Just saying "a word to the women n the country tonight." She told them:

For instance, in a high level meeting about Covid, Peter Navarro barged in and verbally attacked Dr. Fauci, telling him, "You don't know what you're talking about."

Should be unbelievable. Those of us who don't get our news from Fox Entertainment Network can believe all this just fine. Like a real-life horror movie.

Although I lived through the adminstration of Pres. 45, and followed the news as much as I could bear, I was unprepared for the horror Dr. Fauci describes at the hands of 45's higher ups.

Except for Hope Hicks, these true believers had nutty agendas. And no manners.

Early in 1941, Eleanor and Florence Kerr (an assistant administrator for the WPA) proposed an American plan that would recruit virtually every American woman to undertake war-related, socially beneficial tasks.

Visionary. And what promise America showed then, compared to now with Pres. 47.

Fauci's first meeting with President 41 -- quite simply -- creeped me out. Trump's disrespect, egoism, and lack of professionalism were stunning.

When the Ebola virus becomes a world health problem, there's Tony Fauci.

He calmly describes the (to me) exceptionally disgusting symptoms that go with this disease.

What a hero he is to me!

It was remarkable, hearing Fauci narrate how he had to personally pull his op-ed on this program from the New York Times, due to pressure at low levels of the Obama administration.

Fauci'svoice sounded mildly annoyed, not spitting mad. Which would have been more than understandable in those circumstances.

History will judge us harshly for not ending AIDS when we had the chance.

History? Heck, I'm ready to judge harshly right now those folks (probably at the financial government agency) that said the cost of this brilliant program would be "too high."

An AIDS-free generation

It was so lovely, reading how Dr. Fauci was teaming up with (then) Secretary of State Hillary Clinton to implement a program that could have ended AIDS.

Grrrrr. Sometimes I feel so frustrated at the small-mindedness that can win here at Earth School!

A lesser human -- most of us -- would have put the situation differently:

"People are STOOOPID." ;-)

The whole timing of the SARS epidemic was oddly unpredictible. People clamored for the vaccine, which wasn't ready yet.

When it finally became available, people complained they didn't trust it.

Fauci's amazing summary in his book? "People are inscrutable." Uttered (n his voice recording for this audiobook) with no rancor whatsoever.

Magnificent Anthony Fauci. Wrestling with the SARS epidemic he expressed concern that the vaccine readiness estimate was too optimistic.

He lost the conversation. However, events proved him correct

After many deaths in the family, Eleanor said:

The really important thing is what you are as a person, what your characer and your presence have meant to those of your home or your environment -- regardless of whether this was a restricted one or a broad one which touched many lives and large numbers of people.

It is so inspiring how Dr. Fauci rises to each occasion, not calling attention to himself, but just so very competent. (So extraordinarily brilliant and hardworking!)

When the SARS outbreak began, Dr. Fauci was ready.

Such horrors were observed by Dr. Fauci in Africa.

He mentioned feeling embarrassed that he let himself go and teared up visibly, when an AIDS patient just two years older than his oldest daughter had to be sent home with her mother, sent home to die. Hospitals had dying patients just about everywhere, on the floors and in the hallways.

Dick Cheney and Scooter Libby decided to over-ride the decision of Anthony Fauci and his colleagues, over-reacting to fear of smallpox being used by terrorists.

Of course Dick and Scooter knew so much more about epidemiology than America's greatest experts. :( Or thought they did.

Dr. Fauci's account of 9/11 in Manhattan is gripping and precise: Emotionally in touch and also so grounded in objective reality.

Media enabled the anti-science, anti-factual promulgators of AIDS denialism.

Fauci nailed it by citing how news media structured their response to this by making false equivalencies.

So familiar to us now.

It is all too familiar for those of us who have lived in the years of Covid denialism to learn about conspiracy theorists in South Africa, then elsewhere, after the proven benefits of combination anti-retroviral drugs that allow AIDS patients to recover.

It was so moving to hear Dr. Fauci describe "The Lazarus Effect" of using combination anti-retroviral drugs to stop AIDS.

Another highlight, read yesterday -- but I was too busy to report here -- how delightful, learning about Fauci's loving of running marathons, and his love of training.

Although I'm no runner, my son is, and I look forward to telling him all about this.

Finally I have the audiobook edition of this so-inspiring memoir by Dr. Fauci, and I'm pausing to express my admiration for him and all the doctor-scientists (like him) and other scientists who eventually learned how to use a combination of medications to stop AIDS from killing everybody who caught it.

According to Libby, 6 other people are ahead in line for receiving this audiobook. Patience, Rose!

Interesting view of "thoughtfulness."

It was a nice little weapon. It looked like a Bible bookmark but it had enough lead in either end to crush a man's temple.

"He's good at details and he's throughtful."

After the death ofher 21-year-old nephew Danny . . . .

She had a high threshold for bad news. To Eleanor, there was nothing strange about further grim reports -- the blows had been falling all her life.

The hurt could always be modified with immediate action.

Sadly, the edition of the book I was finally able to receive from Libby is a print book, and I was aiming for an audiobook edition, read by Great Anthony Fauci himself.

As storm clouds gathered over the Atlantic world, she was firm:

We can't turn away from this; it would be so much nicer if we could.

We must face this, and we can't get it done overnight. We have to be patient, resolved, as we rise each morning to a more threatening world.
