My greatest love is getting lost in a good story, so getting to be the one to create it is even more special. It is a lot of work, but it is good work. I get to think about what ingredients are needed, and how to mix them all together to create something that is entertaining and impacting. For how much I hate cooking food, I sure do enjoy cooking up a good story!(less)

So I had a bit of difficulty in writing the novella because I wanted to tell the story of how the two main characters met, and yet I still wanted to show the personality they'd developed as a pair since then. So the novella is a story within a story. It actually takes place between books 2 & 3, but the story that is told happens way before book 1. I made sure to not reveal any spoilers pertaining to books 1 & 2 though, so you CAN read it before you read the series (okay, so the only spoiler is that the cat talks, but everybody knows the cat ends up talking because I advertise the series with a talking cat).

No, my books do not end in cliffhangers. At least, not in the sense you are thinking. I don't believe in leaving loose ends. However, each book has an epilogue where, after wrapping up the lose ends of THAT book, I always introduce a bit of what will be addressed in the next book, just to whet your appetite ;) Thanks for the questions, and I hope you enjoy the stories!(less)

I can’t believe after waiting so long that Love, Lies, and Hocus Pocus Kindred is finally here! It’s been a crazy journey that turned out longer than I meant it to be (I mean, the book is freaking 659 pages long, so DEFINITELY longer than I planned), but here we are at last! If you […]

Lydia Sherrer answered Nicole's question: Lydia Sherrer
Ni Nicole! Thanks for reading and thanks for asking, I'm glad you've enjoyed the Love, Lies, and Hocus Pocus universe. I've always set out to write this world as near-reality, meaning I want it to "feel" very real, and have touchstones from reality t See Full Answer
Love, Lies, and Hocus Pocus Odyssey by Lydia Sherrer
"Love, Lies & Hocus-Pocus: Odyssey is a terrific continuation of the Lily Singer series.

It continues to reveal new secrets and knowledge about her world, and the secret history of wizards.

It also advances several human stories, ones we have been dying" Read more of this review »

"Bravo! Another great adventure in the Love, Lies and Hocus Pocus series... this one keeps you on the edge of your seat. I love this series and Odyssey did not disappoint. The character development through all the books gets even better with this one." Read more of this review »

“He kept her company, listened patiently when she complained, and always made sure her clothes were thoroughly covered in cat hair. They were family. He was her cat; she was his human. It seemed crazy, but that was enough.”
Lydia Sherrer, Love, Lies, and Hocus Pocus: Revelations

“Experience told her it was dangerous to dismiss a thing simply because you didn’t understand it.”
Lydia Sherrer, Love, Lies, and Hocus Pocus: Revelations

“Fire tests gold as suffering tests brave men. What is done cannot be undone. Therefore, a wise man would persevere, knowing that suffering produces endurance, and endurance, character, and character, hope.”

“People trying to force their agenda on my by deciding how I'm permitted to speak is offensive.”
Steven Brust, The Incrementalists

“The Cool Stuff Theory of Literature is as follows: All literature consists of whatever the writer thinks is cool. The reader will like the book to the degree that he agrees with the writer about what's cool. And that works all the way from the external trappings to the level of metaphor, subtext, and the way one uses words. In other words, I happen not to think that full-plate armor and great big honking greatswords are cool. I don't like 'em. I like cloaks and rapiers. So I write stories with a lot of cloaks and rapiers in 'em, 'cause that's cool. Guys who like military hardware, who think advanced military hardware is cool, are not gonna jump all over my books, because they have other ideas about what's cool.

The novel should be understood as a structure built to accommodate the greatest possible amount of cool stuff.”
