See the poem my book is named after!

The Sugar Coated Pill Theory

In school we read the greek myths

in church we read the bible.

We learn Plato’s cave story

and we hear about the fable.

“What’s it all mean, we sound with a query?

It’s all part of the sugar coated pill theory.

Humans have a problem thinking about infinity,

and perfectness, goodness, and truth;

that omni stuff too.

The stories, myths and fables

All help life make sense to you.

It’s all part of the sugar coated pill theory

If you have a question or even an answer,

find a pill that helps you see truth.

They are there to help us nothing more.

You might find two or three or four,

that make fixing the light less a chore.

It’s all part of the sugar coated pill theory.

The 9th day of the government shutdown.

Welcome to the 9th day of the government shutdown. These are the impacts. A friend of mine listed a set of merchants her family will no longer be able to patron since her husband was furloughed–Common Market, Wegmans, Dancing Bear, YMCA, Farmers Market, England Acres, Lands End, iTunes, Sheetz, Zappos, Red Cross. This is times every person furloughed. This is why the business community is putting pressure on their bought politicians. It isn’t just demonized federal workers but all the other scientists and engineers that work for big corporations and organizations all no longer able to do their jobs, jobs that in no small part try to keep us in the precarious position of the world’s only superpower. This is all connected. These are the impacts of the government shutdown.

For the 630,000 some residents of DC I urge you to contact your representatives. Those of us who live in DC can’t as we have none with any voting rights. If you can, call or email or text them to let them know how dissatisfied you are about their inability to do a fundamental part of their jobs, passing a budget.

8th day of the government shutdown.

Welcome to the 8th day of the government shutdown. (Should it be 10 by counting the weekend?) It’s also my birthday. What a way to see 41, watching our government fail. Among all the impacts felt by the shutdown, denying the families of 5 dead soldiers death and burial benefits is one of the most disgusting. (Read more: ) We can’t even get this right. I guess some of those professional politicians are trying to fix it. These are the impacts of the shutdown.

Please contact your representative. I would but I live in DC and like the 632,322 other people who live here we pay taxes but don’t have any voting representation. (2012 #s)If you do, contact them and tell them to do their jobs and pass a budget. Then tell them to continue to do their jobs and negotiate about what laws we live under.

7th day of shutdown

Welcome to the 7th day of the government shutdown. Many federal employees are still at home through no fault of their own except for the blame we all share for our voting record. There is no law passed yet that says they will get paid for that time. Some of us in the DOD are back to work but the first 4 days of October are in the same limbo as all the time other federal employees are spending at home. Those DOD employees that are back at work will have to wait see another paycheck past the partial one coming Friday. Even though we are at work we won’t get paid for any of October past the 4th until a budget or CR gets passed. We also passed the 10 day mark of total furlough days this year which means we just lost 8 hours of vacation.

If you are a federal employee at home instead of work I am sorry on one hand. On the other I urge you to take this opportunity to learn a new skill or begin or expand the process of adding to your life an additional income stream. Take the thing you love to do and get better at it. Others will pay you to do that if you are an expert. If the work you do for the federal government is truly the thing you love then I am doubly sorry that you don’t get to do that work now.

Speaking of voting record, I don’t get to vote for a senator or congressional representative who has any voting rights since I live in DC. Please call the person you were able to vote for and tell them to get to work and do one of the basic tasks of their job and pass a budget.

These are the impacts of the shutdown

Welcome to the 6th day of the government shutdown. These are the impacts of the shutdown. I have a friend who was recently furloughed. When she went to file unemployment as directed by her agency she was told her salary information was not in the system. It would have to be entered by an employee of her agency, who had probably been furloughed. On top of that her husband had just moved to take a new job and she is trying to sell her house so she can move and be with him. So her transfer within her agency is delayed by furlough and if she is unlucky enough to miss a mortgage payment the house sale will fail.

These are the impacts of the shutdown. Fifty-three percent of all infants born in the U.S. rely on WIC, according to the National WIC Association and participants in some states have already faced the reality of going without the services. (Read more: ). Cancer patients are not being accepted into clinical trials that might save their lives. (Read more:) Large and small the ripple effects are flowing out from Congress. These are the impacts of the shutdown.

Call your representative and tell them to pass a budget. It’s their job. This is exactly how government, big or small doesn’t work. I would but I live in DC and don’t have any voting representation.

Silly Clown Walks

Silly Clown Walks

My daughters have silly walks

Arms up knees wide smile wider

The gorilla lumbers across the room

Fingers flapping ankles snapping

Smirk fixed cheeks hiding eyes

The younger sprints away

Daddy has a British soul

Checks with the Ministry

And walks like a polite waiter

On the way to work
