Submission or surrender to God is an idea that’s much-misunderstood, sometimes purposefully so. Both words have mostly negative meanings in current usage. A woman is “submissive,�� for instance, if she doesn’t think for herself. We “surrender�� when we are weaker than the other party, usually unwillingly.

Yet the sense in which we submit or surrender to God is something entirely different.
