Kai . The readers. My readers wanted more about Armand and Monique, not the surface relationship friction that fit within the story about the Waters saga. To give them more about Armand and Monique, both separately and together, I had to write a prequel showing how they grew up and why they are spiritually interwoven and inseparable. Daughter of the Game Prequel is the brainchild of the readers, who demanded that the love story get a fair chance. And it is my thanks to the readers who stayed devoted to the series, despite the long wait in between books.
Kai . Life inspires me. I people watch. Someone's expression or body movement will bring on a rush of ideas. I will reminisce on a painful event and wonder why it occurred in the way that it did, which will lead to a story. Love and heartbreak always lead to story development. Life, in general, is my muse.
Kai . I have rewritten the series finale, Daughter of the Game III: Burning Waters three times. I am readying it for publishing now. I am also working on another project and rewriting a teen book. I intend to have The Loudest Silence 2 published by Spring 2015 and the first book in a new series will be complete by Summer 2015. So there will be several projects coming from me over the next 12 months.
Kai . When I help an aspiring writer I look for one thing - their intent. If they are writing to achieve fame or accolades, then I have nothing for them. No advice to give and very little patience to extend. Because once they encounter the difficulties, they will drop writing and move on to the next glory seeking venture.
If they are writing because they want to be an author and love literature, then they have my 100% support and simple advice: give yourself over to it, write from your love/passion, and make the project as complete as possible. Think about your reader and the fact that you will influence someone else's thought. It's a powerful thing. Respect it and be true to yourself. Writing is a risk, bits of you are buried in each story. Be brave enough to delve into your work unapologetically, give it your all and, when complete, move on.
Kai . My career is what I do, being a writer is what I am. So its hard to identify a "best thing" about it, because I write no matter what. And much of what I write will never been seen by anybody but me. I guess the best thing about being a writer is being able to capture so much bottled within me and release it in such a complete way. I love writing. That's the best thing. All the rest is extra.
Kai . I wait. Live life and wait. In the course of a day, between working, running errands, going to SixFlags and being a sports mom, something will spark my interest. And that spark will flow into a thought, which becomes an idea. It may have absolutely nothing to do with what I am currently working on, but I capture it and write from it. It gets me through the dry spell. And, eventually, I may weave it into a story somehow.
