what the fuck. like what the actual fucking fuck.

i just finished this book, and all i鈥檒l say is this: the urge to study brandon sanderson's mind like a bug under a microscope has never been stronger. seriously, what the hell is going on in that man's brain? how is a single human capable of coming up with such intricate, detailed stories? i will never understand.

regardless, i will most definitely enjoy! and i did. i enjoyed soooooo muc 4.5 stars! 猸�

regardless, i will most definitely enjoy! and i did. i enjoyed soooooo much, it's not even funny. i put off starting this series for the better part of a year. if you remember how broken i was after finishing the mistborn trilogy last summer, then surely you understand why. but i finally decided it was time to bite the bullet and see what the stormlight archive had to offer.

and i was NOT disappointed! i will admit, it took me a second to truly get into the story (which is why i docked half a star); the worldbuilding was extremely detailed, and it left me floundering a bit at the beginning. but once my tiny little pea brain caught up, i literally could not put this book down. i suddenly found myself caring IMMENSELY for each of these characters. my fondness for them came out of nowhere, and once it did, it was like being hit by a truck.

one thing i love about brandon sanderson's novels is that when i read them, everything feels so visceral. it's almost as if there's a movie playing out in my head. it's fucking awesome, and it's a big reason why he has quickly become one of my favourite authors. this book was full of amazing action sequences and mind-boggling twists and turns, but it also carried a depth to it that made me pause on multiple occasions. the questions he raises are so inherently human: what does it mean to be good and noble? do the ends truly justify the means? when all is said and done, which facet of morality prevails?

i had no idea what i was in for when i first bought this book, but i sure am glad that i did! if you love epic high fantasy, intricate characters, and world-ending stakes, i can't recommend this ENOUGH! 馃檶馃徎 ...more
