it was amazing
I heard about this one on NPR and really enjoyed it. Set in a region of India not far from where my in-laws grew up, it was both a fun read and a fun look at some of the culture (obviously with many liberties taken).

101 vignettes about New York's history, based on a list of famous "objects" across history. This aims to be more entertaining and fun than deep history, but you do pick up a fair bit of history along the way. As a new New Yorker there was a lot for me to learn here. There were times where I wanted more depth, and other times where I skimmed an entry since I wanted less, but at 2-3 pages per object, whatever I felt never lasted long, as I moved on ...more
