We have some big news about VG4, but first, let me also remind everyone that on January 26, the Vampire Girl world opens up to Kindle Worlds. You can check out the page . Look for the hashtags #VGKW and #VampireGirlKindleWorld to stay up to date on the happenings. This means fans of the series can now GET PAID to write their own fan fiction stories in the Vampire Girl world. This is a very special publishing platform Amazon has set up for popular worlds in literature and television. They make a contract with the source authors (in this case us) and with some rules and restrictions you can read about on the site, anyone, anywhere can write fan fiction, get paid, and have it completely above board with the authors of the series.

We love this. We love that our worlds and stories can become the catalyst of creation for other writers. That our characters and adventures can inspire more adventures and stories. So go forth and write. We can’t wait to see the community that can form from this.

This leads me to our next announcement.

And it’s a big one.

Moonlight Prince will be the last book in the Vampire Girl series.

I’ll let that sit with you a moment before explaining.

We originally imagined the series longer. At least seven books, maybe more. We had a lot of different story ideas that we thought would evolve well into an ongoing series, and we shared as much with our fans. But when we write, we have to follow our characters and the stories they want to tell. We have to listen. We have to be flexible. We have to tell the story that needs telling, not the one we thought we were going to tell.

It started to become clear in writing VG3: Silver Flame that we might need to rethink our series plan. But we weren’t clear about what that meant until we began writing Moonlight Prince.

Here’s the thing: this series is our best selling series ever. It would be smarter from a financial perspective to keep it going. And we’re full time authors. This is currently our sole income source. So we have to think like business owners from time to time if we want to keep food on the table.

BUT.

And this is a big BUT.

We will NEVER EVER EVER let the business side of things compromise the integrity of our work and the stories we tell. Even if this means ending a tremendously popular series earlier than we intended. Moonlight Prince is the end of Ari’s story arc. This is a fantasy romance, and the romance is complete with this book. The fantasy quest is also complete. To continue it past this would be for sheer profit and not for the story’s integrity. It would require us to hold back, to sacrifice the epicness of this book so as to save it for another and another book. It would weaken the whole series and your reading experience. We refuse to do that to our readers, to milk a series longer than it should be just for money.

Also, while there are some amazing authors who write long and very interesting series and do a great job at it (and we LOVE reading them!), we are finding that’s not entirely how we write and create. We have a million ideas, don’t get me wrong, but they don’t all fit in the VG world. And it feels inauthentic and forced to try to make them fit, just to keep the world going.

I know some of you will be relieved. You want an ending to the story you start. You want to know it will have a satisfactory conclusion. And we hope you love the ending as much as we do.

I know some of you wanted something different from this series. You wanted it longer. Or you wanted more of each prince and a romance with each of them. Or you wanted something else entirely. For you there is now Kindle World, where you can write or read alternate versions of the Vampire Girl world.

And I know some of you are just sad, because you’ve fallen in love with this world and these characters and don’t want to say goodbye. To you I say� I know how you feel. It’s exactly how we feel. But� books live forever. And we are hoping this world continues to grow, just in different ways.

I won’t say we will never write in this world again. I love Ari and (most of) the princes, and the Fae and Avakiri and Inferna and all of it. I love this world more than I thought, and it’s with a certain bittersweet sadness that I say goodbye to them with this book. So there’s always a chance of coming back. I still have ideas. There are other character stories to play with. Other adventures that could be had. I can make no promises, but neither can I say this is for sure the end. But it is the end of Ari’s story, and it’s a good end. A fitting one. The right one.

You might disagree. But I will have to argue the point that I can only write what the characters tell me to write. No more and no less. If you are getting a different message, then I encourage you to write that story! I can only write my story.

I hope you have fallen in love with this world and these characters like we have.

I hope you have learned and grown and adventured hard with Ari.

I hope she has given you hope on your darkest of days.

I hope you revisit this world over and over and learn new things and imagine new adventures.

And I hope there’s more for VG. WeÌýhope for a tv show or a movie series. We would love to help create a much bigger world for VG to live. That would be a dream come true and a way for all the different stories and ideas we have to come together in a medium that would really work for it. We’ve already written a pilot episode for a VG series, andÌýwe’re raring to go with the right connections. So we’reÌýreally hoping the adventure isn’t over. We’reÌýhoping the adventure just shifts into overdrive. That the fan fiction takes off. That a tv series and movie series follow. That we get to live in this world in different ways for years to come.

But in the end, weÌýhope you see that this decision comes out of great respect for our craft and for you, our reader. We will only ever give you our best. And this ending is our best.

So go grab your copy. Preorder it. Prepare yourself for it. Shit’s about to get real in Inferna and Avakiri and Ari, Fen, Asher, Dean, Kayla, Tavian and everyone else is going to need your support in making it through this.

And know that we have so many other adventures waiting for you. The conclusion of The Nightfall Chronicles with Daughter of Strife. A new secret project that we’ll tell you about when we are allowed to. (Did someone say dragons? What?) We’ll never run out of stories to tell, and we hope you stick around for more of them!

It is December 21, 2016. It isÌýthe first day of winter. Winter Solstice. The shortest day of the year. If 2016 were a book, this would be the climax. The struggle of light verses dark has been escalating all year, and it’s all been building to this one day of darkness. This one day where the darkness wins over the light. Where we have to fight harder to be warm, to see through the shadows. It is one day, and tomorrow the light will prove once again it cannot be contained by the darkness. To everything a season. The darkness gets its season, but so does the light. And in the end, the light always wins. Light creates the balance.

The days will gradually grow longer, as light shines into the dark corners and exposes the rot, the secrets, the lies. But the darkness serves a function. A purpose that cannot be ignored or denied. We need the darkness, not just as contrast for the light� though that’s important–but also for the moment to reflect. In darkness we are forced to face the monsters. We can no longer hide from the shadow self that lurks in us, in our country, in our world.

We’ve seen a lot of darkness this year. In hate crimes and tragedies and the deaths of so many beloved people both publicly and privately. In sickness and hopelessness. In racism and sexism and discrimination against our fellow humans whose lifestyles, race, sexuality, sex or ethnicity are offensive to someone somewhere because they are seen as the ‘otherâ€�. In a politically divided country for those living in the US. Even for those not in the US, what our country is going through right now creates ripples world-wide. In war. In tyranny. In pictures of children covered inÌýblood and soot. We are a part of the global community. State and country lines are arbitrary. We are all part of humanity. We are all connected. What affects one affects all.

Many are scared for their future. Many are shocked at what has transpired this year. Many are grieving.

We are going through the dark night of the soul. As people. As a country. As a world.

And in this darkness, in this winter solstice of our lives, we now have the opportunity to look into the shadows. To see what has been lurking all along. The hate and fear and chaos and division–it was always there. Now the white-washed tombs have been blasted open. Now the rot can be faced with eyes open.

Tonight we have a chance to unflinchingly look at the shadows. To acknowledge them and no longer pretend they don’t exist.

And as our days grow longer once again, as we walk through the winter of our discontent, we have a chance to find the strength that lurks alongside the darkness. We have a chance to embrace our fire. To fan the flames of love and passion and unity. We might have become complacent. We might have settled into ‘good enough.� But no longer is it good enough. No longer will complacency work. We need radical love. Extreme surrender of our fear. A bold embrace of unity.

But how? How do we fight what seems too huge to fight? How do we combat a darkness that feels all encompassing? How do we shake off the shackles of fear that grip us?

Legislation can be changed. Charities can be supported. But what makes the most difference on a global level, on a personal level, on every level, is what we do each day.

Are we bringing light into our world, or darkness? Are we soaking our world in love or in fear?

You are not impotent. You are not insignificant. We are each the hero of our own story. Every book we read that inspires us, is a story about us. We are the kid wizard, the chosen one, the divergent, the savior of our world. Each of us. All of us.

So today, and tomorrow, and every day you greet a new day with life, choose love. Choose light. Choose happiness. Choose joy.

And in choosing those things, you give them back to everyone you meet. Everyone you come in contact with. And that light, happiness, joy� it spreads like wildfire. It’s just as contagious as the hate and discord others are spreading. But it’s more powerful. Because while the darkness gets its moment, its day� light always wins.

Be the light.

Be the change.

So for this new year, for this new day, I wish for you all the things. Write all the words. Make all the art. Sing all the songs. Cry all the tears and let them wash away the dust and atrophy. Dance all the dances. Love fully. Give with joy. LaughÌýwith abandon.

This is your day.

This is your year.

It always has been.

It always will be.

We see the shadows in the darkness. Now it’s time to turn on the light and purify that which no longer serves us.

Also, as those who follow us on Facebook might now, we had some personal issues to handle over the last several months involving some court and custody stuff with our kids. All is well in the KK household. Kids are happy, safe and with us. But it’s been a process that’s taken a lot of time and energy. (And we all got sick after that.) We apologize for the delay!

Ok everyone, it’s on! You have been asking for it, and we are finally doing it! A Vampire Girl Signing Party! I know many of you live all over the world, and would love us to travel to your neck of the woods for a signing. That isn’t possible at this time, but don’t give up hope. In the meantime, we are hosting anyone who would like to join us for a party in our town of Ukiah, California. Just 2 hours north of San Francisco and in the heart of Northern California wine country, we aren’t the only reasons to come check out Mendocino County. The party details are below. This is a free event to attend, but we will have books and swag for sale, and our children will be featuring their art for sale as well. This is a catered event with free food, music, a raffle to benefit the Mendocino County Library, giveaways and more. Come dressed in costume if you’d like–we will be! (We may even do some costume prizes!) There is also the monthly Ukiah Art Walk that night, so you can check out the other artists and vendors of our beautiful little city.

Hello dear readers. Today is Monday, June 13, and we are nearly half way through this month. Many, many, many of you have been wondering why Silver Flame (book 3 of Vampire Girl) isn’t out yet, and when you can expect it to be out and why it isn’t out on preorder.

First, thank you SO MUCH for your excitement about this series. It’s so inspiring and we are a bit awed by how hugely popular Vampire Girl has become in such a short time. WOW! The first book launched in April. Midnight Star, book 2, launched in May, and we are working our tails off to get Silver Flame, book 3, out this month.

We originally hoped for an early June launch. That didn’t happen. Now we are pushing HARD for a late June launch, but we won’t know the date until we are closer to having it ready.

Why the delay? A few reasons.

We did a talking about some of this if you want to check out it. But here’s the quickie explanation. First, we both got really sick. Nearly two weeks of cloudy brain, sinus infection, coughing out our lungs and just feeling pretty miserable. We tried to work through it, but it wasn’t very effective.

Second, we have an awesome opportunity to pitch the VG series to a big tv network, but that meant writing a pilot script and concept very quickly. Will this lead pan out? WeÌýhave no idea. But we didn’t want to take any chances of losing an incredible chance at getting these books made into a television series. We will let you know the MOMENT anything is tangible with this. But we finished the script and concept and are doing final edits on it to send it over. FINGERS CROSSED!

Third,Ìýwe’ve had some personal family court stuff we are in the middle of that has lasted MUCH longer than we thought possible. It’s taken its toll on our time and finances and mental focus. The good news is it’s nearly over. Fingers crossed on that one too.

Also, on the family front, we had a tremendous amount of end of school activities for our three daughters. It seems the older they get, the busier we get with their school events!

And finally, (and this is a biggie) we hit a snag in writing Silver Flame. Namely, the original story we outlined and began writing wasn’t working. At all. Great ideas but it didn’t fit with the character motivations or storyline. It wasn’t the kind of epic story we are committed to providing you, our readers. We knew it would not match the quality of the first two books. ÌýSo, sadly, we had to scrap the entire thing and start over. This really set us back. But it was worth it. Because we would rather delay the launch of a book than publish something that wasn’t up to our standard. We respect you, as our reader, too much to serve up something that isn’t the best we can possibly make it.Ìý

The good news is, we are feeling better, we’ve finished the pilot script, our court stuff is wrapping up, the kids are out of school for the summer and enjoying days of sun and swimming, and we are DEFINITELY on the right track with the new rewrite of Silver Flame. You will get your Vampire Girl fix soon!

We will also be offering a preview of chapter 1 soon, so stay tuned for that!

Why can’t we offer a launch date?

Because we are cutting this to the wire. We are launching the moment it’s edited and ready. This is also why there is no preorder. We’d have to delay launch by a few weeks if we wanted to do a preorder, and we know you want it NOW! Yesterday, even! So we want to get it to you the moment it’s ready. I promise we will announce here, on , and our , the moment we have a launch date.

In the interim, we are going offline for a week or two in order to focus entirely on getting this book done and polished and into your hands. We’llÌýbe scheduling some Facebook posts to keep you all engaged, and we’ll check on those when we return to the land of the interwebs, but it’s time to remove all distractions for a bit and make this happen. We know you want the next book, and we want you to have it. We are so excited about this series, about where it’s going, and about the reader feedback we’ve receieved.

All we ask is that you give us a little more time to get you the best book we can write. Be patient with us, and I promise, you’ll get your Fen and Ari and Asher and Ace soon!
