I doubt it, I really doubt it. It can't really be called love if it's not returned back. I don't really think Jake loved Beth. What he had for her was an obsession, at least that's the way I see it. I don't feel like he knew Beth well, not like Xavier did.

Yeah, I totally agree. Jake never loved her and she definately never loved him.

I think he did love her, he just didn't know how to show it and then he got a bit desperate because Beth was so in love with Xavier.

Yeah, I kinda agree with that. He DID get desperate. He could see that she loved Xavier, but Jake wanted her to want him. I still don't think he loved her, though. It was like she was something he knew he couldn't have, so he tricked her 'cause he knew she wouldn't come on her own to him willingly. Unless he was trying to kill someone she loved to get to her. That'd probably be the only way she would.

...Star-crossed lovers. They couldn't be together. Aw. I still think he loved her just didn't know how to handle the emotion because of what he is and because he's from Hell. I think it's sweet in a twisted way.

I've definately always been more attracted to Jake.
And I don't think it's entirely his fault that he is the way he is.

Thatz so right!!! I don't really feel Jake loved Beth either. Xavier obviously loves her and Beth loved him back, unlike with Jake.

Exactly!! I don't think what Jake feels is love. I think he's just used to getting people to follow him and do whatever he wants, and when Beth rejects him, it hurts his pride. so he wants her to fall for him just because he can.

Xavier's intentions are pure and not selfish like jake's.

I like them BOTH! Being a bad boy is definitely sexy. And there's something about Jake that kinda made me attached to him though I dunno what that is yet. Xavier is wonderful and a lot of girls, including me wishes that we somehow find a guy like Xavier.

I think Jake has fallen in love with the idea of being in LOVE. Poor dude.

Their whole relationship was based on Jake getting rejected by Beth becuz she loved Xavier, but not him, and Jake acting all obsessed with her. What he felt for Beth was a stalker kind of obsession, not love. And how can love be love, if it's only one sided. Thatz a miserable existence for a person.

Well said. I agree with you. Jake was just plain creepy and PURE EVIL!! Evil only wants one thing, Power. He didn't really want Beth. He felt like he did so he could out-do Xavier.

Villian, yes. True. I guess I just want it proven that he really is heartless. Evil, yes. But did he really care for her more than he presented, buuuutttt had a strange way of dealing with it because he'd been bred to be bad? I guess I'm saying I believe in second chances also. He COULD redeem himself...maybe.

I think he thought Beth was his second chance. He loved her because he thought of her as his savior- even though he still made bad decisions. I don't think he liked who he was but he didn't know how to change.

she should DEFIANTLY be with Xavier. Jake only wants to destroy her and Xavier loves her for her. he doesnt care what she is or how much danger he or she is in, he just wants to be with her for better and for worst and that is what true love really is. i didnt even know there was a second book!!!!!!!!

She does belong with Xavier. What Jake did, whether an act of poorly expressed love or just plain obsession, was wrong. He couldn't force her to love him. He should've realize that before he ended up being killed. But he didn't. He was blinded by his lust for her and his need for power.

True enough. But sometimes I like to side with the bad guy just to see how others defend the good guy. I think you nailed it when you said he was blinded by his need for power. That describes him in full whether he "thought" he was loving her or not. Still, Mr. Mystery is intriguing.

I guess..... I guess we'll never know if his obsession for Beth was an act of badly expressed love in the "i've never felt this way before and don't know how to deal with it" way or just in the psycho way. It was probably the ladder.

Well, that depends on what the character's motivation behind being evil was. No one likes an evil character, but they can at least try to understand them. In Jake's case though, there's no understanding. He's just crazy.

I like Xavier because of what he feels. I think Jake is creepy, especilly in the second. I haven't even finished it!

Xavier is the good guy who just wants a normal life.
Jake is a mysterious guy, kind of similar to Damon in TVD. I personally like Xavier more for this series.

i am currently reading the second book and can jake just take NO for an answer!!!!!! he is like a clingy boy who doesnt know when to stop. i personally LOVE Xavier!
