A Chaotic, Let-Down Launch Week

When The Band came out last week on April 4, I was so excited! I was and still am very proud of this book. The story, the cover (thanks to Aspire Book Covers), the illustrations (thanks to my incredible wife Juliana; see one of them above!) and I couldn’t wait to share it with everyone.
Well, the universe had other plans. First, some wild storms blew through our area, and lots of people had to deal with flooding from the river. It was a crazy weekend! A farmer’s market got rained out, hurting sales a bit, plus the storms overall meant everyone was understandably very busy and didn’t have much time for book stuff. Thankfully, it seems like most people are okay, despite the shocking flood, but it put a damper on the weekend for sure.

For whatever reason, The Band has been a little difficult to advertise. The story is pretty straightforward and the selling point is there: rock & roll, romance, murder, and beer. What else could you need? But it hasn’t quite clicked with audiences the same way I’d hoped. There’s still time, of course! Which is why I’m discounting the book to 99 cents right now! You can now snap up a Kindle copy less than a dollar. But there’s another reason for this sale
Here’s where things got really disappointing. I did manage to rack up over 20 pre-orders, which was awesome! Lots of people were willing to pay 3.99 to pre-order the book, and that support means so much to me. But Amazon had other plans.
It’s partially my fault because nothing can ever be theirs but basically my file size was too big. They sent the book out, sure, because there was nothing wrong with it. But the size meant they could charge me an $8 delivery fee. For a Kindle book! Needless to say, this ate all of my profits. So from the 20+ pre-orders, I made $0.

Well, if I won’t make money, then I want as many people as possible to read it. That was the goal, anyway. To share the story, not to make money. So The Band is now discounted to 99 cents on Kindle and you can read it!
And If you want a signed copy or a review copy or anything else related to The Band, just send me an email! If you cover the shipping costs, I’ll sell you a signed copy only $15 dollars, instead of the $20 price on Amazon, and I’ll throw in a handwritten note in the front! Just let me know
Thanks so much for all your support. I can’t wait for you to experience The Band. If it wasn’t a little chaotic, it wouldn’t be fitting for such a twisty, unpredictable story. And if it wasn’t a little wild, it wouldn’t be The Band.

Oakville, WV A cover band in Appalachia. A valley covered in fog.
After a couple months touring with a cover band, I knew the end was coming. It wasn’t hard to see. We stayed with strangers and played shows in strange places. Every so often, we found ourselves in a bad spot, but nothing compared to Oakville.
The end was closer than we thought. No matter what, we couldn’t control Johnny. And we could never predict what he’d do next.
