Just to clarify to my U.S. followers: I do not consider myself in favor of tech oligarchy, having your right-hand-man do the Hitler salute at your inauguration, raising tariffs, ending birthright citizenship, foreign policy interventionism, pardoning those who plotted violent crimes against the U.S. government, and attempting to shut down regulations that keep us safe. Liked most of this book so far but have some strong critiques of its chapter on empire �� It fails to truly embrace the degree to which a colonized people can also influence the colonizer. The colonized may adapt the colonizer’s culture �� but the inverse is also true, and this is left as subtext. I also think a section on empire as ‘not bad�� falls quite flat without any engagement in postcolonial studies.

This book is making me crazy

we need to bring back those YA sex scenes where it’s such vague language that you can only tell that they’re doing penetration when you reread at age 20

I think it’s so fun that the plot of this is entirely scheming and then light moments of really genuinely loving moments between the main couple. Marie Rutkoski should write all ya romantasy and then we wouldn’t have these problems.
