This 15-week course will meet on Thursdays from 7-8 PM starting the Thursday after Labor Day 2025.
The course caps at 20 registrants. Adults only, please.
Course Description: Join author Katie Schuermann in analyzing the creative choices of the literary greats for a better understanding of how to write good fiction. This course will be practical as well as theoretical. Students will be led in a series of writing exercises that imitate and apply the various storytelling techniques observed in time-honored works of published fiction.
Course Learning Objectives: Through observing, identifying, discussing, and imitating the creative choices of the literary greats, students will learn to:
+ recognize and analyze established forms of storytelling in the literary canon.
+ choose and develop a distinct narrative style.
+ create and introduce relatable characters on the page.
+ craft and execute believable points of view and dialogues.
+ understand and compose a consistent writing meter.
