#TBT 5 years ago we spoke to Issa Rae and in the conversation she pretty much predicted her HBO show as it is today. (She did not predict the billboards of her that are absolutely EVERYWHERE in LA).
is dope Y'ALL - it’s so LA you should watch it just for that, ep3 is a killer!- and what Issa has done is an incredible achievement. #issarae #awkwardblackgirl

THANK YOU!
I’m out, guys! Thank you all so much for your questions (and comments). Sorry I couldn’t get to every one of them, but I appreciate y’all.
WATCH “Insecure on HBO this Sunday! WOOHOO!
how involved were Solange & Saadiq in the music supervising/consulting? and what went into choosing the right music for each episode?
SUPER involved. Solange provided a bunch of options, scene by scene that she was into, and then me, Melina and Prentice would make choices. Sometimes we’d have our own suggestions for songs.
And Raphael was the composer, so he would submit drafts for the scenes we needed music, then we’d give notes. Some of the songs in our score I wish were full songs.
Working with both of them was AMAZING.
Who are the top peers in the industry that you would want to collaborate with for a tv show/movie?
Ava DuVernay
Ilana Glazer and Abbi Jacobson
Yara Shahidi
If you could say anything to the other awkward black girls out there dealing with their awkward stage what would you say?
I would say EMBRACE. that. shit. Everybody is awkward. You’re not the only one. And it’s never as bad as you think it is.
I saw a woman who looked like you in a culver city target, was that woman you? She was shorter than I imagined you to be.
That could have easily been me. I’m 59 though. Is that short?
Why do things constantly changing?
You gotta change your conjugation bruh.
Hi! I am studying film and want to make documentaries and short films. I was just wondering when you were first starting out what kind of editing software did you use?
Windows Movie Maker is the first editing software I remember ever using. Then iMovie, then Final Cut Pro (7 and above). Learning to edit is the best thing I ever did it made me not have to rely on someone to put my work out there.
