Another outstanding and rare offering from one of the most underappreciated writers of our time. Not enjoyable in the way her other work is "enjoyable", for obvious reasons; instead, we're served a double-helping of wisdom. Death & grief at death are so anathema in modern American culture reading a book like this feels like a radical act. Writing it certainly was.

**On the 2023 Re-read**
This book is the kind of marvelous where you go all achy as the resonance of her wisdom goes down the marrow pipes of your bones, then ripples back up to the crown of your skull and you break out in gooseflesh. Probably her best book? The other contender is still lurking in the re-read pile, but I don't see how this book could possibly be outshone. I don't say this lightly: it is truly a privilege to read this book.
