it was ok
I was so excited for this! I was expecting it to be like an anti-colonial Dr Strange and Harry Potter love child. But I found it to be a victim of its own hype. Super loose world-building, unlikable characters, very little sense of historical place for a speculative historical fiction (honestly the way the characters talk and interact with the world, you could replace ‘parchment� for ‘laptop� and ‘library� for ‘JSTOR� and set it in the modern day

I really enjoyed this. The concept alone is so cool. I’m not sure I quite understood everything that was going on, but I was happy to go along for the ride.
