“Lotus�� is a mystery short story with a mild fantastic flair about an artist’s pursuit of creative breakthroughs from a Zurich garden in summer. Set around Zurich’s Old Botanical Garden, the story’s time matches that of the lotus season.
Twelve pages, five illustrations, printed on washi. A light volume for the summer season, stitch-bound in a double, dual-color letterpress softcover design.
The lotus is also a symbol of enlightenment, the round window its architectural metaphor in Japanese culture. The double cover design with a die-cut window subtly alludes to the story’s title and the two tones of green found in a single lotus leaf. It also adds a three-dimensional aspect through light play. The frontispiece of "Lotus" is a graphic deconstruction of its cover elements.
