Marcellus and Tova’s friendship is incredibly heartwarming. Cameron was annoying the whole time. I wish we had more from Marcellus’s charming point of view. He was indeed a remarkably bright creature.

Anathema by Keri Lake

Sarah’s last review of the year

3.75 Stars

Anathema presents a captivating gothic fantasy with rich potential, though it is ultimately marred by pacing issues and inconsistent world-building. The inclusion of references such as "Faustian Bargain," "Egyptian Blue Corset," and "Pandora’s Box" feels out of place, invoking real-world mythologies and cultures that disrupt the immersion into the fantasy world the author has crafted.

At 700 pages, the narrative is undeniably drawn-out.
