Jamie Ford’s debut novel, Hotel on the Corner of Bitter and Sweet, spent two years on the New York Times bestseller list and went on to win the 2010 Asian/Pacific American Award for Literature. Jamie’s work has been published in 34 languages. Also, because Jamie feels weird writing about himself in the 3rd person, he’s going to say

Hi, this is me.

Not a publicist. Not some weird aggregated bit of web-content, just little ol me, the author, sitting here in my favorite Batman pajamas (yes, I have several pairs) writing this note in my cozy home office, dog at my feet. Her name is Lucy and she’s twitching right now, obviously chasing squirrels in her dreams.

While we’re chatting, I should mention that my latest novel novel, The Many Daughters

Hi Donna, sorry for the belated reply, I've been traveling a bit.

This is a tricky one. I was on Compuserve in the early 80s, then Prodigy, and later AOL in the early 90s, so while I had a PC and coupler modem (like the one in the movie War Games) I was a bit ahead of the norm.

That's a fancy way of saying I was a total computer geek at the time, so in my mind, it was easy to do, but for most people, it wasn't common.

In retrospect, I probably should have tweaked that part of the book so it was more relatable and believable.

Thanks for asking. Give my best to everyone in your book club!

I think it was more behavioral than political, but one never knows. The inaction of the principal, during and after, was strange, though he was an incredibly kind and gracious man. I do not envy the pressure he must be under, especially from parents.

Since I spoke out, I've received 100+ emails from current and former students, current and former faculty. Many have shared their personal struggles and frustrations in what is an otherwise fabulous school.

I guess the bottom line is that all schools have problems, but not all schools have the will to address those problems. We'll see what happens.

As they say in Latin, spero meliora - I hope for better things.(less)

Rebecca Just got my paperback of Hotel On the Corner . . Yay.

Rebecca Wow! You have that many people where you live? We have about 200 people here, if that. If the rabbits joined together and raised a small army they could easily take over the village.
