Celebrating Books at the Reader/Author Get Together 2023

Books, book discussions, book exchanges, book gifts, book raffle baskets and book signings. Yes, there’s a theme. Lol But the which is hosted by the talented Lori Foster each year is more than just that.

description

I don’t travel much but this event is very important to me, and I enjoy it so much. It’s a great way to interact with readers and meet up with friends. I love that it is a charity event that helps kids with cancer. This year CancerFree KIDS received $36,000 and $2000 for the Animal Adoption Foundation from this event.

description

Lori writes a book each year and much of the proceeds of that book go toward her charity work. Attendees of her event bring raffle baskets that help bring in a large portion of the money that goes to charity. And so many people are generous and creative when putting together the baskets. This year I even won some amazing things! So did my daughter, Denise and my daughter and son-in-law, Domini and Chris.

I sat out in the common area of the hotel for a while to people watch and was visited by other authors and readers who just wanted to chat and enjoy the company. Brian joined me at times, but he was so busy with the boardroom and signings.

description

We had a boardroom with lots of fun things to do throughout the event. Brian Feehan, Nancy Naigle, and I hosted the “Positively Romance! theme in our boardroom and people got to color, take pictures, talk about writing and get fun gifts for participating. The coloring pages were made just for this event and one was “A Day in the Life of Christine Feehan which was drawn by my amazingly talented granddaughter, Shylah Diehl. She also drew "A Day in the Life of Brian Feehan." I’m very proud of her!
I saw so many wonderful people. It was exciting to see old friends and make new friends! I love that so many people who participate in my online community were there!

Brian and I hosted a 1920’s themed murder mystery party on Friday night. I’ll have to post more pictures in my next blog.

Murder Mystery, the 1920s, RAGT23 and a Party!

At the annual this year my son, , and I hosted an after-dinner party. I’ve always loved the 1920s as many of my readers know. I’ve had other 1920s themed parties and I love the costumes. I thought it would be fun to have a murder mystery theater using the 1920s theme and am so excited about how well it went.

We found a local acting troop who specializes in murder mystery theater called . They were so fun! The way they put it on enabled everyone in attendance to have a chance at solving the mystery. It was very interactive and so many people told me they enjoyed it.

The costumes were amazing, and I wanted to share some of the pictures.

Surround Yourself With Joy A Look at My Office

My office has changed throughout the years. Sometimes it was nothing more than my lap or a table. After I wrote Dark Prince and Dorchester Publishing, my first publisher, asked for more in the series, I set up an office in my home up on Cobb Mountain. The room I used had been the baby’s room off our bedroom and I kept a treadmill in it. At the time, there was little money for an office or even a proper computer.

Sadly, in 2015 that house, which I’d raised my children in for so many years, burned in a fire in 2015.

In my home in Mendocino I moved around where I wrote for a bit, but had no designated space. I wrote in my bedroom. I worked for a while out of the den, but I really wanted an office that inspired me, so I asked that we empty out an old storage room that was small but led to a balcony and make that an office.

I love my new office! There are lots of windows, lots of light, a lovely view and so much space. I do share it with Brian, my son, but he has his area and I have mine.

Brian and I found ourselves doing a lot of live interviews in the office so Brian got some cameras, lights and recording equipment and we designated certain areas of the office as media areas.

I wanted to have a beautiful background with things that represented myself and my books. I’ve always loved crystals and of course I love Amur leopards so I got a set of crystal leopards to start my collection. From there I expanded to wolves and other animals that represent my books. I have a lovely tea set that I highlight. Most of my readers know I love tea and I collect tea pots.

My office gives me joy and inspires my imagination. I am happy with the different backgrounds we have for media events that we do online.

A Journey with Dragons

descriptionGetting excited about the release of got me thinking about my own journey with dragons.

I have always loved fantasy, paranormal and romance. I love reading it. I love writing it. When I started writing my I knew this would be more than just vampire stories. In my world vampires were truly evil. Carpathian warriors, immortals of a sort, fought evil, including vampires, but if they didn’t find their lifemate the males could turn vampire. What else was different? All of my Carpathians could shapeshift. They could use the earth and elements to heal themselves or create things, like clothing.

It didn’t take long to introduce psychics, mages, monsters and dragons.

description

And just wait until you see what's in store in !

Because Carpathians could shapeshift, many of them chose the form of dragons. But, like other animals they can shift into, dragons existed on their own. They were rare, but they existed.

In we meet a real dragon that gives over his magic, and form, to a Carpathian warrior named Danutdaxton (Dax).

The series has some Carpathians known as “Dragonseekers. Razvan in , Dominic in , Tatjiana in and the list goes on. Dragons will always be part of this series in some way.

In my real life I’ve always loved dragons and I have some that are crystals and some that are drawings. Most people who know me, know I love them as well as I love wolves and leopards. So, when I learned about 3D printing and got a printer it was a natural thing for me to learn to print dragons.

description

First, let me say that I am not the most technologically knowledgeable person. If you’ve watched any of my Facebook Live events, you know that. Lol

I took the time to teach myself how to use the printers. Although in learning, and even now, I come out with some beautiful but slightly imperfect dragons. Still I love it…most of the time. So, I got another printer and talked to my daughter, Manda, about it and she got one. This was going to be something we could together and talk about. It would be fun.

As time went by, I made more and more dragons, most of which went to charity events. But, when it was suggested that I make some for San Diego Comic Con I realized that I wanted to make unique and exclusive dragons that would be solely mine and that I wanted to create a dragon for each of my characters in the Dark series.

You can imagine my surprise when the 70 dragons I sent to ComicCon sold out in three days!

Since was already selling merchandise for my series and that of my son , I thought it might be fun to sell the dragons there.

description

Each dragon represents a character in one of my Dark series novels. I started with the first four books in the series Dark Prince, Dark Desire, Dark Gold and Dark Magic. Most recently, I created the dragons for all of the tarot-themed books. You can see all of the dragons here on .

I hired two 3D print artists to create print files using my concept ideas for dragons. We started with “Stone Dragons of which there are 3 types Large standing dragons, long dragons and baby dragons. But once I got to Gregori’s book I knew he had to be a “Wolf Dragon so I sent concept ideas to the artists and had those created.

description

and are both from Brazil and are the two artists I worked with to help bring my dragons to 3D printer life. They are amazing and so willing to work with me and answer all my questions.

We are working on Leopard Dragons now and I’m so excited to see them.

I created a lily dragon and peony dragon as well. And of course, Dax would be special since he is merged with a real dragon. And finally, for Dark Hope, we have a very special .

description

Tatijana and Branislava were already ice and fire dragons so I had those created specifically for them. If you look at the Feehan and Co landing page you’ll see some of the special dragons including Tatijana and Branislava.
It was exciting to see the dragons go up on the site. And equally as exciting to see them sell out so fast! I can honestly say that I wasn’t prepared for that, though I was hoping they would be popular.

Now I’m making more and starting to add additional characters. Since will be out in January, I now have included all of the characters from the tarot books- .

I’ll continue to add new dragons/characters every couple of months or so. After the tarot book characters I’ll go back to doing them in chronological order. So the next four books would be Dark Challenge, Dark Fire, Dark Dream (out now) and Dark Legend.

There are 38 stories in that series and by the end of January there will be 12 books that have dragons assigned to the characters.

The great thing about having this hobby is that I can start the print and then go and write for hours at a time. Once they get going it doesn’t consume my time but it still ties in with my imagination and stories. It feels like an extension of the stories and I’m so happy to share that with readers.

I hope people enjoy the dragons. They come with a collector card and a certificate of authenticity. Each one is imprinted with my logo. I make them myself and their design comes from my imagination.

Let me know if you have any questions. I’m always happy to know what interests you!
