It's exactly like Summer Lightning! Two couples getting engaged to someone else to spite each other. An old man helping them with strategies. Someone trying to steal the pig. Lady Constance being funny. A strange secretary who ends up plotting. Still so much fun!

It's boring still! Fast forwarding the Duke parts still.

I finally upped the playback speed to 1.5. I'm getting impatient, need to know what's happened. I don't need all the details of the hair salon appointment with a third of the book left to go.

What a great what-if: what if a woman with parkinson's disease tries to solve the murder of her daughter? It's slow moving, but I love it. This is my kind of book.

I am LOVING this listen. I love what this author has done. We're in her head. Is it stream of consciousness? We're finding out the story as she thinks about getting out of her chair to go to the train station.

I'm enjoying this a lot.

It seems like the author took blog posts and made a book out of them. 1985, though, no blogs then. He wants to capture everything, which I appreciate, but I'm just not that interested.

The most exciting thing that has happened so far is stone table got moved.

I'm hoping a story develops before I get bored and move on.

Oh dear. Each part is a different time period. New people to get to know and care about. Oh dear.

Not again. He in the now, but all someone needs to do is mention Shakespeare or Fitzgerald and the character almost swoons, the headache rises, and the narrator starts talking and talking, and then you're dreading the going back in time.

It's a history documentary! I think Matt Haig loves loves history and wants us all to, also.

Too much talk talk talking for me. Finally some action, but then a huge long-winded, philosophical dialogue in The Globe. I feel like I could have deduced a lot of the stuff the narrator tells me, like just stick to the facts and keep the story moving. I GET it.

Okay, there's hope. If I can hang on, all these tangents might get exciting when they converge.

Oh, it's boring. I'm using it to fall asleep to, and I don't even go back to find out what I missed. When I see him start to remember, I whisper, "no, please." But he's constantly taking us back in his memory and back to now. I don't like it. I want to stay in the now and find out what happens. I wonder if I'd have liked it better if it were written chronologically.

Rather boring. I listen to fall asleep easily for a nap. I miss bits but don't feel I've missed much. I don't want to go back and listen, I don't care about Rose and going back in time. I wish he'd stay in the present and tell us about the class. It seems contrived, like it's working too hard, like this is an author who loves history and has found a way to tell us all about what he knows and loves about history.

makes me chuckle, and i love chuckling. The way she writes the Dougal character, o my gosh, hilarious.

Meryl Streep is not narrating or reading, it says on the cover that she's "performing." I thought at first that was silly, but, indeed, BEING Lara, and it's great.

O my goodness, I LOVE this book! Meryl Streep reads it on audio, really perfect. I laugh out loud lots, and I'm only in chapter 2!
