New Release: Returning to an old home I love

Hello, fellow readers!

This month I'm really happy to "officially" return to one of my very favorite book-homes. It's been more than a year since the last installment of the Eburosi Chronicles, which means it's well past time for a new story arc set in this world.

Some of you have already dipped a toe into Master of Hounds with the early-bird ebook and audiobook sale (thank you for that, by the way). For those who were waiting for the Amazon/Kindle Unlimited and/or Audible release, your time is now—complete with a Whispersync deal for the audiobook!

Master of Hounds is set in the same world as The Horse Mistress, The Lion Mistress, and The Dragon Mistress. While each of those series arcs can be read alone, they're linked by characters and to an extent, setting. Master of Hounds is more of a "fresh start," in that there's no direct link to the extended family that's been central to the previous books. So if you've never heard of the Eburosi Chronicles until this moment, Master of Hounds: Book 1 is a perfect place to jump in.

The blurbage:

An old soldier in search of redemption. A condemned prisoner with the power to carve out his heart or save it.

Caius Oppita has served the Alyrion Empire for more than half his life, watching with growing revulsion as the royal family descends ever deeper into corruption and depravity. Powerless to do more than stand by as the land he loves slides toward civil war and social upheaval, he longs for his days as a general on the battlefield rather than a tame palace lapdog.

When the execution of one of the emperor’s inconvenient bastard sons goes wrong, Caius has a choice to make—do his duty, or do what is right and spirit the innocent man away to safety.

It should have been simple—hide Decian in plain sight for a few days, then smuggle him out of the palace compound. Buy him passage on a ship sailing someplace far away from the capital city, and take quiet pleasure in fighting one single injustice among many.

Instead, the swirling undercurrents of politics and power struggles seem determined to drag them ever deeper into danger—even as Decian guilelessly slips past the armor surrounding Caius battered soul. Caius never considered himself a fool but only a fool would bed the emperor’s illegitimate son. Much less let the brash young idiot anywhere near his heart.

The problem with secrets is that they breed more secrets.
And betrayal only hurts when you cared in the first place.

Master of Hounds: Book 1 is the first installment in an M/M epic fantasy trilogy by USA Today bestseller R. A. Steffan. It is set in the world of The Eburosi Chronicles, but stands alone. The book contains adult content.

The other bit of release news this month is that Audible has FINALLY gotten around to approving the Vampire Bound series boxset, 114 days later. (Grrr.) So if you've been waiting on Vonnie and Guthrie Leonides' audio adventures, all 34+ hours are now available for a single Audible credit.

Finally, as promised last month—a peek at Forsaken Fae: Book Two, which is currently with Nick Hudson for audiobook narration. Spoiler: Albigard is unhappy; Len really wishes he hadn't left the keys to the pimpmobile lying around where anyone could pick them up.

That one will be available on April 25th!

Until then

Vampire Bound: Book Three release day!

Hello, fellow readers and listeners! I come bearing fresh distraction during this ongoing year of insanity.

Just in time for the weekend, is available now. And again, I've managed to get the e-book, audiobook, and paperback versions coordinated for release day. Almost, anyway. (Details on that below.)

Anyway the blurb:

Evil Fae are trying to take over the world.
Okay, right—that’s actually old news.

Unfortunately, it’s even worse than that now. Because now, they intend to use my son—and other human children with magical parents—to do their dirty work for them.

The Fae realm is dying, its magic growing ever more unbalanced. And I guess by comparison, Earth looks like a nice, juicy alternative. They even have a foothold here, ever since the human world became spoils in the last war between the Fae and the demons—a war the demons lost.

All I wanted was to get my son back. But now, the stakes are bigger than just the two of us. If my friends and I can’t stop the Fae, humanity will become nothing more than a race of helpless slaves, bound to a powerful race by fear and magic.

I’m not alone in this fight. But every friend, every ally, every fragile new emotional connection is another weapon the Fae can use against me.

If the price of finding Jace is losing everything else I care about, will I be able to live with myself afterward?

Audiobook listeners:

You can grab your copy as an "early bird special" for $4.99 USD by buying direct from me, while we wait for Audible to get the blasted book through its approval queue. (This is apparently taking up to two months, as of the most current reports.)

If you haven't dipped into my "audio for e-book prices" catalogue before, it's a direct sales platform where I offer audiobooks priced between 99¢ and $4.99. Payment is via Paypal, credit card, Apple Pay, or Google Pay. You listen to the book with the Soundwise app, which is free for Android and iOS devices. (There's also a "listen online" option on the Soundwise site, but honestly the app gives a better experience.)

I'll let you know when Audible gets around to approving it for retail, of course. Hopefully that will be by the time the next newsletter comes out in October. :P

Finally, when you're done with Vampire Bound 3 and fighting the urge to throw things at me, here's a selection of freebies and sales to help you deal with the book rage.

Next time, I hope to have some exciting news for all of you lovely BookFunnel users. I may also torture you with an excerpt from Forsaken Fae, which I'm not supposed to be writing yet, but totally am. (Poor Len. Jus' sayin'.)

Until then

Be well.
Be kind.

Yours,

R. A. Steffan
