Philip Carey is unlikeable.
I loved this book. I connected to Philip Carey's struggles on a fundamental level. His sense of personal connection is shattered at a young age and he spends the rest of his life as an outsider struggling to connect with others. He fails to understand other people and his own responses to them.

I loved this artistic, fun book about identity and paternity. It felt more sincere and joyful than Iron Giant's Daughter, and reminded me a bit of a Jack Vance novel.
