O Λεωνίδας Γουργουρίνης γεννήθηκε στο Τορόντο του Καναδά, όπου έζησε τα πρώτα χρόνια της ζωής του και ύστερα η μεγάλη αγάπη του πατέρα του για την Ελλάδα τον έφερε στη θερμή θάλασσα της Μεσογείου και ειδικότερα στην Αθήνα, όπου διαμένει μόνιμα. Σπούδασε προγραμματιστής-αναλυτής ηλεκτρονικών υπολογιστών. H αγάπη του για την ιστορία και τη θάλασσα είχε ως αποτέλεσμα να τον οδηγήσει πολύ γρήγορα στον μυστηριώδη και σχεδόν άγνωστο για πολλούς κόσμο της πει��ατείας στην Ανατολική Μεσόγειο, όπου ασχολείται για περίπου 20 χρόνια. Άρθρα του έχουν δημοσιευτεί κατά καιρούς σε εφημερίδες, ιστοσελίδες και περιοδικά όπως το «All About History». Έχει συμμετάσχει στην τηλεοπτική εκπομπή της ΕΡΤ «Μηχανή του Χρόνου» με θέμα την «Ιστορία της Πειρατείας», στο ντοκιμαντέρ «Οι Πειρατές του Αιγαίου» του Open Tv και στην ταινία μικρού μήκους «Οι Πειρατές της Γραμβούσας» της Cosmote Tv, (26ο Φεστιβάλ Ντοκιμαντέρ Θεσσαλονίκης, 7-17 Μαρτίου 2024). Έχει φιλοξενηθεί σε εκπομπές με θέμα το φαινόμενο της πει��ατείας στο κανάλι της Ναυτεμπορικής και του Star Channel. Υπήρξε εισηγητής στην επιστημονική Ημερίδα που πραγματοποιήθηκε υπό την αιγίδα της Προεδρίας της Δημοκρατίας στο Αργοστόλι με θεματική «450 χρόνια από τη Ναυμαχία της Ναυπάκτου: Ελληνισμός και Ευρώπη» (8 Οκτωβρίου 2021), ενώ επιστημονικό άρθρο του δημοσιεύτηκε στο 16ο Εθνικό Συνέδριο Χαρτογραφίας με τίτλο «Χαρτογράφηση πειρατικών ορμητηρίων του 16ου & 17ου αιώνα στην Ανατολική Μεσόγειο» (2-4 Νοεμβρίου 2023). Είναι ενεργό μέλος της διεθνής αρχαιολογικής ερευνητικής ομάδας «Archéologie de la Piraterie des XVIIe-XVIIIe siècles». Μαζί με την κόρη του Μαρία Γουργουρίνη (Μηχανικός Τοπογραφίας και Γεωπληροφορικής του ΠΑ.Δ.Α.) έχει δημιουργήσει την ιστοσελίδα όπου γίνεται έρευνα και καταγραφή των σημαντικότερων πειρατικών και κουρσάρικων ορμητηρίων, κυρίως της Ανατολικής Μεσογείου. ...more
