The MC is three months shy of his 21st birthday when the story opens (but yeah, that's still young). Beyond that, I guess my answer has three parts. First, I've always loved exploring a variety of themes and characters. Second, I haven't written a YA/Coming of Age story since The Zero Knot, so the time felt right to revisit that subgenre. Third, and probably most important, I'm appalled by what many kids, GLBTQ in particular, have to endure on the road to adulthood, and what kind of impact those experiences can have on their lives. Since young people can be a lot more psycho-emotionally complex than we give them credit for, there are plenty of YA stories left to be told. I hope that answered your question. :-)

Duluth Harbor Cam: Boat Schedule

Why don't any of these ships ever head into Lake Michigan? I've traced the routes of many, sometimes as far as the Seaway, but never has one gone down into Lake Michigan!

“As soon as I saw that doll all splotched with mud, I saw myself, saw how soiled I was. Or thought I was. From that minute on, I felt liked I'd slipped through a hole in God's pocket. Just took a dive right into the dirt and was lost forever."

Greg kissed Faron's hair. "You never hit the dirt. You just slid from one pocket to another. That's what I did too - I took a journey I was meant to take. I know that now."

Absorbing this, Faron slanted a puzzled look at Greg. "Which pocket do you suppose I landed in?"

"This one. The one we're in together. The one I believe we'll stay in."

Faron felt a thrill of optimism in his heart. "I never thought of it that way."

"I never did either. Until today." Greg once again settled onto Faron's chest. His cheek moved noticeable into a smile. "God isn't small, honey. God has a lot of freakin' pockets. And we just found the one we belong in.”
K.Z. Snow, A Hole in God's Pocket

“I'm supposed to quote myself? Seriously? I know I'm a clever wench, but modesty muffles my ego.”

“The scales will always tip in favor of what enriches your life. That’s the thing you’ll end up choosing.”
K.Z. Snow, The Zero Knot

“I haven't any right to criticize books, and I don't do it except when I hate them. I often want to criticize Jane Austen, but her books madden me so that I can't conceal my frenzy from the reader; and therefore I have to stop every time I begin. Every time I read Pride and Prejudice I want to dig her up and beat her over the skull with her own shin-bone.”

K.Z. Snow You're welcome! It's an honor to "know" such an incredibly talented writer. I can't wait to dig into more of your work.

I must say, though, out of all my books, AZ is probably the last one I would've thought you'd like. ;-)

K.Z. Snow Good thing I'm such a demure little straight girl, Thorny, or that protective spouse I've heard about -- what's his name again? Jazz? -- might open a can of whup-ass on me! Those tough guys can really get gnarly when they're sexually frustrated. (Which reminds me . . . has your narcolepsy cleared up?)

;-)

K.Z. Snow Are you cutting in, Bradley? Hmm . . . you're not too bad either. :-)

Aw, hell, I'll just step aside. You and Matt are perfection together. <3
