Welcome!

(And that goes out to all the new intros, since I haven't been around these parts in forever...)

Expat Amber (expatamber) This is my first NaNoWriMo.

This is my third NaNo, and I've done some of the Camp sessions, too. I'm a bit of an addict. :)

Expat Amber (expatamber) Yay, another veteran! I need all the support I can find.

That's what I'm here for: to gradually descend into insanity with you.

I'm already insanely neurotic & my vague outline is at 1000+ words.

Welcome to crazy town!

Yesss, pony, yessssss...

My outline is 3000+ words, because I'm both insane and excited...and I'm working on a sequel to 2011's NaNo, so I have a lot of material to work with. Mostly, though, I think I've just got too much time on my hands leading up to November.

message 59: by Kayla (new)

Kayla (kaylareads) Hello everyone, new and old! Oh man, I am so glad it's NaNoWriMo time again, although it only feels like yesterday that I was working on last year's novel.

This'll be number six for me, and I am so pumped. I didn't participate in either camp this year, so I feel both unprepared and so ready to kick word count butt!

What's everyone writing? I'm working with an alternate reality this year, which should be fun.

message 60: by Cari (new)

Cari (prettydemons) | 130 comments Mod
Urban fantasy for me, and after a writing mainstream fiction the last couple NaNo/Camp sessions, this should get real interesting real quick. I'm out of practice!

message 61: by Expat Amber (new)

Expat Amber (expatamber) I'm thinking mine will morph into fantasy/historical fiction. Think apocalyptic wild west and roaring 20's futuristic mashup meets magical fae with a splash of supernatural Norse mythology. Ha, it sounds ridiculous when I type it out! Actually, not sure what it will turn out to be as details are still developing.

message 62: by Cari (new)

Cari (prettydemons) | 130 comments Mod
That doesn't sound ridiculous to me at all, Amber! Based on that description alone, I'd be unable to resist reading it if I came across it. You've hit on some of my favorite things right there.

*sigh of relief*

I was thinking I might be the only one!

Ursamater | 11 comments Hi WriMos,
I wanted some online company this year! I'm glad to find you all.

I use the same name in both places--ursamater. This will be my fifth Nano. I've won all four previous times. I do really well with the time limit and the goal. It definitely works for me as motivation. And it's fun! It always feels like a creative rush to me because I have permission to just write and worry later.

I'm half pantser and half plotter. That is, I plot the bare spine of the story to keep me targeted. I spend a lot of time character building because I find that drives the story along better for me. It's easier for me to change a minimal plot if my characters refuse to do what I planned than it is if I have a heavily detailed plot.

message 65: by Sandra (new)

Sandra | 3 comments Hi, I'm Sandra, dutch and 35 years old. I go by the name of Avalon or Ava and on NaNo I am . This is the first time that I'm trying it for real. Last you I found out about NaNo because my Canadian friend (barely knew here at that point) entered into it. By the time I found out they were all 1.5 weeks under way lol

I am dutch, but read and write in English. I usually write short stories and have several bookshelves of unfinished stories and halve done novels.

I have a rough outline and a good idea of what I want - it's the road from a to z which is a bit in the dark right now. But bring on November and we will see!

Good luck every one!

Hi to both of you, and welcome!

Avalon, you mention the road from A to Z gets a bit dark, and that's what we're here for. I've got my flashlight ready to go. ;)

message 67: by Sandra (new)

Sandra | 3 comments :D
Great! I love flashlights. They often inspire lightbulbs ;)

message 68: by Lyka (new)

Lyka Cali (goodreadscomwritingdistance) | 1 comments Ello. Name's Lyka. Pen name's Ileana.

I actually took part in Camp NaNoWriMo before but due to slow account deletion, all my progress was gone after April. (It's a long story.)

Anyway, I am very indecisive so I honestly have never finished a novel. I guess because I'm lacking that push. So I'm hoping that this year's NaNoWriMo will be a successful one, not just for me but for everybody else - even to those who were unable to join. :)

Elizabeth I’m Elizabeth Slaughter and this is not only my first NaNoWriMo but my first serious attempt at original fiction. I’m very nervous because I barely have story idea but I’m going to try anyway. I can really use some help and encouragement so that’s why I joined this group. If anyone knows of more workshopping resources during NaNoWriMo 2013 please let me know! Thanks so much.
This is my user link but I haven’t actually filled much out yet! I don’t even have a title yet.

Don't worry about the title too much. I only use working titles for my Nano stuff because sometimes the piece doesn't come out the way I planned it so the title would have to be changed anyway.

If it helps, the first time I did Nano I decided to do it at about 11:58 pm on Oct 31st. I hadn't really planned a thing. I took an idea, paired it with a fairy tale so that I had a very basic plot structure, quick developed some characters and rolled with it.

Thanks for the encouragement! I have an idea and that is about it. It is a paranormal romance and /or urban fantasy with a werecat and a witch. Not very original I know, but I have to start somewhere right? No real plot yet.

message 72: by Sandie (new)

Sandie | 3 comments This is my 2nd year. Last year I got around 30,000 words. I'm hoping to win this year since I'm really excited about my story idea. I actually have a more general idea on what I am writing unlike last year where I got bored with my characters and turned one into a killer (I also had no idea where it was heading).

message 73: by Susan (new)

Susan I'm Susan. This is my third year. I won my first year (beginner's luck?), but only got to about 32 000 words last year - very disappointing but I knew that my story wasn't going anywhere. Don't have a title or a true idea yet, but here goes nothing. Strange that in my life I'm quite the planner, guess writing really does take place in another realm... Buddies wanted! I've done this alone for the past two years and I want to try something different.

I do go to physical write-ins in my region. I've found them valuable, but I've also found that on-line cheering is good too. During one summer Camp Nano, one other lady from another of my GR groups and I went neck and neck--I think we both made the 50K because of it. It wasn't in a mean way, but cheering each other on and such. It made it fun.

Jess (jessfirminger) | 1 comments Hi, I'm Jessica and I'm 16 :)
This November will be my 3rd year doing NaNoWriMo and so far I've made it to 50k every year, somehow haha ;)
I mainly write apocalyptic novels, although all of them are completely different for their ways of world ending, I know it seems a tad sadistic.
I'm excited for next week, good luck everyone!

Aria Ahmer (viramage) Ello I'm Aria and this is the first NaNovel I am writing. :)

I've decided to write a genre I am not familiar with writing and something I wanted to try and that's paranormal. :)

message 79: by Heather (new)

Heather (dustypork) Hey. Heather here. My second try at the event. I think I also did it back in 09. I tried Camp this year and didn't get much done at all, but I'm gonna wing this time and see what comes up. I know roughly it's paranormal and how the beginning starts.

I'm working out of my genre this year too. So far, it's been a bit slow for me.

message 81: by Sara (new)

Sara Roethle (saracroethle) Hi guys!
This is my first time participating in NaNo. A good friend of mine swears by it, and I'm all about extra motivation. I've published four books now, and they've all taken me ages to write, so hopefully this will put a little bit of pep in my step.

Aw, which genre is it? I hope things clear up for you in your writing, sadly I haven't been able to work for 2 days because of school, ill make up for it though! :D Good luck!

Beck (formerly Boo) (boooty) Yay hello I tried to do one last year but it didn't work out because I couldn't get it together but this year [even though I am sorely behind schedule] hope to complete my novel by the end of the month

I'm doing a paranormal suspense. Usually, I do some sort of erotic romance (SF, contemporary, alt history, historical etc.) But this year, any relationships seem to be taking a back seat to the rest of the plot.

Susan (mysterywriter) | 6 comments Hi everyone! I'm Susan in everyday life but you can find me on NaNoWriMo at . I chose "Waterside" as my nom de plume for the month to keep me focused on the book I'm writing. It's the second in the Waterside Kennels Mystery Series, tentatively titled Death Tracks.

The first book in the series was published in September, and if you hurry you can still sign up for the free giveaway at /giveaway/sh...

I'm slightly ahead of my daily writing quota at this point. But then again it's still early in the month!

Welcome, Kaity!

I'm new to NaNoWriMo too and this morning wondering what I was thinking to sign on for this crazy ride. (Of course, that attitude is likely prompted by the fact that I haven't yet hit my word quota for the day...)

What sort of book are you working on this month?

My book is about a girl who's dad is in the Navy and he goes missing, so she goes off to him herself.

What book are you writing?

I'm working on the second in the Waterside Kennels mystery series. The first was Deadly Ties and this one is tentatively titled Death Tracks. Here's a teaser:

When an unpopular community member is found murdered not far from Waterside Kennels, there’s no shortage of suspects. Some are members of a support group who, with their dogs, meet at the kennel at owner Maggie Porter’s invitation. More than one had good reason to want the victim dead, and few have a clear alibi. If that wasn't enough trouble, a kennel employee is named a prime suspect, and more than a few in the community would like to pin the blame on Maggie herself.

She’s in the crossfire when both developers and power companies target properties in the name of progress while she’s busy tracking the real villain. Under a cloud of suspicion and with her home and business at risk, she’s soon swept up into a murderous land feud that threatens to tear the mountain community apart.

Have Coffee Need Books (havecoffeeneedbooks) | 1 comments Hey,

I'm Ali, on NaNoWriMo, and this is my first year. I am working on my second book the first is something that is still being re-worked and I may eat glass if I don't figure out how to change it from third person to first successfully before my eyes cross.

I'm excited to get some buddies. Add me and I will return the favor!

Happy writing.
