Looking for a YA book about...

I assure you it has a happy ending...no suicides, no overdoses, no disgraced forevers, no bloody breakups.

I'd prefer that the character either just happen to be trans* or the book to be about them being trans*, as opposed to the book being about them being the love interest and someone else questioning their sexuality because their love interest is trans*.

Thanks! It would be cool if you could make sure it's listed in all the right places in our group bookshelves - I checked the m2f shelf and it's not listed there.

I didn't realize I hadn't put it there. Thanks for pointing that out.
Rachel

Thinking Straight is about religion and being gay, but has a very sweet relationship in it. Rainbow Boys is also good.
Dream Boy has a sad ending just FYI.

I'm a girl Danni :)
Any more suggestions would be much appreciated.

Thanks Kaje, I've actually got a few of those listed as tbr already - will definitely try them out now.
Lissa - thanks for the suggestion :) September?!?!! Oh man, I can't wait the 30 seconds my kindle takes to download, let alone 5 months! Gulp ;)

Very cool. I added it to the group bookshelf as "bi-characters" and "dystopian" - if you wanted to edit that to add other appropriate shelves that would be excellent.

Scars also deals with depression and self-harm, although it is a pretty intense book and might be triggering for someone with concerns about abuse or self-harm. Well-written though.
A Really Nice Prom Mess is a pretty funny M/M book.
Both of those are fiction.
David Sedaris writes memoir/humor, although I won't vouch for how fictionalized it is. My favorite is Me Talk Pretty One Day
Prayers for Bobby: A Mother's Coming to Terms with the Suicide of Her Gay Son is a family memoir about religion, depression and suicide
New request!
I'm digging teacher/student romantic relationship storylines right now. I LOVEEED Where You Are by JH Trumble. Any suggestions?

I'm open to non-YA, non-erotica, I'd that opens any sort of door. And I agree, it's a touchy topic, but I'm for some reason very drawn to it. I second the expansion to mentor-student, if that helps. :)

Where You Are is a fantastic book. Can't think of anything like it. But Vampire Academy, whilst not LGBT YA, is a brilliant series and if you are liking that general theme you might just like this series :)

What about And Then I Met Him? It's a free online read. It's more student/mentor(tutor) and it's LGBT.

I haven't read this yet, but it is lgbtq and has a student crushing a her drama teacher.

It's not a huge storyline but I'd suggest Skim

The first five books on this list:
LGBT Young Adult Books Published in 2013

Come to think of it I'm not sure of any YA lesbian books that have come out in 2013. I have a few others to mention so here is hoping you find something you like! Hard to say if they will be available in your library or not, but it's worth keeping any eyes out for:
Adaptation just came out in soft cover - literally nabbed my copy today so it's fresh on the mind (2012)
Dare Me is pretty dark but a good mystery (also from 2012)
Between You & Me was not my cup of tea, but still worth mentioning just in case it works for you (lots of 2012 books haha)
Beauty Queens if you are okay with weird/silliness. Very feminist too! Also includes a transgender character (2011)
Tricks is not new, but it's not advertised to have a main lesbian character and I'm set to spread the word! XD (2009)
Here are a few that I have not read but look promising and were published in the past few years:
Starting From Here, Silhouette of a Sparrow, Kiss the Morning Star, Sister Mischief, The Difference Between You and Me, The You Know Who Girls: Freshman Year, It's Our Prom, Tessa Masterson Will Go to Prom

Twixt - F/F dark fantasy
That Witch! - high school
Finding Ashlynn - two girls from different backgrounds
Just for Kicks - fantasy (I'm not sure how F/F it is, but it was listed as LGBT)
The Road to Her - F/F romance
The Second Mango - fantasy
You can find older books as well on our F/F and lesbian bookshelves, and on this thread: YA books with F/F romance or lesbian characters

Ooh, you just reminded me that Sarah Diemer (author of Twixt) also has a free f/f short story The Witch Sea and it's really cute. You can grab a copy .
PS. that is a great list, by the way! My TBR pile just got bigger. XP

I have a book coming out soon that fits your requirements

It is kind of about being trans, not just "by the way, I'm trans" book, but there's Freakboy by Kristin Elizabeth Clark.

Also f-f for 2013 is If You Could Be Mine by Sara Farizan.

We don't, and you're right - that might be good. Almost all the group free stories tend to be happy (mostly HFN - happy for now - given how young the characters are.) We can add a shelf though... I'll link it in a minute.
My favorites might include -
Aristotle and Dante Discover the Secrets of the Universe
Sock it to Me, Santa!
Rainbow Boys trilogy
Thinking Straight
Social Skills (16+ for sex)
Know Not Why
Pretty Shade of Grey
The Celestial
Boy Meets Boy
I don't read enough F/F stories and most I've read are like Keeping You a Secret or Annie on My Mind, the older ones (mea culpa), to make good recommendations but I'm sure you will get some from other readers here.

I liked Shane and Trey, and these short stories A Little Complicated,
"Slay me," said the dragon.

I found one! Actually, two. It's FTM rather than MTF, but it's fantasy post-apocalyptic, and the character being trans is not at all the focus of the story. Check out Love in the Time of Global Warming and The Island of Excess Love by Francesca Lia Block.

Eon: Dragoneye Reborn and Eona by Alison Goodman
It's a gender bender since the MC is a girl pretending to be a guy so she can do magic, but there is also an important MTF character in both books named Lady Dela.

The Coldest Girl in Coldtown by Holly Black
An important character named Valentina is MTF.
