This is the thread for us to share our progress and non spoiler thoughts on the book itself. Also if you read anything about The Shadow of the Wind by Carlos Ruiz Zafón mention it or link it here.

I'll be with you when I finish The Raw Shark Texts :)

I was going to read Florence and Giles first but I couldn't get what I know about this book out of my head. I have read 2% and I am hooked - the only reason that I've put it down is because I've got kids to look after.

I'm 15% and I feel like I've entered a labyrinth - and I don't know if I want to get out.

Oooh sounds interesting hehe x

Welcome - it's good to see some new people joining in:)

I know how you feel I want to read them all at once

The Shadow of the Wind then SK. It's a bit weird and will get in your head too. It's very well written and not a light easy read but one that has the potential of being one of the best books I've read.

have a look at The shadow of the wind on the penguin.com site - I can't paste in my phone browser. "The Shadow of the Wind is an ode to the art of reading, but it is also the perfect example of the all-encompassing power of a well-told story".

Sam (VanillaFountain) | 577 comments Mod
Ok :) You've convinced me :)

Wow - I've finished. I really didn't want to put it down and have spent the last 3 nights snuggled up reading and becoming entangled in a finely woven web. Such interesting characters and an encapsulating mystery of a plot. I've ordered Angel's Game.

I'm enjoying it so far it's really interesting, I am gonna take it in the bath with me tonight. Peace and quiet might help me feel the same way as you I hope...

Is anyone else reading this?

I'm just over half way through and I feel like I've read enough to cover a whole book. This is not an insult to Carlos Ruiz Zafon quite the opposite I feel I know the characters and the story so well as it's told in such great detail. Normally I wouldn't want this to end as I'm enjoying it so much, but I'm really feeling the pressure to finish as I still have two other books to read this month, but I really want to sit and go through it slowly and make sure I absorb every detail. So I'm going to go with my heart and if it takes me into February so be it. I am loving it :)

Aimee (smiley_laydee) | 92 comments I am the same way Sam. Only read about a quarter as I started a bit late and can't seem to put aside enough time atm. Definately want to finish it and find out more about the mysterious character (who I suspect is Carax himself?) before I move on to the next selection of books.

Glad someone else is reading too! Thank you for commenting Aimee, there are lots of things to come to light, I'm finding myself constantly questioning the book and myself even when I'm not reading it lol. It is a lovely book and the detail in it is incredible I've really come to care about the characters and I'm desperate for the ending. I will get there it's just perseverance 5 pages at a time hehe

I felt exactly the same way. I want to use words like sturdy and solid but they seem too mundane.

Fair warning - when you get further in you will find it increasingly difficult to put it down :)

This is the problem I'm having I don't think I've been so torn up about a book before, but this could be also down to the pressure I've been placing on myself lately :S

Done! If anyone wants my PB pleased let me know as I enjoyed it so much I'm going to treat myself to the hardback when I have some spare pennies :D x

It wasn't the book I chose to read this month, but I've enjoyed reading how everyone loved TSOTW, so I ordered a secondhand copy yesterday from Amazon. It'll join a large pile of books to read, but I'm looking forward to getting to it eventually :)

It has something for everyone and covers many genres - is even a wee bit dark and twisty gothic
