Matthias Bauer was born in Lienz/Austria. After studying history and folklore he worked for publishing companies and exhibitions.

With Bastian Zach he writes novels and screenplays. Their novels "Morbus Dei: The Arrival", "Morbus Dei: Inferno" and "Morbus Dei: The Sign of Aries" were a big hit among both critics and readers in Europe. The three historical mystery-thrillers were translated into English (publications in Spanish will follow in 2016) and will be adapted into an international TV series by G5fiction/ZDF Enterprises.
Their new novel "Blood of the Picts" will be released by Heyne/Random House in 2016.

Zach/Bauer also wrote the scripts for the horror movie "One Way Trip 3D", and the international adventure movie "Northmen � A Viking ...more
