I spent twenty-four years as a police officer in Southern California before having to retire in 2007 for medical reasons. During my tenure, I worked as an undercover narcotics officer, a detective for white collar crime and homicide, the training sergeant for the department, and a trainer for weaponless defense, impact weapons, taser, police knife, and pepperball gun among other roles.

I now live in northern Idaho with my wife, two cats, and a black lab, and I spend my time in the much quieter pursuits of scuba diving, writing, fishing, boating, and taking long walks in the forest.

How do you deal with writer鈥檚 block?

Michael Cover When I hit a bad spot and can't come up with what to write, I take a long walk with my dog in the woods or I get away from the computer and go somewhe鈥辞谤别When I hit a bad spot and can't come up with what to write, I take a long walk with my dog in the woods or I get away from the computer and go somewhere with my wife. This helps me get out of my own head and I just leave it all behind me. Nine times out of ten when I get back, my mind is clear and the writing is much easier.(less)
