Interviews with Indie Authors: Top Tips from Successful Self-Published Authors, Claire Ridgway & Tim Ridgway a review
I’m a fiend for any book about self-publishing and indie authors and enjoyed this series of interviews with authors who’ve been self-publishing successfully (it’s also nice that have the profits from the book are going to various African charities). It’s always fabulous to read about writers who’ve achieved success due to their own hard work and effort and interesting to find out what they thought was instrumental in said success.
Quite a few different writers in different genres are interviewed here, running the gamut of horror, fantasy, paranormal romance, thriller, romance, erotica and non-fiction. One particularly pertinent question each answers is ‘what has been the most effective thing you’ve done to promote your book, answers of which nearly all mention social media (in various forms) as one of the best ways to promote your work.
There’s inevitably some of the usual ‘traditional publishers can kiss my arse type glee from several of the writers interviewed (somewhat understandably) which is amusing to read but is ultimately (in my opinion) a bit misguided. I’m not one who thinks that legacy publishing is a) dead and b) totally useless (and I’m not just saying that in case I ever get offered a trad deal, mwahahaha).
One small criticism: it would have been great to hear from some UK authors as well. All (bar one) of the writers interviewed are American.
An inspiring read, anyway, and if you buy it, you’ll support a worthy cause. You can buy Interviews with Indie Authors right here.
