Hi!

I write epic fantasy novels, which began with a series of four books, These were, The Three Powers, which began with The Snowmelt River, and continued with The Tower of Bones, The Sword of Feimhin and ended with The Return of the Arinn.

I was lucky enough for my books to have gathered excellent reviews from various sources including the British Fantasy Society and Starburst Magazine, which helped to push them into the top ten bestseller list of epic fantasy novels on amazon.

More recently I began a new epic fantasy trilogy, which began with epic advantures of Eefa and Magio, who are The Twins of Moon, which got great reviews. It was followed by The Sea of Stars, which will soon be competed with publication of the third and final book, t

But few if any epic fantasies appeared to be based on it. So I decided to develop this theme. But I also looked at Native American and Scandanavian legends, as well as inventing ideas of my own to suit my purpose.(less)

Hi Niamh,

I can't ever recall having difficulty finishing a book. Starting one, yes. It suggests you have having some doubts about the story, or its inspiration. Might be an idea to start a new one and then, after a little while working on something new, you may feel a fresh inspiration to return to the book again. This is a very common reaction among writers. Iain M Banks said he wrote or attempted some four books before Wasp Factory was accepted. Then he went back and rewrote one of the previous four and rejigged one that became Consider Phlebas, which was the first of his "Culture" novels. We exchanged books at the stage when he was still writing Look to Windward. I bought Phlebas as a first edition and read it a few years ago and it is still quite ropey compared to his later books, so you can see even today that he was on a learning curve. Most of us went through the same, and perhaps you are too. Don't give up. But park it for a while and take on something new . . .

I hope this helps.

All the best,

Book 3 of The Twins of Moon

I can now reveal for the first time the title of Book 3 - the final title in The Twins of Moon trilogy. The title is "The Lore of Dragons". So, yes, dragons play a major role in it.

I expect the kindle to become available towards the end of summer/ early fall.

Mark Salwowski, who created the cover pics for The Twins of Moon and The Sea of Stars is currently working on a brilliant cover for The Lor Read more of this blog post »

“I think that if Mozart were alive today and decided to become a novelist, he would write humorous fantasy.”
Frank P. Ryan, The Snowmelt River

“different words, there are times when you have to trust to your heart and instinct. I must ask you also to trust your hearts and instincts.”
Frank P. Ryan, The Tower of Bones: The Three Powers Book 2: An Epic Fantasy of Irish Mythology

“Strangest of all are the suggestions that Tír is linked to a sister world, variously known as Geb, Jörd, Gaia â€ or even Terra, a name akin to that of our world, Tír. Manifold are the references to this sister world in the legends of Tír, notably those of the warrior races such as Fir Bolg and Shee. In both traditions the two worlds are spoken of as twins â€ as if worlds like infants, might share a single cosmic birth. Communication and even passage between worlds is said to be possible through Dromenon or the power of the Fáil. This same passage is said to have allowed the seeds of war to be carried from one world to the other, though such history is uncertain and largely denied. Most intriguing is the suggestion that the fates of the two worlds might also be entwined, as is occasionally seen, even dramatically so, in living twins. The implications are unknown, perhaps even unknowable. Yet one is tempted to question if the answers to the afflictions of one world might be discovered in the struggles and tribulations of the other? â€ Ussha De Danaan: last High Architect of Ossierel”

Lovely to meet you too. I've been out of circulation for a while writing two books one after another. And very different books too. I'm a senior doctor and write books about the genome and viruses for non-scientific readers. But the same me writes fantasy and thrillers. Imagine that! I must be crazy -- at the very least unusual. But not so. You wouldn't believe how many doctors and scientists are deeply into the arts.
Take me for instance. I've just finished a 40 page shared paper for the astrobiologists, meanwhile also writing a book called Virusphere, to clue up ordinary folk about the extraordinary new revelations about the true nature and influence of viruses.

Frank Ryan Heck, I don't know if i should be writing here or receiving stuff from other people. A great feeling seeing the first paperback of The Twins of Moon, what you might call a new fairytale, emerge. The cover artwork is really beautiful and the scene evoked heavenly. I can't wait for sufficient of my friends get a hold of it. It's out on kindle, of course, but I'm trying to find ways of getting the paperback with its fabulous full around cover to get from the UK to US, Canada and the land of Oz. To keep abreast of what's going on, do please have a look at or
