Puppy Update at the Farm!

The puppies are six weeks old now and so stinkin' cute!Ìý

Moony has been chosen by his new family! He will be living with a wonderful family outside of Buffalo, NY!

There are five remaining puppies. One puppy, "Pigwidgeon" has been placed on hold until next week to allow the family time to get into town and see him. The remaining four are still available and welcome visitors!

This is Hedwig! She's a beautiful sweet-tempered curly blonde female who should darken up to a golden-over-cream tone. Her darker ears give us a clue about that!Ìý

And here's Winky! She's a gorgeous sable-and-white female, showing waves... and a sure-of-herself personality. She's absolutely beautiful!Ìý

And the remaining three boys!

This is Sirius.... he's a gorgeous black-and-white doodle with waves and he's already sure that he's a dog... He's got a total dog-like personality and when he sits so solidly and stoically he wins our hearts!!

ÌýUPDATE: "Pig" is on hold until next Tuesday pending a customer visit.

Blonde Pigwidgeon is a smoother-coated boy. He's got an easy-going nature and even though he's a big fellow, he doesn't involve himself in the politics of the family. He's a total snuggler who will probably think he should be a lap dog but he's not going to be small so you need a good-sized lap! :)

And this is Dobby! He's the smallest of the boys and he's got an adorably curly dark-brown and white coat. He's gorgeous, friendly and loves people... but then he's a doodle and that's part of why they're so popular. They are people dogs, friendly, goofy, smart and affectionate.Ìý

Puppies will see Dr. Wendel in one week. They are being very well socialized (that's like the understatement of the century around here), they've been dewormed at 2, 3, and 4 weeks, they've being trained inadvertently to not mess their "crate" area...Ìý

Mom is an AKC registered Standard Poodle (brown and white parti-poodle) and Dad is a gorgeous black Goldendoodle (Son of our late Golden Retriever "Mick" and our beautiful chocolate brown standard poodle "Libby"Ìý

Mom: Pretty Primrose aka: "Rosie": Rosie is typically about 45 pounds, smaller than your typical Standard Poodle... Her mom was on the smaller side, too.

Dad: Jeter:Ìý Jeter is gorgeous. He's got his father's Golden Retriever form in a coal black body. He's eleven years old and has had no health issues. He's between 65 and 70 lbs and long-legged. And he's just a big old marshmallow boy.

Mom is Embark screened.

Jeter is 11 years old with no health problems in eleven years.

Price for puppies: $1800.00 Cash or Venmo

A two-hundred dollar ($200.00) non-refundable deposit secures your spot in the picking order.

Call or text Ruthy for a time to come see the puppies or to ask questions: 585 455 1035. If I'm in a meeting and can't get to the phone I'll call you back!Ìý

Thanks for looking!Ìý

And Then There Were Six!

ÌýAKC Registered Standard Poodle "Pretty Primrose" gave birth to six beautiful puppies on Holy Thursday!Ìý

We have four boys and two girls! Puppies are now eighteen days old... their eyes have opened and they are starting to walk instead of crawl which means our lives are about to get even busier!!!!Ìý

Rosie is a "parti" poodle. That simply means she's a white poodle with big splotches of color. Her coloring is chocolate and white....

Dad is our beloved "Jeter" (named for the Yankee captain, yes! Because Ruthy and Farmer Dave are Yankee fans!!!) But we do love all baseball so Boston fans are always welcome here! Jeter is a black Goldendoodle... his parents were both raised by us, our dogs. Mom was a chocolate brown poodle "Libby" and a gorgeous red retriever "Mick" (short for McDreamy.... sigh...)Ìý ;)

Okay, back to the serious business of puppies!Ìý We let the girls give them 'house' names, so you Harry Potter fans will be thrilled to hear them...Ìý

Females: Hedwig! Hedwig is the one on the right....Ìý "Pigwidgeon" is bigger, he's on the left. Notice the darker-toned ears?Ìý

Hedwig is a gorgeous blonde female with tan ears... the tan ears suggest a darker overcoat to come in on these cream-toned puppies!

Winky is the biggest puppy. Also a female, she's a gorgeous sable-and-white Parti-Doodle.Ìý

Two black-and-white Parti-Doodle boys:Ìý Sirius and Moony!

Sirius has a full black back saddle and white legs... and a gorgeous wave already! Moony has the more traditional look of mottled black-and-white, kind of like a Holstein cow. Unlike a Holstein cow, Moony will be happy in the house!Ìý

Then we have Dobby.... Dobby is a touch smaller and already walking.... With a litter of six, there's not usually what we'd call a "runt" but someone has to be the smallest and that's our Dobby! He was born at almost a pound, so not a runt.... he is also sable and white and is totally chill... he likes snuggling already!

And then there's Pig!!!! "Pigwidgeon" of Harry Potter fame, Pig vies with Sirius and Winky for biggest puppy status.... He's a gorgeous blonde/cream right now but with the brown ears so we're excited to see what his mature coloring will be! Pig is the larger puppy on the left.

Pups are 75% Standard Poodle and 25% Golden Retriever. This makes them an F1B doodle. That simply means we crossed a doodle (50/50) with a full Standard Poodle (100%)

Puppies were born in the house and being raised here. They will be vet-checked by Dr. Heidi Wendel of Erie Canal Veterinary Hospital in Spencerport. They will have their initial course of shots from Erie Canal Veterinary. Heidi and her staff have taken care of our pets for over seventeen years. They know us and we know and love them!

Pups are being dewormed at 2, 3 and 4 weeks.

Dad (Jeter) is eleven years old and has had no health problems.

Mom (Rosie) is seventeen months old and has a clear bill of genetic health from Embark.

Price is $1800.00

Non-refundable $200 deposits are being taken now. Pups can be visited in a few weeks time. We don't do early visits because we need Rosie to focus on love and care of her babies.Ìý Picking order will be by order of deposits. If, however, you are the last person and you don't care for the final puppy choice, your deposit will be refunded and we will re-post that puppy. We want people to love their new family member and we know that's important to you and the puppy!!!Ìý

Feel free to callÌý or text Ruthy with any questions. Phone if 585 455 1035.

Puppies will be available to go to their new homes by May 23rd, Memorial Day Weekend.

Puppies are Growing!

ÌýGood morning, and welcome to the farm!

Puppies are growing... and growing... and growing! We are so pleased to see them develop into such fun little creatures. They look like puppies now, standing, running, walking, sitting, yipping and eating real food...

And wrestling!Ìý

The array of colors for these beautiful Golden Doodles is beautiful, from cream to gold to red to brown to black.Ìý

Teddy and Brownie/Billie Holliday have been chosen and there are a couple of folks coming this week, but there are still several beautiful puppies available.

This is "Big Dan", gorgeous red/gold distinct waves showing, gentle, laid-back personality. He looks like he's got the wisdom of the world on his mind... shown here with Morgan, one of the farm's smaller dog lovers.

This is "Turtle" named for the candy, not the amphibian! (All puppy names can and probably should be changed, but the farm friends had some fun naming them!) Turtle is a glossy black female with a brilliant white blaze on her chest. She'll have quite the contrast as a full-grown doodle and has distinct waves showing. Like all of our doodles, sweet personality and loves, loves, loves to be held and by your side.Ìý

Introducing COPPER! Named for the beloved story of Tod and Copper (Fox and the Hound), this fellow looks a lot like Big Dan in coloring, except Copper has a blaze of white across his chest (again, a pretty contrast when grown) and Copper has white back feet.... Copper is a born lover, has curls/waves showing and he tends to stay away from his wrestling siblings.

And here we have Lady and "Derek"... Derek earned his name because he looks just like his dad "Jeter", our beautiful black doodle. Jeter was named for Derek Jeter, Ruthy's favorite Yankee of all time and so Derek is "son of Jeter".... :)Ìý And Lady Fatima (born on the feast of Our Lady of Fatima) is snuggled with her brother here....Ìý Derek is a big, laid back puppy with a sweet nature. He's getting waves, not curls and has a glossy coat. They are two of the biggest puppies... Lady's distinctive and unusual coloring prices her at $2000. Her siblings are priced at $1500.

Then we have a Cinnamon, a family favorite! Cinnamon's thick, rich, dark red coat is straighter than the others. He's attentive, always watching, you can sense that he's smart and sizes up situations. Beautiful proportions and his coloring is vibrant. He's often found in someone's arms or on their lap... and his "ruff" around his neck is an added touch. No curl showing, Cinnamon and Dumbledore are straighter-coated Doodles.Ìý

And Dumbledore! Like Cinnamon, Dumbledore has a straighter hair tendency with a silky feel. His coloring is gold over ivory and his sleeker look gives him a more Golden Retriever look... but with the hybrid vigor of being an F1 cross. A gorgeous boy, Dumbledore is a sweetheart puppy with the easy-going nature that makes doodles such beloved pets.Ìý

UPDATE: Dumbledore has been chosen by a family.... Leaving six puppies available. Thank you, sweet family!Ìý

From front "Billie/Brownie" (sold) Dumbledore, Derek, Monty (sold, formerly "Teddy"), Turtle with MacKenzie and Lady by the fence. That's Cinnamon curled up by the feeding dish.Ìý

Call Ruthy's cell phone at 585 455 1035 if you'd like to set up an appointment to see the puppies. She'll fit you in around planting and mum watering and all the stuff that goes along with getting a successful pumpkin farm on its feet in June... with the hard work of Farmer Dave and their hard-working buddies!Ìý

Puppies are priced at $1500 (except for Brownie/Billie who is sold and Lady Fatima, the gorgeous cream-colored female) and will be vet checked at Erie Canal Veterinary, have been dewormed twice and will be again, and will be ready for pick up on July 8th.

We look forward to hearing from you!

Mama with newborn pups four weeks ago.... Maggie is a sweet, easy-going and beautiful red/gold doodle and she's been the best mom.... Well done, Maggie. Well done.Ìý

Blodgett Family Farm is a popular fall destination farm in Western New York, developed by Dave and Ruthy Blodgett. The Blodgett family wanted an affordable and fun destination experience for families, both young and not-so-young. As their farm grows in popularity, Dave and Ruthy re-invest to make it fun, family-oriented and with the help of wonderful family and friends, the farm is filled with fairy houses, a wonderful playground area, a pair of goofy miniature donkeys and the joy of God's love. The fall season kicks off on Labor Day weekend, but there are several Craft Shows and Fun with Fairies events scheduled for this summer: June 26, July 24 and August 21.

Puppy Fever is Growing and So Are The Puppies!

ÌýAll nine pups are doing well!Ìý

We're so excited!!!!!

The puppies are just getting up on their little legs and trying to walk instead of commando creep.... their eyes are opening! They are starting to yip! yip! yip! like dogs instead of puppy whimpers and their baby voices are so cute!Ìý

The puppies have had their first deworming (intestinal worms are a normal part of puppy life) and their second and third will be done before their six week check-up with Dr. Heidi Wendel of Erie Canal Veterinary and Apple Country Veterinary.Ìý

We have three females, very distinctive:

Black with a white blaze, wavyÌý ($1500.00)

Sable brown, curly to wavy, very unusual ($2000.00)

Ivory/cream with gray overtones, also very unusual coloring. ($2000.00)

We have six males, gorgeous boys! All six boys are priced at $1500.00

One dark copper male with dark ears, he should be a dark red dog.

One with distinctive curl tendency already, dark gold with red overtones.

One husky black male with wavy tendency (looks like his daddy did at this age)

One gold with darker overtones, two white rear paws, waves already showing

One sleeker-looking gold, not much curl showing, soft and silky, big boy.

One smaller blonde puppy, white star on forehead, thick waves showing.

We will take individual pictures next week, but we wanted to wait until pups are mobile and eyes open.... Still, here are some sweet group photos!

Feel free to message Ruthy via Facebook (Either through her author page Ruth Logan Herne or her farm page Blodgett Family Farm) or call her cell at 585 455 1035.Ìý

We are delighted to share our good news with all of you!

PUPPIES ARE HERE!

ÌýWe are so excited to announce a safe and happy delivery of nine Golden Doodle puppies on May 13th!Ìý

Maggie was amazingly calm. We spent the morning cuddling and talking about the strength of womanhood (not even kidding, I had six kids, I totally get it!) and when the babies began arriving around 2:30 PM we had a crew of three here to weigh puppies, check umbilical cords and adjust, and then as the happy family grew, several surrogate "Doulas" snuggled firstborn pups to keep them warm while Maggie delivered the last five...

It was and is amazing.

Puppies are six males, three females. Color tones range from cream to black, an amazing array. We will post more pics as puppies grow. Right now we do minimal handling other than once/day bedding change and weigh-in. All puppies are gaining weight... not even first day weight loss, which is normal. Nope. Keeping Maggie calm and her sweet, giving nature seems to be a winning combination for well-fed babies.

We have two puppies that will be priced higher.Ìý

One is chocolate brown or "sable".... Gorgeous female. She will be priced at $2000.00.

The other is a cream female, almost white, a true surprise. She's a throwback to her grandmother on one side and great-grandmother on the paternal side, a beautiful Thistle Rock ivory retriever out of Minnesota. She will also be priced at $2000.00

The price for the other seven gorgeous red, gold and black doodles will be $1500.00.

This pic is from Sunday morning, 5/16... Maggie is so calmly handling her beautiful family. Puppies with full tummies are laying out in sweet "milk comas", a sign of a happy, well-fed and tired baby. :)

$200 non-refundable deposits will be taken in two weeks. We have an interest list started. If you'd like your name on that list, email Ruthy at [email protected] or call her cell phone at 585 455 1035. With the farm opening up and planting season upon us, calling her is the fastest and best way to get your name on the list. Ruthy will contact the people on the list in two weeks in the order in which they've expressed interest. Not all people will want a puppy, of course, but the list is already at eight people... and that was before pups were born.

All pups will be dewormed several times here at the farm. They will be vet-checked by Dr. Heidi Wendel of Erie Canal Animal Hospital the end of June and will be available to go to homes a week after Independence Day. (Apple Country Veterinary is their clinic in Hilton). We have worked with Apple Country and Erie Canal Animal Hospital for over a decade and we're blessed to have three veterinarians that were inspired by the late Dr. Dean Snyder, a man who offered advice on my books, my dogs and the common sense wisdom of being a successful owner and breeder.

As owners of both mom and dad, we are happy to share health histories that we have. Jeter (father) was bred here and his mother (puppies' grandmother) is enjoying old age retirement here on the farm. We love Libby... and her gorgeous chocolate brown coloring finally came through in a puppy. :)

Thanking God for a healthy mama and a beautiful delivery!Ìý

Romance On The Farm!

ÌýAnyone's who's seen Disney's "Bambi" understands spring and "Twitterpation"... well, here on the farm, romance is blooming in the canine world!Ìý

Years ago we bred Golden Retrievers and Goldendoodles. It was a wonderful learning experience, but when the writing contracts began coming in, and there were still cute kids to teach and counsel and play with and laugh with, there was only so much I could handle. We kept one of the beautiful black doodles. We named him Jeter (after my favorite NY Yankee baseball player, of course!) and he's gorgeous. Sweet. Goofy. Lovable! We didn't neuter him because if he was a wonderful dog, I wanted the option to use him as a stud... if that was in the cards. I'm a big believer in keeping options open some of the time! The trick is knowing when to keep them open, right?Ìý

Then two years ago we went to Gap, Pennsylvania to buy Maggie May. She's a gorgeous red/gold Goldendoodle from a very busy breeder in the heart of Amish country.Ìý A breeder who is right now charging over $3000.00 per puppy... which is fine, but we wanted to give folks a chance to have a gorgeous Doodle with an easier price tag.

Maggie's dad is a dark red Standard Poodle. Her mom is a blonde Golden Retriever...Ìý

Jeter's mom is our Libby... a medium brown standard poodle.... and his dad was Mick , "Hearthside's McDreamy" a red over gold Golden Retriever we traveled to Minnesota to get.Ìý

So what color will these sweet puppies be? We have no idea, but we're excited to welcome them to the farm. We are so blessed to live on this fifty-acre spread, a place for kids to run free, for pumpkins and mums to grow, for donkeys to hang out and be cute and for our three dogs... the young couple and the aged grandma dog, Libby... to raise their beautiful puppies.

We have an "interested" list started. If you'd like to be on that list, all I need is your name and email. You can call me at 585 455 1035 OR leave me a comment here. Once the puppies are safely delivered in a couple of weeks, we'll take deposits from folks who are ready... but we're not in a hurry.

We're ready to kind of relax, have a great birthing, and welcome a whole bunch of little Goldendoodles to the planet.

Here are the answers to some questions, and feel free to ask more below:

Price: Asking price for each puppy is $1500.00 cash, Paypal or Venmo.

Size:Ìý Mom and Dad are full-sized dogs. Jeter weighs in around 65 lbs. and Maggie is around 55 pounds. They are tall and beautifully proportioned. Neither one has health issues.

Guarantees: Well, life doesn't come with guarantees, but if your pup suffers from a genetic problem in the first year, we will refund your money and bring the dog back here. All shots and veterinary records must be up to date to validate this guarantee. (Standard of care applies)

Gender preference: We don't know what the mix of boys-to-girls will be, so we can't make promises we can't keep... but the sooner people commit to putting down a deposit after birth, the better chance they have of getting the gender of choice and the color of choice, but with dogs of many colors, we don't know what that will be. They may be black puppies, gold puppies, red puppies, or brown puppies... or some of each. Our crew of puppy lovers will be standing by for that very important phone call in ten days or so, letting them know that it's time to gather and greet these babies as they come into the world!

Health history on our side:ÌýLike a lot of older big dogs, Jeter's father "Mick" developed seizures when he was six-and-a-half years old. He was put on medication (cost about $10/month) and that controlled them. He lived a full life until passing away in 2019 at the age of 12. He was a wonderful boy, a kind and gentle-hearted dog that loved attention. Jeter is much like him in that regard. Seizure disorders like this aren't unusual for big dogs and Goldens in particular. Jeter is seven years old and has had no health problems at all. He has never had a seizure.

Jeter's mother "Libby" developed mammary gland cancer at age seven. The cancer was removed. A small lump returned three years later. That was also surgically removed and Libby is still prancing around the farm, living her best life as a retiree at age 13. We did not opt to do chemo at either time.Ìý

Our Veterinarians: "Apple Country Veterinary Hospital" and "Erie Canal Veterinary Hospital" two local practices staffed by three wonderful and knowledgeable (by the way, that's one of the few words that doesn't lose the "e" before adding the suffix... in case you wanted to know that.) veterinarians, all of who were inspired and influenced by Dr. Dean Snyder, a wonderful man who followed his dreams and passed that inspiration on to the young people who worked for him and with him.

The nice thing about knowing the dog's lineage is that these are our dogs. Our pets. We've raised them and know their temperaments, their idiosyncrasies, their personalities. To us, the main thing about breeding dogs is niceness. Kindness. Affinity for people.

We don't need or want guard dogs. We're a family farm, we have fourteen grandchildren, and I like big, goofy dogs that love unconditionally. A dog's disposition says more to me as a parent and grandparent than physiological tests that may or may not be indicative of what a dog's future might be. That's my personal opinion and I'm fine with other folks wanting or needing different standards.

Give me "Old Yeller" type dogs any day.

While we started this with Golden Retrievers (a breed I love) we moved to Doodles because of the hybrid vigor a first cross brings. The first cross of two purebred dogs lessens the chance of genetic flaws finding a match because it opens the gene pool. The lack of shedding is another nice thing for folks with allergies or those who wear non-farm clothing on a regular basis. :) You know who you are!Ìý

We'll keep you posted here and on Facebook. For now we're praying for a happy, healthy delivery! We'll let you know!Ìý
