney (familywithbooks) Hi everyone! I'm Kourtney and this is my second year doing nano...I'm hoping this year I will win!!!

message 19: by Stacy (new)

Stacy Hi I'm Stacy and this is my six (? I'm pretty sure) year doing nanowrimo.

I also started a goodreads thread in the helpful sites forum. Woohoo!

message 20: by Emma (new)

Emma (emnor) Hi guys! I'm Emma. THis is my second year doing NaNo. I'm doing the YWP. Last year my goal was 20,000, but this year it is 40,000..... *freaks out. is nervous already. doesn't know if she can handle it.*

message 21: by Koori no hi (last edited Oct 25, 2011 01:26PM) (new)

Koori no hi If you have a nano account you'll have a page for things like updates or posting an exerpt of your book. actually I don't think I ever put a link here for my page either

that's my nano page

message 22: by Leah (new)

Leah (lcossette) Hello, all! I'm Leah, and I've Nanoed for several years now. This year, for the first time, I shall be a Rebel and continue a story which I've already written/rewritten twice. I don't have a particular wordcount in mind.

Wow, there are several of you 100k-ers this year! Good luck to you all.

Here's the link to my Nano page:

message 23: by Rose (new)

Rose | 1 comments Hello fellow Wrimos!

In anticipation of November (just a short 14.5 hours away for me!), I'm feeding the flames of my enthusiasm by joining communities and meeting people who share this same sadomasochistic passion. This year will be my fourth NaNo and with some luck, my third win (oh oh, there I go counting chickens before they've hatched). I'm usually a sucker for shiny, literary pieces, but this year, I've decided to go with something simple, easy, and fun. A vampire high school romance.

(Yes, I did just say that with a semi-straight face.)

I look forward to getting to know you all in this coming month. Good luck to everyone tomorrow!

(Also, to those Western Hemisphere Wrimos-- is anyone planning on starting at midnight tonight?)

(And also, also: Hi, Kayla! Fancy meeting you here!)

Catherine Banks (catherine_banks) | 5 comments Hi, I'm Catherine and this is my first year doing NaNoWriMo. Hopefully I can reach the goal at the end of the month!.

My username is: cbanks (can't figure out my URL).

I need all the support and help I can get! So far I'm starting off well, but I seem to always end up stopping at about the 25K range. Hopefully this challenge will help me.

message 25: by Kimberly (new)

Kimberly (fallenmurphy) I am hoping to finish it this year year. I tried a few years ago, but did not make it. here' my profile feel free to add me and help kick my butt.

message 26: by Morgan (new)

Morgan (morgzsydney) Hi I am Morgan! I am a high school froshie, and this is my first NaNoWriMo! I am going for 50k, even though I could do young writers! I already have 4,702 :)

Add me as a writing buddy!

message 27: by Naomi (last edited Oct 03, 2012 06:44AM) (new)

Naomi (tribalcat) Greetings, I'm TribalCat on NaNo. This will be my 4th NaNo event and hopefully my 4th win, although August's camp was like pulling teeth. I couldn't get my motivation up and ending up writing something I don't even like *lol* The tough part for me is picking which story to write.

Good luck everyone!

chowchowgrl | 1 comments Hi, all! I'm an old NaNoer, having attempted more than completed, learning new things each time. This year I'm going to do something new and write a BLOVEL, a blog novel, but haven't decided the plot yet. Such a challenge after learning to tweet down, now having to amp it up again!

message 30: by Emily (new)

Emily Wrayburn (emilywrayburn) Hi guys, I'm Emily! 2012 will be my second NaNoWriMo and I'm making my second attempt at the story I began for Camp NaNo in June (and only got about 19000 words on). Have done a lot of reworking and am excited to get back down to it in November!

Dianne | 8 comments Rishika wrote: "Hi guys, I am rishika, This is my first time doing nano, Hoping to reach 50k. still havent prepared my plot for nano.."

Hi, Rishika, I'm Dianne. Don't sweat the lack of plot. I finished nano for the first time last year and started with three phrases that stuck with me the summer before. One of them is still in the novel despite the best effort of my characters. I'm trying to get the revision complete before this November.

message 32: by Rishika (new)

Rishika | 12 comments Hi Dianne, Thanks a lot, Well I will be starting my plot by beginning of october, We still have one month tgo... I am really Nervous since this is my first nano.

Kasi Blake (kcblake) | 4 comments Hi. This is my first year. I am so excited, looking forward to it because I've been having trouble focusing on my writing. I am determined to finish. Fingers crossed. I am working hard on outlines and character sketches. For the first time I am organizing everything in a folder. So far it is working out great.

message 35: by Sandie (new)

Sandie | 3 comments Hi, I'm Sandie and this is my first year doing NaNo. I usually write flash fiction, short stories, or poems so getting to 50,000 words is going to be tough. I'm thinking about expanding one of my flash fictions into a story but at the same time I'm not sure how I would do it.

message 36: by mussolet (new)

mussolet (sovotchka) Hi,
I'm Anne (SilverRaindrops here & on NaNo), and this is my first year of trying NaNo for real.
I sort of started the last two years, but I had no plan, and a lot of other things to do, as nearly half my family and friends have their birthday in November.

So this year I am planning ahead, and actually working out what I want to write chapter for chapter, and I hope it will work out :).

I have put three or four different ideas into this story, and nowit is epic fantasy with a Middle Eastern and South Asian setting :).

Do you have a flash fiction you're really excited about or that holds your interest? You'll already have a base to work from and (hopefully!) inspiration, which is more than quite a few Wrimos have before November 1!

SilverRaindrops, epic fantasy in a Middle Eastern/South Asian setting? Sounds intriguing! (I'm a sucker for the epic fantasy genre. LOL)

mussolet (sovotchka) Cari wrote: "SilverRaindrops, epic fantasy in a Middle Eastern/South Asian setting? Sounds intriguing! (I'm a sucker for the epic fantasy genre. LOL) "

Yes, I like it, and I figured that it is a setting that is interesting, but not over-used yet. Plus, their culture is just as old as ours, and has a lot of myths that you can incorporate :).

message 40: by Cari (new)

Cari (prettydemons) | 130 comments Mod
Not sure I've read any at all with that setting (although my memory is faulty, so who knows?), and incorporating myths is awesome! Not to mention all the material it'll give you, especially when you get stuck. Need a way to boost word count? Write in a full telling of the myth!

I'm a bad influence.

I wrote urban fantasy last year and am going mainstream fiction this year, which may not work nearly as well. Urban fantasy tends to be my main genre, so stepping outside makes me nervous. But the story demands to be written and won't leave my brain otherwise, so what can you do?

I've read some, but then I'm really interested in that sort of thing...

Good luck with the mainstream fiction. I've tried it once, but I could not get into it because it didn't excite me while writing it. I hope it works out for you though!

I do but that particular flash fiction is complicated. I never gave my characters gender, names, and the plot is kind of ambitious. I was focusing on a certain emotion and just letting the reader decide everything else depending on their own experiences. I love it that story but if I expand on it I will have to actually decide all that and I'm not sure I want to.

All I really know is that whatever I write will most likely be morbid.

message 43: by Amy (new)

Amy Hello, I'm Amy, and it's my first year attempting NaNo. I Used to write stories, though they were a lot shorter than the 50 000 words needed for this. I'm most worried about getting lost with the plot or ending up finished with a massive amount of words to go!

message 44: by Emily (new)

Emily Wrayburn (emilywrayburn) Welcome Amy! Don't worry too much, last year was my first NaNo and I had exactly the same concern, as I'd only ever written short stories before. But I got there, and then was ridiculously proud of myself! I'm sure you'll do just fine!

message 45: by Lisa (new)

Lisa | 1 comments Hello Wrimos!
I'm Lisa. This is my 6th, no 7th attempt at NaNo. Don't know yet if this year will be the charm or not. I don't have a real plan/plot/idea yet. All my ideas from the last 2 weeks ran away at the sight of my notebook LOL. I'm may just take my original NaNo novel idea and start from scratch.

Hi, Lisa! Good luck!

message 47: by Toby (new)

Toby (tobycrowley) | 2 comments Hey, WriMos!

This will be my second year taking part in NaNoWriMo and my first 'win.' I've changed my planning strategy this year and, instead of writing an outline, I've organized a loose 'network' of story elements I want to work towards and am writing my way towards them, having a lot of fun.

So far, things are working out better for me than last year, but I'm cursed with a different problem: now that I've settled on one plot, I'm getting tons of great ideas to write about. I'd love to spend time fleshing them out, but I don't have the time!

What follows is the best link I could find on NaNo. I hope it's the right one!

Hope you all reach your goals!
-Toby

message 48: by Mance (new)

Mance (glitchyghost) Howdy all! I'm Mance. I've done (and won kekeke) two NaNos and am currently doing Camp with a bunch of stories that have been hanging around. Nice to meet you and happy writing now and forever!

message 49: by April (last edited Aug 12, 2013 04:26PM) (new)

April (strawberry-ringo) | 1 comments Hello~!

I am Strawberry-Ringo, aka April. This is going to be my fourth year doing NaNoWriMo. I wish I'd have known there was a group on here sooner. lol

I have won 2 out of the 3 times I have previously participated. I think I'm pretty decent at it. Throw together an outline and just write. It never goes as planned for me and suddenly I'm left wondering how it even fits into my original idea. But at least it's there. Haha. Last year was the hardest because I had two jobs, however I won...somehow.

I wish everyone on here luck in NaNoing this year! Even if you don't win, at least you can say you wrote something. :)

message 50: by Beth (new)

Beth | 2 comments I'm Beth. This is my third year and I actually won last year for the first time! Hoping to make it to 50,000 this year as well!
