This story takes place in many parts of Alaska. Christopher Johnson McCandless in the main character in the story and he is a young man from a well-to-do family. Before he hitchhiked to Alaska he had given $25,000 in savings to charity, abandoned his car and most of his possessions, burned all the cash in his wallet, and invented a new life for himself. Christopher had changed his name to Alex and when a driver named Jim Gallien saw him he stopped and gave him a ride to where he was heading to. When Gallien found out where "Alex" was heading to he was trying to disuade him so he wouldn't go through with it because Alex didn't have the sufficient gear or the proper gear needed to survive out there but none of the tactics worked Alex was as Gallien described as "excited". When they were approaching where Alex was heading to Alex disappeared down the snow-covered track. I think that "Alex" should have listened to Gallien before he went off with his adventure or at least have gone to buy the proper equipment to survive out there.
