This is much better than I remember it being the first time I read it. I now see where it fits into the puzzle of the Vampire Chronicles.

3.5/5. The last third was exciting. Sadly Merrick is not all that interesting given her back story. This tale only picks up with the appearances of of that holy triumvirate ~~ Louis, Claudia and Lestat.

Not one of my favorites in the series, but in hindsight, I see it for what it is: a transitional novel to bring the witches & vampires together.
